I overstayed my student pass by 2 days and was fined 50 sgd + an "in lieu of prosecuting you in court" letter. Is this gonna affect my eligibility to work in SG in the future? Is this even placed on a record?

What are my chances to get into NUS CS and is it worth it as compared to iit?

i applied to nus cs as a backup but judging by how my adv went i wont be getting cs in top 7
here are my_qualifications
jee Mains -99.904 percentile
10th - 97%
12th- cbse (pcm cs)
97.2 ( 100 in maths 100 inchem 99 in phy)
my english teach cut 4 marks in internals, would that really matter

jee adv - most prolly a rank between 1-2k

Also i was heavily involved in MUNs and have won best delegate at harvard mun dubai in a committee that was highly technical among a lot of other such awards

I also do have the regular other ecs, student council, state sports and community hours
do i stand a chance? ive been told only your cbse scores matter and i cant believe english messed it up for me.

NUS BZA vs NTU CS

I received offers from both NUS BZA and NTU CS this year along with scholarships.

NUS BZA with NUS MERIT Scholarship and NTU CS with NANYANG GLOBAL Scholarship. (Difference would be the $8000 travel fund and $500 yearly living allowance)

However, I am unsure of what decision I should go with.

Here are some things I prioritise in uni:
- Campus quality
- Student Exchange opportunities (Planning to go to Europe)
- Quality of education (SU Policy, Quality of lecturers, etc)
- Campus life (Planning to stay in hall)
- Opportunities provided by the university

My worries are that NUS might provide lesser opportunities as compared to NTU in terms of student exchange (which I value a lot) or any overseas opportunities as the competition in NUS would be more difficult. However, I feel that the degree NUS offers would suit me better as I am planning to specialise in the field of data analytics in the future. I also feel that the campus life in NUS would be better as the location of NUS is more central.

I would like to seek some advice on what decision I should make or hear your experiences about the two unis. Thank you!

Unsure about NUS Administration Offer (PLS help)

hi all,

context: abit about me i am a poly kid with a diploma in business. soo i am deciding between NUS Business admin and SMU Business. and thought that i would hop on the nus reddit thread to hopefully gain more insights or information about nus business so that i can make a better informed decision before choosing which uni ultimately suits me the best. so really hope you guys can help me out with my decision making🙏.

  1. ofc both schools are great, but some have mentioned that "in terms of business, SMU is the strongest locally", where some employers have a bit of preference towards them. So i would like to ask to what extend is this true? And if it is is NUS business administration lacking behind alot? or just by a small margin?

  2. im someone who is interested in exchange, so is there a minimum gpa to hit to be able to qualify for exchange? if not knowing nus is very competitive, roughly what is a good gpa range i need to get to stand a chance of getting an opportunity to go for exchange

  3. some have also mentioned that "NUS Business as compared to SMU Business is for people who are more academically inclined" would u say that is true? does NUS place a higher emphasis on exams? (because im abit worried cause im not very good with exams

  4. on average how is the weightage for mods are like in nus and smu (class part, finals, grp proj etc).

  5. abit of a subjective qn, how heavy is the content? is it very hard to understand? Does it touch on many JC topics?

  6. another subjective qn, isit hard to stand out/ score well in nus? esp with NUS being so competitive

  7. lastly, what is the chances one usually get hall? with not much connection

rly hope u guys can help me out🙏 thank u so muchh

Missed NUS deadline, currently holding NTU Computer Engineering offer. Should I accept NTU now and reapply to NUS next year during NS?

Hey everyone, looking for some advice and clarification on how university applications work while serving NS.

My Situation:
• Currently serving NS under SPF, just finished my 10 days confinement period lol.
• I have received a direct admission offer for NTU Computer Engineering, but the acceptance deadline is 25th May.
• My absolute dream school has always been NUS (partly because my dad went there too) for Computer Engineering, but I completely messed up, forgot the deadline, and missed applying to NUS entirely this year.
• I have a Diploma in Electronics and Computer Engineering with a cGPA of 3.61. I managed to get into the directors list for two semesters, and did particularly very well during my internship, receiving the top scorer in that cohort that sem, receiving a graduate award and other awards.

My Dilemma/Questions:

  1. Can I accept NTU now as a backup? If I accept this NTU offer by May 25th, am I allowed to apply to NUS next year while holding the NTU spot? If NUS rejects me next year, will my NTU slot still be safely reserved for me until my ORD?

  2. What are the risks of reapplying? Let’s say the opposite happens and I end up not accepting this offer from NTU by May 25th, Will NTU look unfavorably on me or reject me in the future if turn down this offer?

  3. Does NS help with admission? Does serving NS give any sort of advantage or consideration for NUS Aptitude-Based Admissions (ABA), or is it strictly based on my prior academic grades?

I acknowledge that at the end of the day, NTU is already an amazing uni, and I’d be genuinely happy to go there. I'm just terrified that if I reject NTU now to chase NUS, I might end up getting rejected by both next year.
Would appreciate any insights from seniors who reapplying while in NS! Thanks in advance.

MacOS vs Windows for CS

Hey there! I will be enrolling into NUS CS this coming August, and would like to get a laptop that can last me for the whole degree. I've been seeing many others recommending the Mac, but as someone who has used Windows/Android all my life, I'm a little hesitant. The only winning point of Mac is the battery life and something abt UNIX env.

Can anyone from computing (especially CS) recommend or share their experience deciding their laptop specs, Mac vs Windows, and what are the software/apps CS uses?

For those who will be starting CS as freshmen this Aug, what laptops did yall get?

For Mac, I was looking at buying the M4 Pro 14-inch (24GB RAM) from my brother and for Windows, either the Yoga Slim 7 or the Zenbook S14 (prob at 32GB RAM).

NUS houses

Hello ! I’m an incoming freshmen and I want to apply to accommodation. I’m interested in houses as I dont rlly prefer the non-aircon rooms in hall and beyond that halls also seem like a lot of forced activities? 😭 (Im not very sure ) After checking old posts and the website I am rlly interested in applying to Helix house. Is there any eligibility like how u need cca points for halls. Do u need anything for houses? I understand there is a short para u need to write. What else is like uh required? And also can someone tell me the major diff between helix, lighthouse and pioneer. I saw somewhere pioneer is harder to get in and has tons of interest grp ans valour is very sports oriented. What abt the other two? Any advice is appreciated tysmm!!!

NUS Double Major/Second Major/Double degree programmes under the same faculty

I would like to ask if its possible to take a Double Major/Second Major/Double degree programmes under the same faculty, specifically under the school of computing in NUS.

I want to take a BoC in BAIS and continue my studies in computer science by taking another major/degree under the school of computing, can i ask the seniors if theres any way i can do so?
If there isnt, whats the best thing I can do that qualifies as something similar to a second major/degree for computer science after completing Bais?

Accommodation?

Hi everybody! I’m going to SG for a MSc at faculty of science but I don’t know where should I look for a place to stay. People recommended Clementi but the rental price is a little high there. I don’t mind 30-50 mins commuting on trains to NUS as long as the price is lower and the environment is ok. Could anyone help, please? Thanks a lot!!

NUS international admission decision

Hey! I applied for EE undergrad back in february. I want to ask if any internationals (not in an IB program) have received an offer from NUS, or any news really. I was not called for interviews and it is complete radio silence from the admission team. I have seen some posts of internationals receiving offers as early as march but not much discussion on current waiting students. Are there any internationals who share a similar experience? Any response is appreciated!
