A friend of mine just dug up a fan track I made in 2010. I totally forgot about it and didn't expect to hear it ever again.
I always loved this track and vividly remember how hearing it for the first time in the game gave me goosebumps.
In 2010, I used to make C64 chiptunes hosted on 8bc.org (now defunct), as well as some game covers/remixes. A lot of it is sadly lost to time. I'm super happy to see my dear friend digging up some of my stuff. She can be a master when it comes to lost media.
I published an asset extractor for Ridge Racer Revolution (1995, PSX) that extracts race tracks, cars, other props and textures
We now have a Colony Wars asset extractor. What are your thoughts on the game?
Colony Wars is one of my favorite PSX games. They somehow nailed the controls, packed in a nice variety of ships and weapons, and gave us a branching campaign with multiple endings. The mission variety is pretty good too, and I find the cutscenes were super impressive for the time.
Imo, the overall ship designs are some of the best in the entire genre. I used to draw them all the time as a kid. I wish I still had some of the drawings to show them. The League ships are definitely way more interesting than the Navy ones with their saucer designs, though.
When I played the English version many years later, I found the original English dub a bit... cheap? I'm German, so I mostly played the German version, and the voice acting actually feels way higher quality. If anyone else here has played the German version, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this.
If you want to mess around with the extractor (exports 3D models, textures, and audio), here's the repo: https://github.com/AcidicVoid/colony-wars-extractor
As much as I love the game, I never played Vengeance or Red Sun. Maybe I should finally play them.
Ridge Racer Revolution in new light
This is made by extracting the race tracks as 3D models and importing them into Blender.
I made a post for the extraction tool here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ridgeracer/comments/1vb5ubs/the_asset_extraction_tool_for_ridge_racer/
