New music subreddit: originals, recording, mixing, editing, writing, comedy, etc

I just started a new subreddit to help build my community around my YouTube account. I do music: recording, originals, covers, mixing, mastering, stupid comedy ideas that come to me, etc.

I am also starting a massive 6 ep concept project: 6 EPS, 6 different genres. One concept. If that sounds like something you’d enjoy, r/amesaudio could be a cool place ;).

Preview posts?

I just started my channel about a month ago. I just reached 100 subscribers which I was really excited about. But…I had a question:

My longform videos do not get the most reach but my shorts do okay. Any advice would be great.

When it comes to certain videos, I’ll do like a short, hype video like the one I attached here. Do you guys think that’s a good strategy?

I’ve been testing different drum libraries for a big project.

I’ve been testing a bunch of drum libraries for an upcoming, massive project. If anyone is looking for some, I shot 7 of them out against each other in this video.

I used:
GGD One Kit Wonder Metal
GGD One Kit Wonder Brutal
GGD One Kit Wonder Dry and Funky
GGD One Kit Wonder Pop Punk
GGD PV Matt Halpern Signature
GGD One Kit Wonder The Downbeat
Mixwave Sleep Token II

Hopefully this can help some of you that are looking for a new library!

Helping Beginners

I am doing a series of guides for beginners. I started with the basics of compression. What are some other things that new music producers would benefit from learning?

Any advice or clarification would be awesome.

Any advice for me? My long form is getting killed. Like 1-20 views in a week. Next to no impressions we. But my shorts are doing well. Like 1-2k.

5 Non-Neural DSP Amp Sims Shootout

Neural is great but I wanted to check some of the other companies and see what they had to offer.

Guys I recorded some coheed but super low tuned.

I was having some fun so I re-recorded some of my favorite coheed songs in lower tunings. If you guys like that, I’ll post them. It’s been super fun. I LOVE coheed. Been my favorite band since IKS dropped!

So far I’ve recorded:
Delirium Trigger (drop b)
Gravemakers and Gunslingers (drop b)
Sentry the Defiant (E0 on an 8-string)

Compression for Beginners

When I was first starting to explore music production, I found a bunch of great resources but I never found one that just explained things very simply with visual resources. So I made one. Well, I’m making a series of them, but I started with What is Compression, because that was the one that threw me for the biggest loop starting out. I’ll post the link here if you’re interested. If there are any other ones you think I should cover, let me know! I’m a teacher by trade and I love helping people!

Kontakt

If I get kontakt through one of the sites listed here, will it still sync with native without any issues? I don’t want to lose my legit purchases

Question about drum editor

I had a quick question. I’m using Cubase Artist 14. Randomly, my drum editor will just hit every piece of the kit every time I hit play/record. It’s just that one thing hit I can’t figure it out. Anyone have any ideas?

It’s like one big noise and then it plays normal.

Pop Punk Amp Sims Shootout

I’ve been experimenting with different amp sims using the exact same DI, guitar, and settings to see how much the amp itself changes the tone.

I put together a comparison using the same riff through nine different amp sims. It was interesting to hear which ones stayed tight, which had more low-end, and which sat best in a mix.

I was surprised by how different some of them sounded, even with similar settings.

I’d love to know:
Which amp sim do you think sounds best?
Are there any underrated sims I should include in a future comparison?

Here’s the video if you’d like to listen:
