4TRKmini (pocket music workstation) has a big update with nicer controls

4TRKmini is available for Brick, R36S, k36, raspberry pi and PC, linux and mac!

see 4TRKmini in action: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/aFG6YDPZ-4U

v0.1.98 is up for everything: handhelds (PortMaster / KNULLI / TrimUI Brick), Raspberry Pi, Windows, Linux, macOS.

What's new

  • New controls. Every button does one thing, on every screen. B can't accidentally kick you out of your work anymore.
  • Scale mode. Pick a scale and the piano roll only shows notes in it. Wrong notes are now impossible.
  • Box select. Grab a bunch of notes, then move, transpose, stretch or copy them together.
  • 64-step patterns + piano roll zoom.
  • Oscillator select on the SYN engine: square / saw / sine / triangle.
  • Delay & reverb are sends now. They add to your sound instead of replacing it.
  • Hold X to erase-sweep notes, knobs lock while you edit them, note colours follow pitch.

The new controls

A do / place / confirm
B tap cancel, never leaves your screen
B hold go home
X delete / reset
Y menu (help is in there too)
Start play / stop
Select tap switch synth track
Select hold patterns, undo/redo, save (+Start)
L1 / R1 previous / next screen
L2 / R2 tweak the focused value

Every screen has the full cheat sheet under Y → Controls.

A big Thanks to Goodperson42 for the very helpful feedback.

Demo of 4TRK with live audio recording: Stardust- Music sounds better with you

Just playing around, I'm recording from OBS while recording directly from the macbook mic, at 128 buffer, runs smooth without any pops or clicks due to the native c++ audio engine.

In 4TRK you can also connect multiple midi devices and every Knob is midi learnable!

4TRKmini - pocket music workstation for handhelds released just now!

4TRKmini is a 4-track music workstation built specifically for retro handhelds. It lets you sketch beats on the couch or make songs on the bus. It uses the same workflow as 4TRK, but the interface is completely redesigned around a D-pad and four face buttons.

4TRK - inspired by Amiga and it’s awesome software, still today.

edit I removed the video for now as it had some unwanted distortion and audio issues (based on sample rate I selected and want to re-make it with better musical vibes) If you are curious, just check my channel or profile here to see other videos on 4TRK - thanks for your support guys! Long live Amiga :)

------

nervous to post this (remove it not allowed)

but the app I’m developing is heavily inspired Amiga and also has a feature to rip samples from Amiga pro tracker mods :)

I thought some of you might enjoy ☺️

Sneak peek: 4TRK Development - retro inspired workstation avbl for Linux

Just a sneak peek of the work in progress for those who may be interested in something a bit different or who have seen 4TRK posts before.

Currently have fixed a lot of audio bugs and am adding a hi-res mode, with optional skinned elements.

There are tonnes of themes and it's pretty customizable currently - which is something I always need :)

If you're interested give me a comment, or to find out more check out https://jasonbmusic.itch.io/4trk

Amiga and bigger brother C64 jamming together!

My old setup! Amiga 500 with expansion card running octamed, and a C64 and Cynthcart for realtime synth.

Please don't flame me for painting my A500 lol...It was MINE, nobody else could touch it :)

Now I have taken that setup as inspiration to build my own music software for modern day but with a retro feel - if you want to know more ask or check my profile, I don't want to spam! Hope you enjoy!
