What are the best and worst edh deck themes for beginners/casual play?

My friends and I rarely play magic and often come back to the game after a long, 5 month break from play. Sometimes we come back and watch as somebody struggles to pilot their deck just because they're playing a trigger-heavy deck theme.

From your experience, What are some of the best and worst edh deck themes or wincons for beginners/casual play?

Which cards are "Mass Land Destruction" vs "Land Destruction"?

Extremely casual/nooby player here, a friend joked about leveraging "I run [[Boil]] in my deck btw" as a way to shove a blue player off of counter spelling his commander. As a casual player raised a bunch of questions about the differences between Mass Land Destruction and regular Land Destruction (which for brevity I'll refer to as MLD and LD going forward). I admittedly follow the bracket system a little too closely in deckbuilding and saw that MLD is bracket 4 only. Is LD legal in all brackets below 4 and if so what counts?

I suspect "Destroy all lands" counts as MLD and "Destroy target land" is LD. Which category do these belong in?

  • "Destroy all Islands" [[Boil]], [[Tsunami]]
  • "Destroy all Plains" [[Flashfires]]
  • "Destroy all Forests" [[Acid Rain]]

Lastly, what's the general consensus on MLD and LD? Is it just an unspoken rule to never run it? Is it a valid way to get ahead or is it just too unfriendly/bad for the game?

Why is the CMC the same?

I've been making a Golgari deck and looking into optimizing my card draw options. I found Harmonize and was surprised to see the same effect, without the drawback (no pun intended) with the same CMC.

Is Harmonize just better for no reason or am I tripping up on color identity differences?

Riolu's name was tarnished in them there waters

Trackmania player "Riolu" held many world records but he cheated by slowing the game down (via CheatEngine) to drive tracks with impossibly precise inputs. When confronted with the evidence, he attacked the people who brought it to light before deleting all his socials. He never apologized or acknowledged what he did was wrong and further wronged the Trackmania community by continuing to operate under other aliases years after his original 2021 scandal.

Every time a new Riolu alias comes to light, you can't help but imagine a literal pokemon cheating in a racing game with the demeanor and ego of a sweaty FPS gamer.

I (31M) not sexually active enough for my girlfriend (23F). How can I handle this better?

My girlfriend and I have been living together for 2.5 years. We met online and have a mutual interests in gaming and other nerdy stuff. I have been confident in our relationship all except for one aspect: we're both bisexual and both prefer men. My partner knows this, accepts it, and we are both happily monogamous

.

Our sex life has been rocky, but we make it work. We keep finding ourselves desynchronized, whether it's due to differing sex drive or preferences, I'm not sexually active enough for her.

We've talked many times about expectations and while she says she doesn't want sex every day, she initiates and touches like she does. Our physical activity levels are low and sex often seems like a one-way street in terms of legwork. This leads to me declining often.

While some may question why I would start a relationship with a woman when I'm bisexual leaning towards men, there are factors from where I live, to social pressure, etc. I'm open to advice here. I have always looked at my partner's personality, sense of humor, common interests, and mirrored lifestyle as a perfect match. I followed the advice that looks fade and I think I found someone I could happily spend the rest of my life with.

But I've always wondered if physical attraction is more important for long term relationships than the above wisdom led me to believe.

tl;Dr: I'm a bi man who leans towards men, girlfriend wants sex often, I decline often. What do?

Taryon Darrington's eye color?

Okay, so my friends and I cannot come to an agreement on what color his eyes are. One says Brown, another blue, and another purple. The wiki says blue-green, that description is not what we're talking about. What color is on screen??

Kind of a blue and black or white and gold situation going on

Shaman Earth shield visual should look like sand

Rather than a low-poly earthy turd orbiting the player, it would be cool if Earth Shield was instead a slow, floating ring of sand that coalesces when struck. IdeaTotallyNotStolenFromGaraFromNaruto

It would even be fine if the rocks formed a saturn-style ring around the player and rather than orbit rapidly, just a slow orbit

How good is "good enough"?

This is a silly question to ask because the answer is likely different person to person, so I'm mostly looking for insight here from players who have built many decks over the years.

I'm a casual player and I've spent way more money on singles for commander than I ever anticipated. It's really easy to justify picking up 2-3 cards each week/month in the aim to improve a deck, which adds up over time. When do you set a deck down and say it's "good enough"? I mostly play in bracket 2 and 3, often colliding with decks in both brackets regardless of rule 0 discussions, so putting the brakes on deck upgrades seems far easier given my limited range.

Do others just continuously improve decks until they slowly increment from B2 -> CEDH?

My current conundrum is that I found a B3 Grixis Demon Tribal deck that I'm very fond of. It's consistent, engaging, and has remarkable resilience to removal. I consciously chose to omit a "late game" infinite combo, which others have pointed out to me as a deck-building mistake. To be honest, some sweats at my LCS pressured me into getting a full-proxy B4 deck with dozens of 2-card infinite combos just to be able to hang out when people want to play powerful decks, and it's not my ideal game of magic to "do the thing" to just end a game on turn 6.

How do you personally decide how good is "good enough"?
