Anyone Else Hate the Signal Buttons?

Anyone Else Hate the Signal Buttons?

I really like the Segway handlebar turn signals — they are bright and super easy to see. But the buttons on the Max G3 are a pain to use. They sit too far away for my thumb to reach comfortably while riding, to the point where I barely want to use the signals anymore.

Has anyone modified theirs to use better buttons, like the GT3S ones? Cheers.

Max G3 acceleration feels jerky

Curious if anyone else has noticed the Max G3 feeling a bit jerky when accelerating? Mine almost feels like it stops accelerating for a split second, then kicks back in again by itself. It kind of makes you rock back and forward while speeding up.

I’ve only just got it, so I’m not sure if it’s me still getting used to the scooter or if I’ve changed a setting without realising. Could just be me, but wondering if anyone else has noticed the same? It's the latest firmware, and I have the TCS off. TIA!

Fence staining with a sprayer – any tips?

Hi everyone, planning to stain about 25m of fence and just wondering if this sprayer will do the job or if it’s more for paint only? Never done it before — do I need to back brush after spraying? Any tips appreciated. Cheers.

Max G3 front suspension too stiff?

Just got my Max G3 and wondering if this is normal - is the front suspension meant to be this stiff?

I like how stable the G3 feels, but on normal bumps and rough patches in the road it barely seems to do anything unless I hit a bigger hole. I don't have a problem with the rear suspensions.

I’m 76kg and have ridden quite a few other scooters, and this honestly feels like one of the stiffest front suspensions I have tried. That said, dual front fork does feel a lot safer than C-type suspensions. What do you guys reckon?

Max G3 range check — does this sound right?

Just bought the Max G3 yesterday and took it out for a ride today. Does this battery usage sound about normal? Did 23km (14 miles) and had 25% battery left.

I'm 76kg (168lbs), riding in Sport mode with max speed unlocked to 45km/h (28mph). Was on full throttle whenever I could, but obviously slowed for curves, pedestrians, traffic lights, downhill sections, etc. Moderate hills along the way. Mostly shared paths so not much stop-start riding.

Regen was switched around depending on the situation (off while cruising, on downhill), and tyre pressure was 48 PSI.

Do Bare Timber Need Staining?

Just had some landscaping done around the yard. Do I need to stain the bare timber parts like the turf edging, raised garden beds, and planter boxes, or will they be fine as is? Just wondering if they will rot out over time. Cheers.

Deck - Stain it or leave it natural?

Planning to rebuild my second-floor deck. The plan is to use Garapa for the decking, steel beams and posts for the structure, and aluminium balustrades.

Just wondering. Should I stain the Garapa, or can I leave the hardwood natural? My previous deck needed staining every two years and honestly it got pretty annoying.

Also, what do people prefer for balustrades — black or white? Cheers.

Thought I was downsizing… then I saw the Max G3 size

Just sold my 60v Klima because it was too heavy, bulky, and a pain to carry around. I wanted something smaller and easier to deal with, and was about to buy the Max G3… then I saw this pic and realised it's actually pretty huge. For reference, the one on the left in the pic is a Xiaomi Pro 2. Now I’m wondering what the point is lol. Any Max G3 owners here — how portable is it really? Does it fit in your car easily or is it still a hassle?

Almost got robbed again while selling on FB Marketplace.

I sell items worth over $1,000 and have had experiences in the past where buyers arranged meetups, then kept changing locations to lure me somewhere else. Years ago, I’m pretty sure they were trying to rob me.

These days their tactics seem more convincing. They use what look like legitimate Facebook accounts, suggest meeting in public places like police stations, show photos of cash in hand, and even provide a phone number. Everything seems normal at first. Then they suddenly change the meetup time to night — that’s when I start getting suspicious. They also like using excuses such as needing the item urgently because it’s their son’s birthday tonight.

Where are actually safe places to meet up in Auckland? A lot of people recommend police stations, but I’m not fully convinced. If someone really plans to rob you, police aren’t standing outside supervising trades, and they don’t have the resources for that. Security cameras also don’t seem that useful if they’re driving stolen cars.

Sometimes I wonder if we were born too early… or maybe at the perfect time.

Right now we’re probably living through the weird transition phase of humanity. We grew up watching the world slowly evolve — from dial-up internet, DVDs, bicycles, and petrol bikes… to AI that can talk like humans, electric dirt bikes, self-driving cars, humanoid robots, and technology that would’ve sounded impossible just 10 years ago.

But imagine being born 20–50 years later.

You might live to 500 years old because AI and medicine finally solve aging. Diseases that kill people today could become as harmless as the flu. People might replace organs like changing phone batteries. AI could end up doing most jobs while humans focus on creativity, entertainment, or maybe just existing. Maybe people will have robot assistants, brain chips, or even upload their minds digitally one day.

Sounds amazing… but also kind of unfair for us.

Most of us today will probably live 70–90 years if we’re lucky. Meanwhile future generations might live for centuries. Imagine meeting someone born in 2300 and they casually mention they lived through multiple eras of society, watched countries disappear, saw Mars become colonised, got married 10 times across 180 years, and have descendants spread across six generations.

But then again… maybe the future won’t actually be better.

Newer generations might have to deal with massive job losses because AI replaces millions of workers. Governments and corporations could end up controlling almost everything through technology. Social media and AI might make people even more isolated and mentally disconnected from each other. Climate disasters caused by all the damage humans have done to Earth could make parts of the planet barely livable. Overpopulation could become a serious issue if humans start living for hundreds of years. Maybe the rich become almost “immortal” while normal people struggle to survive. And eventually AI could become smarter than humans and slowly make humanity less relevant over time.

Imagine future kids asking: “What do you mean people used to drive cars themselves?” “What do you mean humans used to work jobs?” “What do you mean people died of old age?”

At the same time, maybe we’re actually lucky.

We still got to experience a more “human” world before technology completely took over. We rode bicycles instead of relying on apps for everything. We got lost without GPS. People actually had to remember phone numbers. Hanging out with friends meant physically meeting them instead of putting on a VR headset.

Maybe future humans will envy us the same way we romanticise older generations now.

So I’m curious — if you had the choice, would you rather be born later and experience advanced AI, futuristic technology, and possibly living for hundreds of years? Or would you stay in the older era where life was simpler, more natural, and maybe more meaningful?

And do you think humanity’s future will eventually become a utopia… or slowly turn into a dystopian mess?

Do high mileage scooters just become impossible to sell?

Been trying to sell my 2 year old branded scooter with around 2500 miles on it and honestly getting nowhere. Scooter still runs perfectly fine with no issues, but the moment people hear the mileage they lose interest.

I think a lot of buyers are worried about the battery dying too, since it’s pretty common for generic batteries to start degrading badly after a few years.

Got me wondering if high mileage escooters just don’t really have much resale market. Do most people just ride them until they die, sell them super cheap, or part them out instead?

Bought this compact workshop blower after seeing all the good reviews. Used it for a day and ended up returning it.

Honestly, there’s a lot to like — it’s powerful, compact, lightweight, easy to move around and store, and not expensive. It pretty much ticks all the boxes. But man, it’s loud. Like, really loud — to the point you need earmuffs. And it’s not just the volume, it has this high-pitched noise that makes it even worse. The noise rating must be measured from a distance too, because it feels way louder in real use. I also couldn’t shake the feeling the neighbours would get annoyed if I used it outside.

Ended up returning it and spending a bit more on the Ryobi 18V HP Brushless 510 CFM Blower — much happier with it. It’s more powerful and way quieter, and it actually blows leaves off my artificial grass like a proper petrol blower. But yeah, it’s bigger and heavier, so not as handy for small workshop jobs or drying a car.

Summary:

If you want something compact for workshop use or drying a car and don’t mind the noise, the workshop blower is decent and surprisingly powerful for its size.

If you need a 18V blower for the yard — clearing leaves, dust, or small debris — go for the 510 CFM. It’s more powerful, moves a lot more air, and is much quieter, but it is more expensive and noticeably bulkier.

I was originally looking at something like the Segway Max G3, but came across the Apollo Explore 2.0. On paper, it looks like it can compete with the G3, but it’s about 30% cheaper where I live.

Specs are 40 km/h (25 mph), \~1600W peak power, 648Wh battery, IPX6 rating, 10-inch tubeless tyres, steel frame, drum and regen brakes, spring suspensions etc.

I used to avoid Apollo because of the stem snapping issues, but it looks like this version has been updated with a steel frame and also a slightly bigger battery and a lot cheaper than the g3. What do you think?

Are there any reputable scooters with 10" tubeless tyres, under 25kg (55 lbs), capable of over 35 kmh (22 mph), and with a battery larger than 600Wh? I’m not looking for performance scooters, but more compact, portable ones similar to the Segway Max G2. I do like the Segway Max G3, but the battery capacity isn’t quite enough. I don't want to have to charge it everyday and my trip to work is 18km (11 miles) round trip. Budget is under $1500.

A local shop is selling a seated one that actually looks like a pretty good deal on paper—about $750 USD for the specs.

I already have a 40mph scooter, but Im thinking of downsizing to something like this that looks safer and fits within the legal escooter limits (300W and 14inch tyres for non pedal ebike), instead of riding something that’s technically illegal.

Only thing is, I have never heard of the brand. Feels like it might be one of those generic China imports with a bit of rebranding. That said, they offer a 1 year warranty, and both the shop and the scooter have really good reviews, which does give me some confidence.

My other hesitation is… seated scooters look a bit goofy 😅 not sure if I can get over that.

Specs:

Max speed: 35 km/h (22mph)

Charging time: 6–8 hours

Battery: 48V 22.5Ah

Tyres: 14-inch tubed tyres

Motor: 500W peak (300W nominal), brushless

Weight: 26 kg

Front and rear suspensions

I have been riding a 60V scooter capable of ~40mph, and after seeing a number of incident reports here, I have started questioning the underlying safety of these platforms from a design and reliability standpoint.

Unlike motorcycles or cars, escooters operate in a space with minimal formal safety regulation or standardized testing. That means critical components (stem, folding mechanism, suspension linkages, welds) are largely trust-based, and failure often only become visible after real world incidents. A lot of these scooters can go as fast as or even faster than many ebikes or mopeds, but without the same level of stability or safety expectations.

Even with reputable models like my Nami Klima, which has a strong track record, the fundamental design constraints still concern me.

From a dynamics perspective:

  • Rider is in a standing position → elevated center of gravity
  • Short wheelbase + small diameter wheels → reduced stability margin
  • Limited tolerance for surface irregularities at speed

This combination means that relatively minor disturbances - e.g. clipping a kerb, hitting a pothole, or uneven surface transitions - can generate enough pitch moment to result in a face plant before the rider can recover.

On the structural side, recurring failure points reported include:

  • Stem fatigue or sudden failure
  • Suspension failures
  • Parts loosening over time

At over 20mph, any of the above is not a minor incident — it’s a high energy crash.

I enjoy riding escooters and would prefer to stay within this category, but having a family has made me think twice about the risks.

Im starting to look at seated PEV options (larger wheels, lower center of gravity, longer wheelbase) as they seem to offer inherently better stability and potentially more predictable failure modes — even if they’re not “safe” in an absolute sense.

Curious how others here think about this:

  • Do you trust the structural integrity of your scooter long-term?
  • Are these risks acceptable to you, or just something we choose to ignore?
  • Has anyone transitioned to other PEVS for these reasons?

I recently installed a garden fence and swing gate from Bunnings Warehouse and only realised after it was up how much it flexes. The posts are either concreted in or bolted to the driveway, but the aluminium itself is quite soft and thin, so it moves a lot when pushed.

I have read reviews where a toddler even peeled the aluminium skin off the hinge-side post just by standing on the gate, which has me a bit concerned. I can already picture my niece and nephew hopping on the driveway gate, which would easily damage the gate and posts. And to be honest, they will probably do it anyway even if I tell them not to.

Any ideas on how to make it more kid-proof?

Looking to buy a line trimmer for my small 15sqm front lawn. I already have a Ryobi 18V 4Ah battery and an EGO 56V multi-tool power head with a 2.5Ah battery.

Trying to decide between the Ryobi 18V HP Brushless trimmer (with 4Ah battery) or just the EGO line trimmer attachment (skin only). Both are priced the same at $299 NZD. The Ryobi seems like better value, but I’m not sure if the 18V HP brushless has enough power
