Raisins in the coleslaw: Gross

STOP putting raisins in the coleslaw. Raisins are very sweet and coleslaw is sweet already because of the mayo dressing. (I once ordered coleslaw at Cracker Barrel. They apparently scooped from the bottom, because my coleslaw was absolutely DROWNING in the dressing. It was more dressing than coleslaw. But at least I didn’t find any raisins.) The raisins make the coleslaw even sweeter. The coleslaw is supposed to be a salad, not dessert. It’s supposed to have a tangy taste, not an overly sweet taste. You put raisins in cookies. You don’t put raisins in salad, or coleslaw. Who thought up such abomination as raisins in coleslaw?

Klinger with the floy-floy

For a long time now what Klinger says in “Preventative Medicine”, while waving a little colonel doll and a chicken, nagged at me because it seemed vaguely familiar. Today I suddenly remembered. The “floy-floy” came from the 1930’s novelty swing number “The Flat Foot Floogee with the Floy-Floy”. I heard this growing up because my parents liked it and occasionally played it. It wedged itself into my long term memory and I forgot about it until now. It’s a catchy tune, isn’t it?

“Have you ever seen a Lebanese go up in flames? It’s not pretty.”

“Who put gasoline in my gasoline?”

Once Klinger realized that dressing in women’s clothes wasn’t getting him discharged, he switched tactics. This is probably his funniest attempt to get that discharge.

Buying clothes at different ages

Buying pants at 16: “But Maaaaa! EVERYONE is wearing these!”

Buying pants at 66: “These pants are so comfortable and stretchy, I can take naps and do yoga in these. I’ll take them.”

Why did Gale and Zemeckis think the Dustbuster would be an antique by 2015?

I was still using a Dustbuster in 2015 because it’s a convenient thing to have. (Especially when you have pets.) In fact, I upgraded to a newer model about 3 years ago. And I didn’t get it at an antique store. I bought it at Walmart.

Or was it simply a case of, in the 2015 of Back to the Future, everyone was using super high tech, futuristic versions of the Dustbuster to clean up their little spills, but here’s the original model that’s so old, it’s really a museum piece? Just like what we do with computers now?

So over on Facebook, someone posted something about SPAM, both the canned meat and the email spam, and mentioned that the original SPAM became popular during WWII, presumably because it was a quick source of protein. It reminded me of how SPAM was worked into M*A*S*H episodes. My favorite name drop comes in “None Like It Hot”, in which Potter orders Hawkeye and BJ to get rid of their canvas bathtub. They finally trade it to someone for ice cream for Radar, and as the guy is driving away, he says, “Last war, I could have talked you down to a can of SPAM.” There’s a beat, and then Hawkeye yells out, “And a can of SPAM!” And my favorite appearance of SPAM comes in “Private Charles Lamb”, in which Radar sends the lamb that was supposed to be the Easter entree home to Iowa to be his baby brother, and Hawkeye and Trapper create a new Easter lamb - out of SPAM.

I’ve never eaten SPAM and don’t want to. Anyone here have personal experience with SPAM?
