" Is hypochlorous acid skincare worth it for acne-prone skin? "

"Im skeptical about all the hypochlorous acid hype that's been everywhere for like a year but enough people I trust have switched to it.

I keep hearing that it is gentle, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, won't disrupt the barrier, can be used multiple times a day, doesn't sting, and calms reactive skin. Sounds like a unicorn product when listed like that hahaha.

The skeptic in me wants to know what the trade offs actually are. Does it actually do anything for active breakouts or is it just a calming effect that doesn't change the breakout cycle. Is the typical bottle worth the price or is it mostly water with low active concentration. Does it interact with other actives, specifically layering with an AHA. Is there meaningful difference between brands or is it all the same molecule in different packaging.

Im currently using salicylic plus benzoyl peroxide, mostly works but the irritation around my mouth is real.
