people here recommend the sonicare electric toothbrush, but the amazon reviews seem to say they don't even last a full year

people here say theirs lasted ~15 years which isnt completely useful as the product would have become shitty more recently. what electric toothbrush has lasted you 2-5 years?

why is this subreddit infested with AI?

most of the posts read like ai. is it people using ai to help with phrasing or something else? it is very annoying.

certain subjects in my life are so terrifying to think about that i can't engage with them long enough to ensure my biggest fears don't become reality

often these things aren't even close to life or death, but the feeling of fear in my brain is so strong that it is almost impossible to bring myself to think about these subjects. for example, i can't look at my course history in school because i know that i'm doing horribly in it and i just mentally can't handle looking at it. but of course if i am too afraid to engage with school at all the situation will become what i am most afraid of. there is almost no explanation as to why it is so overwhelming, my parents weren't strict or demeaning.

this happens to me very often with many things. my life is fucked now

in your experience, does using substances like weed or alcohol make it easier to eat

of course any substance counts but i mentioned the two main ones. i might take a trip soon and i am afraid i will have to eat at restaurants. however not many of the foods i can eat overlap with what you can get at restaurants. even when they do, they naturally less familiar versions of those foods which makes it hard to eat them. i struggle with eating enough/at a normal pace in this situation. i also am unpracticed at eating unfamiliar food. i am considering just being slightly intoxicated every time i have to eat at a restaurant so that i'm not operating on a huge calorie deficit the whole time. this may seem intense but it's the only thing i can think of right now

by the texts released it seemed like d4vd decided to murder her pretty quickly and without much thought. could this imply that she wasn't the first person he murdered?

what thought processes or emotions are keeping you in NEEThood?

mine are mostly based on avoidance of insane amounts of shame or dread. because of how much my circumstances fill me with dread, i'm unable to engage with them for long enough to improve them. i'm also so accustomed to this lifestyle that it's become completely automatic. i would say there is also a high amount of executive dysfunction.

i also end up mistakenly trusting others' depictions of non-neet life and how depressing it is, forgetting that the only way to prove it is to see for myself.

but recently my thought process has altered slightly, so in the rest of this post i will try to describe how in case it could help those with similar issues

first, i started seeing life as some sort of game. it seems to make my thought patterns more relevant to my actual life and gives me sudden clarity. when i remind myself to "just play the game", actually beneficial things to do start spawning in my mind and i develop the motivation for them. i believe this is because it gives me a certain emotional detachment, preventing my brain from shutting down at the thought of trying to make improvements, while also preserving my goals. other forms of detachment tend to go hand in hand with forgetting about what i actually want.

i also started to imagine that i am being watched, or that i am about to do something where i will be perceived by a lot of people. it gives me that sense of desperation for improving myself that has been the cause of most, if not all, of my past improvements as a child/teenager.

i also tried to state everything i was avoiding or in denial about explicitly, just so that i can process what they are and so that it can inform my judgement. you develop bad judgement when you aren't allowing yourself proper awareness of your problems.

this one is harder to describe, but i forced myself to stop feeling shame about things like my appearance and general presentation. i have no idea how i actually did this though. i think it has to do with counteracting the avoidance, i stopped hiding from things that i didn't like about myself, therefore i stopped treating those things as 'shameful'. i was able to feel a certain sense of confidence afterward.

finally, i started to see my insignificance. this is also very hard to describe. i stopped holding my impulses and desires in such a high regard, and i stopped taking life personally. this goes hand in hand with seeing life as a game. when you do that, your moment to moment desires start to seem much more worthless. you also have be willing to let your current self die in favor of someone who is slightly different, has different plans, but is more capable. i knew it was working when i started to become afraid of this change and suddenly felt attached to my past self.

during the first two days of these thoughts i saw measurable differences in what i was capable of doing. i also managed to do something that i had been putting off for a year+. i just have to try to stick with it

[20] If you feel like you can't find anyone you relate to dm me and lets talk about it

I'm on a quest to find people who are similar to me that I can get along with, it is surprisingly hard. But in the past I've usually befriended outcasts or people with ASD. I tend to prefer strangeness to normalness in general, so that's what I'm looking for.

I don't have high standards, anyone can dm, we can talk about anything. But I prefer directness over friendliness. I'm unjudgemental by nature and I like music, computers, philosophical things. I develop absurdist humor when you get to know me

I consider life to be a game/experiment so maybe we could play it together for some time

edit: responding to dms tmr

when it comes down to it, i have no urge to engage with people and attempt to get to know them, yet i have a void of social interaction

i suspect the way people come across is just unappealing to me and i haven't had the patience to wait until i see their true selves

its pretty hard to get to know people when its such a chore

maybe i could be less judgemental, but i find it hard to be less disinterested in the moment, regardless of what i know i want

if anyone has found a solution to this let me know

specifically chatbots

theory 1: ai was hyped up so much that it now needs to meet investors' expectations

theory 2 (feels more conspiratorial): they want to make us dependent and unable to think for ourselves

what other factors are there?

i've heard this as a theory, but i wonder if it has been looked into more. it's possible we just have amnesia for their quality before ai, or that they've gotten worse for an unrelated reason

in any case, does anyone have suggestions for replacing classical search engines

i don't even use google or anything, i use brave. they're all generally ineffective
