Hello. I was watching a K-drama (Juvenile Justice) and I noticed something. Judge Sim, a woman, was talking about how the victim’s father is now in custody while the perpetrator is now living without a care with his older sister.

The thing is, she used the word 언니 instead of 누나 to refer to the perpetrator’s sister, even though the perpetrator is a male.

Can someone explain why is that? Thank you, I’d appreciate it so I can get back to appreciating 김무열

I’m currently a B1 in French. I’ve relied on a lot of dubbed media so I’m still trying to find French content that is to my taste. I’m just learning from watching French daily life vlogs and simple movies. (I’m brushing up, as I quit a month ago)

However, I’m also learning Korean as I watch a lot of K-dramas and Korean films. I’m still new to it but I’m going fine (Started last month but knew hangul years before as I tried to study Korean last time)

I’m actually learning Chinese at the same time out of necessity due to where I live, but I have little interest in its media nor intend to take a test. I’m very much a bit more laid-back with it due to its difficulty (i’d rather learn slow to memorize better instead of rushing)

I’d like to ensure steady progress and be able to take DELF B2 and TOPIK 3-4 before I head off to university, which is in 2.5 years. I’m just struggling to know which one I should prioritize when I study. I study both everyday, around 30 min, but usually more than that in my free time. I want to know which language to dedicate more resources (and money in case) to.

Hello everyone! (Asked the mods’ permission to post this)

I'm writing a thriller/mystery story that takes place in Japan, in the year 2019. 17 year-old Reiji with no memory of his early childhood, was placed in foster care ever since he was 4, struggles with his grief over his mentally unstable mother's death and his identity from switching houses constantly and in turn, changing his personality to suit his foster parents’ needs. One day, his father Takumi is discharged from the hospital (due to the mother) and takes the amnesiac Reiji back home. No matter how many photos Takumi shows him or food he cooks, Reiji is unable to adjust to his new life. However, Takumi begins to exhibit strange behavior that seems to stem from a traumatic memory involving Reiji, and things take a terrifying turn after Reiji finds evidence of Takumi’s affair. 
 
The names I have are...
Asano Reiji - 浅野 零児 (Son, 17 years old. 18 by the end of the story)
Asano Takumi - 浅野 匠 (Father, 43 years old)
Asano Tomoko - 浅野 智子 (Mother, 38 years old)
Kariya Misaki - 仮屋 美咲 (Takumi’s affair, mid 30s)
Kariya Yuuto - 仮屋 結翔 (Takumi’s illegitimate son, 4-6 y/o)
Tetsuya - 哲也 (Spoiler. Early 50s)

My main question is whether these names are believable and realistic, alongside accurate to their era so that old people don’t have young people names and whatnot. (although in the thriller/mystery world, names do get a bit unique). Basically, I’m hoping they’re not stereotypical/weird like “Gertrude Wizzbobble” hahaha

I picked them all due to their meaning and I can’t explain some due to spoiler reasons, but I’m hoping to keep the Kariya surname and the name Takumi.
