Maul should have been shirtless

Maul for the final fight in Phantom Menace should have been shirtless for a few reasons.

  1. Intimidation: While he is himself an intimidation figure, having no shirt on would make him even more so because it would show how ripped he is as well as his many tattoos. What is more, he’s depicted in the final duel as being almost animalistic and showing off his muscles and tattoos would help play into this.
  2. Maneuverability: Maul relies on speed and violence of action to both over whelm his opponents and to dodge attacks. Having a shirt/tunic on restricts his movement as well as runs the risk of him getting caught on something. You’d think a living weapon like maul wouldn’t run the risk of such things occurring, especially when he finally gets the chance to cross blades with someone of the calibre of Qui Gon Jinn.
  3. Female gaze: Ray Park is ripped and why hide away all that muscle? And if more women go to see Star Wars to see abs, then that’s more ticket sales and thus more profit.

In sum, I feel that Darth Maul should have been shirtless for the final battle in Phantom Menace for greater intimidation and maneuverability.

What do you all think? Do you agree or disagree and why do you feel that way?

Favorite Fighter

Given the recent discussions regarding bombers, it feels only right to allow everyone the chance to say what their favorite fighter is and why.

B-Wing vs K-Wing vs Y-Wing

Due to recent discussions and misunderstandings on this subreddit regarding the stats of the B Wing, K Wing, and Y-Wing, I have decided to list the stats provided on legends pages of Wookiepedia.

B-Wing:
- Crew: Pilot (1)
- Hyperdrive: Class 2
- Sublight max acceleration: 2,390 G
- Consumables: 1 week
- Armament: Light ion cannon (3), heavy laser cannon (1), twin autoblaster (1), 12 proton torpedoes

K-Wing:
- Crew: Pilot (1), Bombardier (1), gunners (2)
- Hyperdrive: N/A
- Sublight max acceleration: 2,700G
- Consumables: 1 Day
- Armament: Medium twin laser cannon turret (1), light quad turbolaser turret (1), 18 hardpoints which often are equipped with concussion missiles, proton torpedoes, plasma torpedoes, & flechette missiles.

Y-Wing (Rebellion variant):
- Crew: Pilot (1), Astromech (1)
- Hyperdrive: Class 1
- Sublight max acceleration: 2700G
- Consumables: 1 Week
- Armament: laser cannon (2), light fuel ion cannon (1), 8 proton torpedoes, proton bombs

K-Wing Mark 2

Specifications:
- Crew: Pilot (1), Turret Gunner (1), Astromech (1)
- Armament: 18 weapon hard points, light turbolaser turret (1), medium range dual laser cannon turret (1)
- Consumables: 3 days
- Drives: Class 2 hyperdrive, SLAM function for bursts of high sublight speed

Strengths:
- beat the tar out of enemies with it’s turbolaser, laser cannon, and variable hardpoint loadout
- heavy shields
- has a class 2 hyperdrive

Weaknesses:
- Slower than many craft when not using SLAM
- Can’t use the turbolaser when the hyperdrive is activated due to power constraints
- Unable to sustain crew for as long as other craft

Background: Due to the realization that the New Republic will never not be at war combined with the growing maintenance and training headaches caused by the notoriously finicky B-Wing, NR high command decided to take a look at giving the K-Wing a hyperdrive to allow it to take on the roles currently held by the B-Wing. To do this, engineers had to shunt power from the turbolaser to the hyperdrive as needed as well as removing the bombardier’s position and putting an astromech slot in its place to help handle hyperspace jumps as well as to take on the roles of bombardier and laser cannon gunner.

Rate my sector fleet

Rate My Sector Force

I’ve been working on putting together my own head canon scalable and highly adaptable force meant to operate at the sector level or to deal with especially problematic systems. It’s expected to deal with everything from humanitarian missions to full scale warfare. I’ve based it roughly off of the US navy’s carrier strike groups.

As for the organization it is:

\- Venator Class SD (1) with 20 e-wing squadrons and 15 Skipray/K-Wing squadrons
\- Majestic class Heavy Cruisers (4), each equipped with 5 E-Wing squadrons
\- Corona Class Frigates (12), each with 3 E-Wing Squadrons
\- Warrior Class Gunships (24)
\-Agave Class Picketships (12), each of which is equipped with a gravity well generator
\- Prowler (3) and Ferret (3) Class Reconnaissance Vessels.

I’d probably use 10-20 of these units based on the strategic value of the sector and how much trouble usually occurs there.

What do you all think?

I had to repost because my original one gave me a bunch of formatting problems

Operation Entebbe/Yonatan

How groundbreaking was Operation Entebbe/Yonatan when compared to other hostage rescue operations of the time until today?

Aes Sedai Training

I’m on my 3rd or so reread of WoT and I started to think about how the Aes Sedai could have revamped their training of novices & accepted and realized they should have treated the Accepted more as Padawan from Star Wars instead of just as novices with a bit more freedom and responsibility. There are a lot of similarities between the Jedi and Aes Sedai, both being militaristic monastic orders that get involved in politics and act as a kind of police force against the big bad guys. Being a Padawan to an Aes Sedai allows the Accepted to get experience in the field before being sent out on their own once they attain the shawl. Much is expected of an Aes Sedai and it’s much better to make mistakes when someone more experienced is there to help you than it would be on your own. It’s like in our own world medical professionals do residency and/or clinical rotations to get experience and on the job learning before being allowed to practice on their own.

What does everyone else think? Is this something that should have been done or is how the Aes Sedai went about things better and why?

Edit: Added “and why”.

I like to watch body cam videos and I’ve noticed that if officers do have a long gun in their car it’s more likely going to be a rifle than a shotgun. Is this representative of real life, and if it is when did the switch from officers getting shotguns to getting rifles occur?

How do troops embarked on amphibious assault ships, such as US Marines who are part of a MEU, keep their skills up while on deployment? I’ve seen pictures of them doing live fire exercises off the side of the ships, but I assume static firing like that doesn’t help keep their skills sharp.
