Severe tooth/gum pain

History of the tooth - it needed a root canal 15yrs ago and I ignored that. Now it has deep pockets and bad periodontal disease. I was at the dentist a couple of weeks ago and although a previous dentist wanted to remove this particular tooth, my current dentist said if it’s not giving me any grief then no need to remove it. At the least, I know I need metronidazole but I’m in a lot of pain around a back top molar and the pain is travelling up to my temple. Should I go to an urgent care clinic (it’s past 7pm here) or am I ok to wait until tomorrow? I’ve heard horror stories of infection travelling up to the brain etc. I don’t have any other symptoms - no high temperature or anything. When I used an interdental brush between that tooth and others this morning I could smell the infection on it. I know that’s gross but that’s how I know, my gums aren’t bleeding. It’s like the infection is localised to one tooth only.

TIA for any advice

Mining and solar power

I live with an ex underground miner. Amongst many claims he makes he’s alleged that solar power and electric vehicles rely on mining more than ever and that coal mining is less harmful?

Classroom courses - fee free

I am just wondering if being on the disability pension would affect my ability to take advantage of fee free education?

I’m 45 with a background in sales/hospitality, and I really need to take some kind of career change seriously, so that I can eventually go back to work. I’m thinking of the cert 3 in legal studies offered at Southbank campus

I’m hindered by my inability to study online, or solely online I should say. Has anyone got any advice for someone taking their life seriously, late in life?

Study on dsp

I’m curious as to whether I’m allowed to study part time and if so, if Austudy is available to me. I’m not quite a citizen yet so that may have some effect on my ability to study here.

DSP and self employment

I’m just interested to find out if anyone has experience with self employment whilst on the dsp. While I’m aware of the maximum income of $226 a fortnight that isn’t a deterrent for me as my venture involves a lot of research and maximising income is not my key motivation. I understand that more than 29hrs of paid work is cause for review but if I’m self employed and not paying myself a wage how/do they determine whether my earnings are high enough to deem a review necessary.

Being on a pension I’m entitled to selected tertiary courses, is enrolling in a course going to affect my dsp eligibility? I can’t imagine Centrelink would penalise disabled people for attempting to obtain qualifications that might allow them to work in a way that they are capable of. In my case working from home is necessary for comfort and peace and quiet.

TIA for any advice or experience anyone can share.

No appetite whatsoever & my gp visit

Ok so here’s the stats for the record, I’m 45 F, weigh 77kg height 165cm, ex smoker, current vaper and smoker of medical marijuana, other medications include periciazine 10mg, Clonidine 200mg, mirtazapine 30mg.

I visited my GP today because for the last few months I’ve had no appetite. I’m talking forcing myself to eat one meal a day and it’s a small meal. Tbh I drink a lot of soft drink so that is probably filling me up, but I thought the mirtazapine might increase my appetite. It didn’t.

My GP simply asked me if I was feeling nauseas as well as not hungry to which I said no, and he went on to prescribe metaclopromide ffs! (I know a little bit about medications and used to take metaclopromide when I was hungover)

What should I do?

TIA for any assistance

The one product you can’t live without

Hi,

I’m doing a skincare overhaul, I’m wondering what everyone’s products are that they can’t live without. I need a good serum, an exfoliant and a tightening cream

TIA

DSP entitlements

Hi,

I don’t drive and have numerous health appointments to attend, some which I have to catch Ubers to. I’m just wondering if say with dental care I’m eligible for any free work? I phoned one of the free clinics but there was a two year wait and I need an extraction now.

TIA for any help

Psychiatrist recommendations

I’m sorry if this doesn’t belong here, but I’m hoping that I can get a few recommendations because google just produces a lot of Telehealth options and that’s not what I’m looking for. Experience with mood disorders, CPTSD, adhd, would be excellent. Preferably on the Southside, Redlands but will travel anywhere for the right specialist.

Thanks in advance for assistance.

Plate vs Maryland bridge

I have to get an incisor removed today and I can’t afford an implant. I’m just wondering if anyone can tell me the benefits of a plate vs a bridge or vice versa.

How advanced is my gum disease?

Please see attached OPG and findings from periodontal examination. I was diagnosed 10 years ago but have never received deep cleaning under my gums. I am about to commence treatment for this.

How to ensure fair treatment

I have multiple diagnoses, some based on psychiatric assessment as an outpatient, the loose suggestion of BPD based on observation in a hospital setting, and further diagnoses after completing assessments that my psychologist assigned to me.

FWIW, the diagnosis are: Bipolar type 2 (was originally diagnosed as cyclothymia), borderline personality disorder, ADHD, OCD, Dysthymia, MDD as well as CPTSD. Those in caps were diagnosed based on assessments/tests I had to complete.*. Also, I have a history of dependency on benzos and alcohol. Currently I take mirtazapine 30mg, Clonidine 100mg, and periciazine 10mg. I also use medical marijuana to combat back pain.

My GP wants me to see a psychiatrist again due to the fact that I am now on Mirtazapine. I think that’s a bit over the top, I’ve used mirtazapine before, it worked well. The main issue is that the psychiatrist I have seen in the past has misrepresented me in reports, has no respect for me (I’m female and it’s a cultural thing), and last session he cut short at 25 mins still charging me the full amount.

The problem is if i go to a new psychiatrist I will have to pay a lot more for the first visit. My current psychiatrist is experienced with treating some of my alleged illnesses, how do I ensure I get a fair hearing and more clarity on what is wrong with me? I do my own homework and know that BPD is not something i meet the criteria for, but CPTSD i do.

Are the tests that psychologists administer actually reliable enough to determine a diagnosis?

Do you still drink

I’m curious as to how many people are in recovery from meth that still drink alcohol. I have a soft spot for wine but when I drink too much I want to get high to sober up.

5 months clean

5 months clean today and I need some support at the moment. I’m not having too many cravings but I’m haunted by heaps of intrusive thoughts that are reminders of things I did while I was high.

I moved away 6 months ago to get clean and im about to move back to that city. Im confident i can stay away from dealers.

But how do i start my life again!? I dont have to work cos im on a disability benefit, idk what im going to do with myself!
