So obviously it’s confirmed that Pavi wasn’t born right after the cataclysm. So how was this possible. So it wasn’t actually confirmed that korra did die as a result of the cataclysm. I actually think Korra was in suspended animation for years similar to Aang. In order to keep the world from annihilating. The world was so close to total catastrophe that korra decided that she had no choice but to hold up the world for years. So she did it in suspended animation. Obviously she can only last so long in the avatar state. And she did eventually die and reincarnate.
Once she died, the world began to head towards total annihilation. Since korra was no longer keeping the world up. It said in the series description that Pavi had to save her world to prevent the seven havens from collapsing entirely. The narrator also said “Ellora has to be prepared..because long ago..”. This leads me to believe that what was preventing the world from totally collapsing was korra.
When it appeared korra failed. People blamed her. And called her a failure

I mean how is this war helping the United States!? No one but the military industrial complex and billionaires are benefiting from this. The U.S. isn’t gaining geopolitically or economically

She also ignored her father and tenzins warnings about unalaq. She also kept the portals open thinking the world was ready. Then when Kuvira opened a third portal. She decided to keep it open. Never mind this was in the middle of a metropolis and neither spirits and humans liked it.
More than likely this helped contribute to the cataclysm.
Korra never thought of long term consequences. She was a spoiled hothead.
