Hot take. This version of the Joker rules and actually proves the character works no matter what.

To preface - I have no qualms about how modern joker is depicted, and still prefer it.

But CC Joker is conceptually sick as hell and (in some ways) is the closest we’ve ever seen to Joker in his original form.

He is simply terrifying. No laughing. Not even a smile.

Reread the first comic appearance and yup… it feels pretty accurate. Dude looks absolutely cold, deadpan, toneless - like a frozen mask.

Granted, Joker seems to smile throughout the comic. But you know what I noticed on a reread? It never says he laughs. It says he has a “mask-like” face and eyes filled with anger.

Honestly, reading it now, with the “anger eyes” and “mask” face in mind. I’m pretty sure his face is just frozen in an insane smile with furious eyes, just like his victims.

Also, when you remove the jovial nature, joker suddenly becomes scary as hell. Not just in action, but in philosophy. We spent 2 seasons with gangster villains and rouges crews who all did crime for a reason or a goal. >!>!Then dude comes out of nowhere and tries to destroy Gotham for shits and giggles. Just because he wants to. And he calmly announces it on TV after murdering the entire crew.!<<!

And the Joker venom? Are you kidding? Crazy.

Let’s talk Mendes Beatles. I’d like to hear yalls opinions.

So, the Beatles biopics are underway, and as both a movie fan and a Beatles fan, I’m obviously pretty excited.

There’s very little information about them at the moment, but I’ve been thinking about how this whole thing might actually be structured. As far as I can tell, there are two obvious approaches:

Four movies, each telling roughly the same story from one Beatle’s perspective, beginning to end.

Four movies, each from a different Beatle’s perspective, but also covering a different period in the band’s history.

IMO, the second option sounds more interesting, and honestly, much more likely to succeed.

There’s been a lot of skepticism in film subreddits about whether four Beatles movies can actually work. But this might actually solve one of my biggest problems with music biopics.

They’re often way too overstuffed. They try to cram an artist’s entire life and career into two hours, hit all the famous moments, and move on. The artists end up feeling like caricatures of themselves rather than fully developed human beings.

Four movies gives them room to breathe. You can actually explore each Beatle’s conflicts, relationships, low points, ambitions, and changing feelings about their own fame.

I think a lot of people are expecting four mostly isolated stories, but I suspect these movies are going to be much more connected. Having each Beatle essentially “own” an era of the band makes sense because it also gives audiences a reason to see all four. Each movie becomes a continuation of the last rather than another version of the same story.

So, if that is the structure they’re planning, what order would you put them in?

You could roughly divide the Beatles’ story into:

Quarrymen / Hamburg
Beatlemania
U.S. tours / peak fame
Psychedelic / studio era
Post-psych / rock era
Breakup and aftermath

Obviously you could get much more specific, but you get the gist. My first instinct would be something like:

George: Quarrymen / Hamburg / the early years.

Paul: Beatlemania / touring / hotel rooms / rockstar insanity.

John: Psychedelic / studio era.

Ringo: The final years / breakup / aftermath.

Paul and John felt obvious to me, but I’m realizing that when it comes to the creation and breakup of the band, the story is rarely told from the perspective of George and Ringo. George was basically a kid when the Beatles formed, so that could be interesting. And being that Ringo was the least annoyed at everyone at the end, it’ll be interesting to watch him watch it all fall apart.

But I’m not completely sold on that order!

Who do you think had the most interesting story during each era? Who was the most opinionated or underwent the biggest personal change?

And, most importantly, how would you arrange the four perspectives so that each movie naturally flows into the next?

Just listened to Petal as an outsider…

Did Ariana just essentially flip off her entire fan base and quit?

I wouldn’t call myself a fan. But I certainly wouldn’t call myself a hater. I like a lot of her music, my fiance is full obsessed. So I’ve heard my fair share of pretty much every album. Eternal sunshine is great btw.

But this new album Petal, I found fascinating. I’m sorta listening as an observer more than anything and I gotta be honest, a lot of these songs seem like direct disses towards her more enthusiastic fans.

Kiss Me seems to be written from the perspective of an obsessive fan.

And then from that point it’s just take down after take down.

I’ve held your projections when you’ve felt so insecure.

But I’m not a victim bitch… it’s bye, this time for real.”

“Want to believe that the love I never got is real… but don’t worry cause you’ll keep getting breakup songs.”

(Freak is wild, because it feels like the most straightforward F.U. on the album)

**“**I won’t give you your fantasy this time, no I won’t do what you say, freak.” And there are quotes from people asking more of her.”

“My pain is music to you.”

Overall, just such a wildly different sound, approach and message in this than anything before it. Yall tell me if I’m reading too much into it, because again I’m not a huge fan. But this album really feels like she just lit up her fans and then quit.

Edit since this got some attention: I forgot to include the most obvious example. In the second song, she begins by speaking as if it’s about a single person -

sorry if I made me your type. I hate that I made you love me.

And then on the last chorus, the music drops down (usually done for reveals or twists) and she changes the the perspective -

Is it really my fault you all gave me your hearts of your own accord?

I think this is as specific as she gets for the rest of the album and it’s in the second song, which is essentially an extended intro. To me, that felt like a thesis statement, and everything that follows is as such.

Adding also, I don’t have much context of AGs personal life and so I’m coming from a bit of ignorance. I’m just a music nerd who likes dissecting lyrics.

The purpose of life is to leave the world “better” for the next generation.

People often debate the “purpose of life” but I think when you pull back, it’s pretty simple.

I think every human instinctually strives to this in some way. Though their definition of “better” will vary based on value systems.

It manifests itself in a number of ways - from the altruistic to the selfish. But you can apply this line of thinking to almost anyone in any circumstance.

Reproducing is the easiest example. Humans like animals, generally strive to reproduce. We have our own justification for it, but the base instinct is the same: continuation. But even if an individual doesn’t care to reproduce -

They create art to leave expressions of ideas and history, for the future generations to learn from.

They create profits to strengthen a corporations validity and to create as wide a safety net for their future owners and children.

They create history books to document right from wrong (both philosophically and literally for survival).

They fight for the earth to make it stable for future generations.

They destroy the earth to make future human life more comfortable and easy.

They create currencies and governments to improve the structure of future citizens.

They kill each other to protect future generations from “the other.”

I’m not saying that any of these are well guided or “correct.” But the motivations are fairly consistent, even if an individual doesn’t realize it or believe it. We all know we’re going to die and all of our long term decisions are made to leave an impression on the future and our future generations.

That’s my take.

Great Adventure Refurb

SFGA is my home park. The past year has been dicey. They took down a few of the iconic parts and rides. I was worried and it was looking bleak.

I went near the end of the season last year and was totally disappointed in what I saw.

But I just got back from a recent trip and man you can see they’re actually investing in a solid comeback.

In general, I saw a lot of refurbing and refreshing throughout. Lots of new coats of paint on ride buildings and cars. Nitro got a new coat of paint, as did a lot of the structures in Frontier Adventures.

I also think they’ve really locked into their theming in a way I’ve actually never seen. Adventure Alley is cool, movie town expansion is great (though atp just name it something related to DC). The standouts for me though are Pine Barrens and Boardwalk.

Pine Barrens on opening didn’t make much sense to me, as it was just Jersey Devil. But they expanded it a bit and integrated the water ride. I love how the park embraces local culture / mythology. The boardwalk does the same, invoking Jersey shore aesthetics and tying everything together well.

I think there’s still some work to be done by carnival plaza and the lakefront. And overall, they should make the transition to these lands more clear.

But it seems SFGA has found its aesthetic. A mix of IP, Jersey lore and nostalgia for this 70s-era amusement that it built its foundation on.

They REALLY need to up there merch game though. A lot of generic sariff font hoodies and I stg a lot of this stuff has AI slop on it. The staff also needs some training to be more friendly. Atm they seem to really hate the park-goers. Partly understandable as the crowds were wild when I went. Need to find a solution to overcrowding. Especially if you’re marketing to a place like New York’s metro.

Overall, I’m seeing the investments coming through for this flagship park and I like what I see. I think within the next few years, SFGA could be back on track to its original glory.

How do European countries retain such distinct cultures while in close proximity?

American here. Been to Europe once. Italy and Austria. Having been all over my country, one thing that’s notable is that despite having independent states, there is a constant “American” vibe no matter where you go. From New York to Texas to Montana - these places have their own localisms, but there is still an overwhelming sense that you’re in America.

My question is how does a country like England feel so distinct from a country like France or Spain? Food is a great example. Euro nations seem hellbent on serving as much of their local dishes as possible.

Is there an internal agreement to maintain as much cultural identity as possible? Is this idea overblown or stereotyped? Are there euro-isms that apply across the board?

It’s just mind blowing to me that there can be such a stark difference in lifestyle in the same distance as it takes me to drive from New York to Virginia. Let alone the fact that there are multiple distinct languages with different origins. How is there not way more osmosis?

Edit: adding some clarifiers and another Q based on responses so far. First, I don’t mean any disrespect when I say “hellbent on serving local dishes” lol. When I was in Italy, all I wanted was Italian food. It’s awesome. Same for traditional Austrian food.

Second, a lot of the responses seem to be some form of “they are different countries.” Yes. I understand that. But afaik, the EU has an open border policy, no? Isn’t travel / immigration fairly easy between them? It wouldn’t be the same as me wanting to move to Cuba or Argentina. Again, not trying to be combative. Genuinely curious.

PAs of Reddit, what are are your on set horror stories?

Title! This could be a number of things and can range from funny to horrifying. I’m interested in instances of being treated like dirt, odd requests, department tensions, etc.

I can give a couple of mine to start it off. This was back during COVID when productions were required to have COVID departments on set.

- Approached a director while he was giving instruction to an actor. Asked them to put their masks on. He jammed his pointer finger into my chest and yelled “NEVER interrupt me when I’m speaking to my actors. Fuck off!”

- A COVID inspector came through set. Not enough ppl were wearing masks. They gave the set a citation, producers made us walk around passing out mouthwash for the rest of the day.

- I was crouching near set, AD and Director next to me. AD says “are you good? Am I in your way?” I replied “no you’re all good, don’t worry” they scoff and say “I wasn’t talking to you. Why would I be talking to you.”

Those are a few examples from my past. So let’s hear em! Big and small. Funny and sad. I want to hear the plights of the PA!

Hello!

I’m taking a trip to Morocco next week and bringing the FX3 with me to grab some personal shots around the souks and out in the Sahara.

I know everyone has strong opinions on exposure tools. But I’m not really interested in that. I learned with false color and damn it, that’s what I’ll use on a fun personal trip lol.

I’ve purchased a MagSafe attachment for the camera so I can use the M&C app for exposure monitoring.

And I see that the FC tool on there has an option to switch between SLOG and something else.

My question: is the SLOG3 false color scale accurate? Or should I still expose up to be safe?

Haven’t seen a direct answer on this anywhere and it looks like the IR scale does adapt slightly when switched to SLOG mode.

Just wanted to be extra certain before I ruin a weeks worth of footage lol.

Thanks!

Title.

I’ve got an admittedly outdated DJI Mic V1 (it was free lol) and wondering if it has an auto off function? Couldn’t find a straight answer online.

Like, if the transmitter does not receive signal after a set amount of time, will it just turn off?

I’m not in the habit of just leaving gear turned on for no reason, but curious as a “just in case.”

Thanks!
