Why do scholars say Matthew conflicts with Paul?

In Matthew 19 Jesus tells the rich man he has to keep the commandments in order to inherit eternal life. Scholars say this contradicts Paul’s teaching of faith alone.

However, in Matthew 22 Jesus tells the Pharisees what the greatest commandments are: ‘love God and love thy neighbour.’

In Romans 13 and Galatians 5 Paul preaches that love fulfils the law which completely harmonises with Matthew.

Why are scholars ignoring this?

How long can I expect my ex church to keep pestering me to come back?

It’s been a couple of months since I left. I’m still getting the odd phone call and text from either members or elders presumably to convince me to come back. The attempts are somewhat half-hearted.

I answered the first texts to be polite but it seems like they are not bothered about respecting my decision to go separate ways and have reverted to stalkerish attempts to bring me back into the fold. I’m presuming this is normal and will die off in due course if ignored long enough?

EDIT: my pastor was the first person I told in writing that I was leaving the church and I gave him my reasons.

Why didn’t the gospel writers have Jesus preach his atonement sacrifice?

If the gospels were written after Paul’s theology of Jesus’ death as a substitution atonement was developed, why did they not make Jesus explicitly say this?

What is the Cringiest thing you’ve encountered on public transport?

For example, I saw a young man interrupt a man ‘harrassing’ a woman on the tube. Turned out the ‘harrassing man’ was the woman’s husband. He was not happy.

Another time a passenger sitting opposite me on the tube took off his socks and shoes and was picking his toes. In the middle of rush hour!!

And another time I was standing in a packed bus near the driver when I felt someone grope me. Thinking it was just an accident, I ignored it only for this little man next to me do it again. I shoved his hand away. Unbelievable. I’m a guy.

Why are you a screenwriter and not a novelist?

More freedom is allowed in novel writing but for me too much freedom means lack of direction. I am so free to write however I want that I don’t know how I should be writing and whatever I write I don’t like. So I tried screenwriting which has more rigid rules. Trouble is, my stories aren’t really film material as they are very internal.

I love Adrian Lyne films

Watching Flashdance for the first time today. I had no idea it was directed by Adrian Lyne. I’m a huge fan of Jacob’s Ladder and Fatal Attraction.

What I like about his movies is the high concept entertainment mixed with gritty urban reality. You really feel the streets and the time and place. Flashdance IS the eighties. Despite having never seen it prior, I know all the songs because they were the backdrop to growing up in the eighties and they are FANTASTIC.

His films feel real and lived in and genuine. Which is why on a Friday night I am watching a 1983 film rather than a contemporary film that doesn’t have that genuineness.

What crazy thing have you seen at work that DIDN’T result in dismissal?

For example, at my workplace we have a manager who is successfully making people sick, leave and in one case DIE. She even read a eulogy at this person’s funeral which is a joke because the deceased (who was my team leader) told me she was bullying him.

Several complaints have been made about her to which absolutely NOTHING is done. She doesn’t help around the office, she simply causes destruction and will probably be promoted vey soon.

It’s absolutely insane how this is able to continue but it does. I’m NHS administration for a major London hospital.

Did early Christians really expect Jesus’ return imminently?

BART Ehrman says early Christians expected Jesus’ return imminently. He also says the New Testament was written at least twenty to forty years AFTER Jesus’ death.

Twenty to forty years is not imminent, so why would the NT writers write that they expected his return imminently? Even if the NT was supposed to look like it was set during the actual time, the writers would have known Jesus did not yet return so would contradict their claims of an imminent return.

NHS management don’t really care if you work or not

I have been in nhs 19 years this year and I have recently come to the conclusion that MY CURRENT management do not really care if you work or not.

As long as you don’t bring their reputation into disrepute or cause unnecessary trouble you are good.

I know this because I work in a team where it is openly known that a member of the team does no work and happily lets all their colleagues carry the load. Instead of addressing this or moving person out of the team they are protected as long as they provide mental health notes from the GP.

This then encourages the rest of the team to stop working which I did as an experiment. There are no consequences. Nothing happens. Management do not care.

SDA is part of precisely what it warns you about…

SDA is a pharisaical legalistic cult.

They will quote 1 John 2:3-4 and have you believe this is referring to the ten commandments but 1 John 3:23 tells you what those commandments are: FAITH IN JESUS and LOVE THY NEIGHBOURS. John 13:34 tells you these are NEW COMMANDMENTS. 2 Corinthians 3:6-13 tells you the old commandments (including the 10 written in stone) ARE DONE AWAY WITH.

If you tell an SDA this, they will counter with Revelation 14:12 again telling you it is talking about the Ten Commandments + the Faith in Jesus of 1 John 3:23. But this is INCORRECT. The actual wording IS commandments + Faith OF Jesus.

That means the commandments of 1 John 3:23 (Faith IN Jesus and love thy neighbour) + the faith OF Jesus.

SDA is a multi billion dollar making industry duping its followers with a false doctrine keeping them UNDER THE YOKE OF THE LAW to earn salvation. The very thing Jesus died to set us free from!! See Galatians 5:1.

SDA will throw the usual ‘oh so you’re free to commit murder and adultery’ without understanding that LOVE FULFILLS THE LAW - ALL OF IT. See Romans 13:10 and Galatians 5:14.

They will tell you they keep the 4th commandment out of faith and not for salvation but again this is FALSE as they themselves teach that obedience to the 4th is a test of loyalty when their fictional coming Sunday law is implemented. That is the very definition of salvation by works.

Salvation is gained ONLY THROUGH FAITH IN JESUS. Faith is demonstrated by trusting/RESTING in Jesus and his finished work on the cross NOT observing a specific day - which now is IDOLATRY. Relying on your own works to earn salvation is NOT trusting in Jesus, thus SDA demonstrates it has NO FAITH in Jesus and trusts in its own works for salvation. See Ephesians 2:9.

SDA is a scam with TWO MASTERS: the Bible (God) and EGW false doctrine that contorts the word of God (billion dollar industry). You cannot serve both. See Matthew 6:24.

The main problem with Rocky V

Watched this again last night. Surprisingly, I didn’t find George Washington Duke annoying like I used to. I found him very funny and quite evil in a Mephistolean kind of way.

Anyhoo, the main problem (in a film littered with problems) is that Tommy Gunn was set up as a bit of a victim and didn’t really deserve the beating he got at the end.

He’d had a hard, brutal upbringing, got manipulated by Duke and publicly ridiculed by the press. The poor kid was only 21? He probably needed some serious counselling rather than a pounding from Rocky.

Rocky only agreed to the fight after Tommy whacked Paulie, but let’s face it, Paulie needed a good whacking after what he did to the family.

What do you think?

Sabbath for Gentiles verse…

Can someone quote me a verse clearly and directly commanding gentiles to observe the sabbath please. Not an indirect command like 1 John 2:3 but a direct explicit ‘I command gentiles to observe the sabbath’ verse. Considering the importance of the Sabbath there must be a verse or chapter dedicated to this.

The Rocky v Tommy fight wasn’t really fair…

Tommy Gunn had just fought a professional fight where he beat Union Cane. To then go on to have a street fight with Rocky on the same night must have been exhausting. Rocky would have had the advantage.

SDA doctrine is a works-based doctrine

You will be told ‘we don’t obey the law to be saved, but because we are saved we obey the law.’ This is a falsehood because SDA doctrine also tells you that sabbath observance is the outward seal of God which protects you from the eventual wrath of God. This is also a lie because it is the Holy Spirit that seals us (See Eph 1:13). Thus sabbath observance is 100% a salvation issue for Sda’s.

To truly trust in Jesus you would rely on his finished works on the cross. You yourself have no work to do. You cannot earn your salvation. But Sda’s don’t trust in Jesus’ finished work. They rely on their own work for ultimate salvation.

You will be quoted 1 John 2:3-4 about he who claims to know Jesus but doesn’t obey his commandants is a liar but they will NEVER quote you 1 John 3:23 which defines exactly what those commandments are: FAITH IN JESUS and LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR.

Thus SDA doctrine does not have faith in Jesus because it relies on sabbath observance for salvation.

The new commandments

John 13:34
King James Version
34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

John 14:15
King James Version
15 If ye love me, keep my commandments

John 15:10-12
King James Version
10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.
11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

John 15:17
King James Version
17 These things I command you, that ye love one another.

1 John 2:3-4
King James Version
3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him

1 John 3:23
King James Version
23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.

Note: the new commandment is not for us to observe the old ones. It wouldn’t be new otherwise.

Beware being approached by Discord false doctrine peddlers.

Names are 3rd ANGEL and ITS ADVENTAGEOUS

I have spent over a year on these sites studying their admittedly seductive doctrines. They offer you nicely packaged answers to all the questions regarding prophecy and biblical revelation. You will think you will know it all. It is highly intoxicating and extremely dangerous.

They are seventh day Adventists ( an elitist cult) peddling toxic false doctrines. These are modern day Pharisees and legalists that will tell you you need to observe the sabbath Saturday (4th commandment) to be saved.

They do not understand the concept that FAITH IN JESUS and LOVE OF NEIGHBOUR FULFILLS THE LAW because they have no faith nor love in them hence why they need to prove their love through WORKS.

See 1 John 2:3-4 AND 1 John 3:23

1 John 2:3-4
King James Version
3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him

1 John 3:23
King James Version
23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
