What faction in the Dance do you think to be more legitimate?

Rhaenyra and an disinherited Daemon married, or Aegon (son of Baelon brother of Vizzy and Daemon T) declared heir by Viserys following "heir for a day"?

And why?

Is this the first time we see...

the Empire launching a war of agression?

It's also the first time in the war where I think, that the Empire is at the wrong side of history.

How to deal with illogical things and inconsistencies in ASOIAF?

George RR Martin for all that he is a fantastic author often really seems to struggle with logic in terms of world building (Dothraki, Ironborne, size/age in general etc...).

As a fan(fic author) you have basically two ways to deal with that:

a) accept the illogical

b) find logic in the illogical and come up with your own headcannons to make things work (including ignoring some parts entirely).

The real issue of that problem comes when you have an outsight perspective (crossover or self insert) that should realise things do/should/can not work that way.

So how do you (think should authors) deal with that, esspecialy regarding SI stories and where is the line so to speak?

What is your opinion on the forced appearance of canon children?

What I mean is authors giving non canon pairings canon children.

Like, lets say that there is a fic with a Rhaenyra/Daemon pairing with them having Baela and Rhaena, and/or a Laena/Harwin pairing that has the Strong boys.

First of, I understand why authors do it. The alternative of doing this is the creation of a bunch of OCs, that will constantly be compared to their canon counterparts. One of the big rules of reading fanfiction I learned over the years is that, you should not create an OC if there is a canon character that could easily do he same.

(Like I never saw someone creating a OC Maester for Jon if they have access to Sam)

It also is an easy way to get character you like in fics with non canon ships.

The downside is that -to stay with the Strong example- a Jacerys that never struggled with bastard allegations would be slightly to entirely different to canon, something that many don't seem to realise (looking at you Jon Starkgaryen).

It also makes things a bit awkward to read and write if, let's say Baela interacts with Laena in a fic that has Rhaenyra as her mother.

So what do you think about that?

Where are the limits?

When does and doesn't it work and what are examples of it being done great and terrible?

My first fanfic

This is my first ever fanfic I ever wrote (so please be gentle). It is inspired by [this prompt](https://www.reddit.com/r/TheCitadel/s/WOwJorzEN7) by u/silverbullet\_gg

Trigger warning for >!mentioned rape(recovery) and violence!<

From all they ways he ever woke up this one might have been the worse yet. Not only did his head feel like a score of knights decided to have a drunken braw in it, the rough armoured gloves of the Kingsguards at each of his hand didn't make it better.

As he was not so gently dragged through the halls of the Red Keep his mind went back to what has happaned since he was rudely woken up, by the cu nt, better known as Christon Cole. The man himself looked like it took every ounce of discipline he had to stay awake and further to not have woken him up with could steel through his throat.

While they ignored all his question as to "What he fu ck you are doing!", it didn't take someone of great wit and intellect to deduce what his final destination would be.

Truly brother, you can be so petty at times. If his brother send his white shadows to get him that rudely and judging by Coles furry, it didn't took him long to come to the conclusion what must have happaned.

Seems like my nieces couldn't keep her mouth shut over our liddle adventure last night he thought humorouly and with quiet some fondness liddle brat.

Well his brother certainly would be displeased by that and Coles mood also made sense in that light.

Fuc ker probably got chewed out before that for letting her escape. he laughed to himself as that was one of the main reasons why he choose that night to begin with.

His humorous mood was interrupted when they stopped im front of the slowly opening gates to the throne room.

For a moment he had to shut his eyes, due to the morning light that suddenly invaded his eyes. When he opened them again the first thing he saw was his brother standing at the foot of his throne, staring upwards and flanked by two member of the Kingsguard on each side. All of you having the hands on yourr swords? I am flattered thought to himself while looking at their stoney faces.

With a final crack he heared the doors close behind him, afterwards the room was ruled by an opressive silence. Just when he was about to break the quest himself he feared his brother talk.

"What happaned last night?" He asked, still looking up to the throne.

Daemon wanted to retort, that he at least should look him in the face when asking questions, but something gave him pause.

His brother was calm, too calm considering what he probably already knew has happaned last night.

Slowly Daemon began to wet his lips. His brother had asked him a question and not wanting to further anger his him he choose to do something he only very rarely liked to do. Speaking the truth.

"Rhaenyra looked like she could do well with some excitement so I took her in the City. Truly, I don't see what could be that bad about some harmle-"

His explanation was suddenly interrupted by a fist in his face. My brother fist his mind added unhelpful before his head exploded in pain.

"CURSE YOU DAEMON AND THE DAY YOU WERE BORNE!"

He heard his brother shout before another blow struck his nose.

"WHAT DID I DO TO DESERVE A MONSTER SUCH AS YOU AS MY BROTHER?!"

Viserys continued with the cursing all the while throwing new punches at Daemons face. Said prince was currently giving his best amd more to free his arms out of the vice like grips of his kingsguard escorts so he at least could somehow protect his face from the onslaught, but no matter how hard he tried they were unrelenting. Especially his left hand under Coles ministration, who left the impression to wanting to crash his arms to paste.

Daemon meanwhile had started a second fight he was rapidly loosing. The fight to stay contious. His head was already ringing like a bell at a holy day and the black spots in front of his eyes started to multiply and grow.

Suddenly without warning the treatment stopped. Daemon took a moment before he realised it and -under what felt like the greatest exhaustion he ever felt- he managed to look up.

The first thing he saw was one of the shadows holding back his brother bloody and certaiy broke. hand mid strike, all the while talking to him. Even through his head was still ringing he could make out some parts of their conversation.

"How dare..."

"Sworne...protect...yourself. Please...can't...kinslayer....grace."

While he heard the words, his mind couldn't make sense of them.

What...happaning...Viserys...why...own.

Was all he was capable of thinking about. It was at this moment he and his brothers eyes made contact and for the first time since his mother died he felt fear.

What he saw in his brother bloodshot eyes was not anger or even furry, but blank and unmasked hatred, directed directly at him.

It took only a moment, but it felt like an eternity before his brother jerked his head and gave a command he couldn't make out.

Daemon felt the world move again. He didn't know how long they were going or even where, but he could feel it getting colder and colder all the while slipping in and out of consciousness.

Then, as suddenly as it started, their journey ended with him getting uncereremoniously thrown to the floor. The last thing he saw before he fell into darkness was Christon Coles iron foot heading for his face.

When he woke up again the first thing he felt was pain. Pain beyond anything he ever felt amd even that did nlt truly discribe his current situation. His entire face was an entire throbbing bruse and wound, screaming at him. He couldn't breath through his nose and one eye was definitely swollen shut. The other one he desperate squinted shut to escape the harsh light coming from a lamp held by...

It was at that moment Daemon realised he wasn't alone.

"You may leave us Grandmaester"

Came the voice of...of someone that usually made his blood boil, but he currently couldn't place. He tried to ask for the identity but the moment he tried to open his mouth a new sharp and even worse pain erupted over in his jaw only given form by a dull scream coming from his throat.

He tried to get up but this to was made impossible by the restraints at his arm holding him back. He didn't know how long it took, but he was suddenly brought back to reality by the voice from before.

"I would advice my prince (and never before was that title said with less deliverance) to not open your mouth for...well, quiet some time according to the Grand Maester. Your brother certainly was...thorough in your treatment."

The unknown (and he should know but...) person said slowly dimming the lamp.

"I always knew that someday your brother would see you as who you truly are, but this...this beats my grandest imaginations."

The person said slowly walking towards him.

"So what do you have to say in the face of such a feat, prince Daemon?"

And with these words Daemon Targaryen finally crossed eyes with the non so stranger and in his eyes biggest cu nt in all of the seven kingdoms and much beyond, Otto Hightower.

"You might have questions as to what and why has happaned to you. Please let me enlighten you my prince."

It took every bit of sense and restraint Daemon had left not to shout at him. Otto Hightower meanwhile had a small smile play across his lips guessing what was going through his mind.

"Yesterday when you left your niece at the brotheI in Flea Bottom did it ever come to your mind the danger you were leaving her in."

An ice cold feeling that had nothing to do with the dark room he was in spread in his gut. A feeling that got worse when he saw any sign of mirth atill left leaving Hightowers face and voice.

"It didn't, did it. No my prince, it certainly DIDN'T!"

He saw him take a deep breath as to steady himself before continuing.

"Shortly afterwards your niece ran into some unsavoury fellows, who I can assure you currently wish to be in your cooperative comfortable position. I think you my prince can full in the gaps as to what happaned next."

Daemon could and it made him feel sick.

"It was due to the valiant effort of Ser Harwin Strong that "worse" could be prevented and the princess be brought back to the castle alive if not...well."

It was at this moment that Hightower voice started to shift again and Daemon had the feeling that he was no longer talking to him.

"The Queen is taking care of her...but...but the Red Keep already knows and tomorrow the realm will as well. Things will change. Yes they will... This, this will help Aegon... but like this..."

The last words where a mere whisper and when Daemon looked into the Hands unfocused eyes the only thing he could see was a man who tasted victory only for it to feel hollow and had an aftertaste of ash.

With a slight shudder Hightower steadied himself again and continued with a detached almost blank voice.

"When the princess returned to the castle in the arms of Ser Harwin, she was immediately brought to the Grand Maester, who is sure by now that not only will her body recover fully, she will also be able to have children in the future. Her mind on the other hand..."

Otto paused and for a moment his eyes seem to glass over again aa he continued in a small voice.

"I was there you know.... She, She didn't talk for a long time, constantly scared by her shadow and didn't let any man touch her without starting to scream and trash around. Alicent, Allicent finally managed to calm her down enough for us to give her poppy so the Maester could treat her. When she woke up..."

Otto paused and squeezed his eyes shut for a moment before he continued in a more steady voice.

"It took my daughter hours to calm Rhaenyra down so that we may know what happaned. And when we did... Viserys was already taking it bad before, but when he learned of who was responsible... Something died the moment he heared your name Daemon and I don't think it will ever come back."

He looked Daemon deep into they eyes.

"I thought he might have ordered your death then and there and if not for Ser Steffon he would have done so two days ago himself. I don't know what his grace has planned for you, I don't think even he himself knows it of yet, but I can assure you that even while you still have a beating heart, you are already dead to him."

And with this final words Otto Hightower turned around an walked out of the cell, leaving Demon Targaryen in the cold darkness completely alone.

This is my first fanfic I ever wrote for any fandom (and boy did I choose a light topic and no I do not condone rape in any way shape or form and this fic is not a glorification of that happening to Rhaenyra, but a look on what could have very well happened), where were we... ah, yes, first fanfic, so please be gentle with me.

So what do you think? Prose/structure/language and most importantly character.

I tried to keep them both human while showing their bad and good sides.

Especially Otto Hightower who is so easily vilified I tried to still make believable human while keeping up the shemer side of his personality.

The Dance end in reverse.

What I mean is a scenario, in wich Rhaenyra kills Aegon but looses all her children and is stuck in Kings Landing having taken Jahaera and Maelor, while the Green army destroyed the Black one in the field.

What would happen next?

Do great characters deserve great deaths?

Do great characters deserve great deaths?

So you think that a great character like Robb, Tywin or Roddy the Ruin deserve great deaths, as in spectacular and meaningful, or is this just something we have come to agree and expect due to "drama".

Like irl, Richard the Lionheart died in a pointless siege due to a crossbow bolt shot by a nobody, or how Barbarossa drowned in a small river for nothing. Are these deaths less meaningful, because they were not the result of some glorious last stand but "well shite happens"?

Are there even underwhelming ans unpoetic deaths of major characters in Asoiaf?

What do you think?

Viserys&Co coups Rhaenys

So this is a scenario I have been working on.

Broadly speaking I wanted three things to happen.

*Aemon surviving Tarth

*The Great Council happening

*Viserys becoming king

So here is the rough outline

Aemon takes over after Jahaerys dies.

He still holds a great council not to change his heir, but to confirm Rhaenys as his heir an nly child and to assemble the realm to ask their opinion and advise for further centralisation and reform.

Laenor and Rhaenyra are betrothed at a young age to join the lines and further dynastic stability.

Aemon dies some time later due to [plot]

Rhaenys becomes Queen

Years go by, where Corlys and the Velaryons get more and more ambitious, to not say overreaching. Rhaenys is also much more brazen and assertive than Viserys eber was and acts bolder and less peaceseeking.

This (combined with the unease many in the realm still have over a woman ruling) leads to Corlys and Rhaenys getting more and more unpopular and ultimately results in an open war between the Iron Throne and the Triarchy (+ undisclosed sponsors in Essos, that feel uneasy over the Targaryen potentially gaining a foothold east of the Narrow Sea)

Someone else (that shall no be named) has already claimed Vhagar.

Rhaenyra meanwhile gets pregnant with said child bearing a great but completely unconnected similarity to the Captain of the Goldcloaks she the does it again.

The Velaryons are pissed

Rhaenyra things the best way forward is killing Laenor so that an anulmet becomes impossible and the only contrarion to him being the father could not divert from his stance on their relationship.

Do absolutely noones surprise backfires and Rhaenys is pissed beyond believe things get ugly.

[Now comes the important part]

Viserys and (esspecially) Aemma (who is still alive due to them not being pressure to have a male heir) want to protect their daughter the only way they can, by removing Rhaenys and her husband from power while Corlys is fighting in the Stepstones in a palace coup.

They will have the support of many of the lords of the Narrow Sea who feel the brunt of the war, members of Viserys family and people like Otto Hightower (who feels insulted due to being removed from power and also geniunly like Viserys).

[Small snippets in the future]

The coups happens and miraculously doesn't turn into disaster.

Rhaenys steps down (grinding teeth and nails) vowing revenge.

Laena marries Daemon who at this point has his own issues with Viserys.

Timeline wise the coups would happen around 115 AC.

That would be the rough outline of the plot.

So my question are these:

Do you think it is logical?

Do you think the coup can work?

What are the consequences if it works?

...and...

What are problems you can forsee and how would you solve them?
