Elvis Presley donated his yacht to help fund pediatric cancer research and treatment in 1964

On February 14, 1964, Elvis Presley donated his yacht to raise money for the newly created St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Pictured here is Elvis with St. Jude founder and entertainer Danny Thomas in Long Beach, California. St. Jude sold the yacht for anywhere from $60,000 to $75,000 ($646k to $810k in 2026 dollars). Thomas was well known for his connection to celebrities, and enlisted many of them to lend their fame and influence to join his campaign to eradicate pediatric cancer.
