Enlarging quick release hole on strap?

Recently purchased a new patek strap for my 5296g. Had a lot of difficulty putting it back on despite it being a quick release (unfortunately scratched the lugs). It looks like the cutout for the QR bars is 1 or 2 mm too short to let me depress the bar completely. Has anyone tried enlarging the hole themselves with a utility knife?

Edit: new strap on, old strap on bottom for comparison

Do you guys buy a backup gun - and if so, is it the same gun?

Been shooting trap for a year now. Having lots of fun even though I'm still not very good. Average high teens. Currently shooting a Browning CXT. Getting the itch to buy a new gun as a backup/for friend or family to use if I take them shooting. There is a CXT shot show special with nitride finishing, so it'd be a little different but would still shoot the same in case my current gun malfunctions. Or do I buy something different like a 825? I'm assuming for a newer shooter myself it would make sense to get the same gun so that it shoots the same?

edit: Thank you everyone for the blunt feedback. I agree with you all. Will keep trying to improve with my current gun (I've been trying to find an instructor here for months now without success - Vancouver, Canada). Maybe one day when I'm shooting better I will treat myself to a special one!

New fun strap for my 5296g-001 - Yes/no?

Was at my local dealer to see what straps they had in stock and they had this OEM sailcloth in an off catalog color. Thought it would change my watch from dress watch to casual summer watch. Used AI to superimpose. What do you think? Yes or no?

Does anyone have live pictures of 102 (shiny dark blue) and 235 (shiny dusk blue) straps?

My 5296g-001 came with I believe the navy blue strap (101), but it looks almost black. Looking for something that's still dark for dressy, but more visibly blue. Wondering which of the 2 I should get?

Have been on the "waitlist " for the bb54 blue lagoon at both the boutique and an AD in my city for almost a year now. No call from either. Was browsing my local watch group and one popped up lnib for just under current retail, so I pounced!

Took it home and showed it to my wife. For the first time ever, she actually complimented it saying it was very nice (normally she doesn't care and says I'm wasting money.) Short pause, then asked me if it was a women's watch. I said it's unisex. Yes, a lot of the marketing images were for females, but a lot of men are wearing it. Another pause. Tells me she thinks it's a little too pretty for a man, no? Also, didn't I just buy another watch recently? I ask her candidly, if she actually likes the watch and just wants it for herself? She replies with just a smile. I tell her "Enjoy your new watch dear".

Who do you think it looks better on? 😅
