Tourist question about the CN line through Calgary

We’ve been up the Calgary tower (very cool btw locals!) and noticed they have moved the 4-line track to the east of the tower before it crosses the Elbow River. In doing so they have taken a straight line and added a kink which seems super sub-optimum for a goods line (image 1) from a straight line (as it still appears on Google maps image 2)

Being nerds, we’re keen to understand why this has been done. Is it a temporary solution? Looks like some development work is ongoing in that part of town but seems a lot of effort to move a track like this.

Can anyone answer this question to settle a debate?

Thanks - a nerdy British tourist

Golby Coastal Automatic Diver

Bought on a whim because I adore the colour way (it has an orange silicon strap too) and I really like wearing this out and about. This week I’ve been in Vancouver and it’s been pride of place on my wrist, even whilst out watch shopping!
Here you see a lighthouse whilst out whale watching to match the lighthouse shaped hands!

Great british independent micro brand making very high quality watch with nice Miyota movements 🥰

Just wanted to share this vibrant little piece with you all! 🧡

Vintage watch shopping Vancouver

Hey folks! I am out in Canada for a few weeks, in Vancouver for a week to start with. Always like vintage watch browsing / shopping. Any locals got any recommendations?

Not wearing anything vintage today, but enjoy my Briths Microbrand Gilby Coastal automatic diver 🧡

My chic Alessi had stopped and I found this Braun watch needing a battery for a hefty £23 on eBay… two new batteries arrived today and both are keeping good time again!

I love the simplicity of the Alessi and raw functionality (whilst stuff being metal and weighty) of the Braun.
Both affordable, both very cool (I think at least) and both back up and running for just a few pounds!

Fun fact: the Alessi watch features in the Nation Design Museum in London (albeit with a red leather strap).

Ok, so it’s not on quite on my wrist yet, as it’s arrived needing a battery (the seller was very clear about this) but feast your eyes on this elegant piece of design. A powerhouse of Bauhaus, Braun made this lovely time piece back in the 90s and I think it’s aged really well. Celebrating simplicity of form, nothing present that doesn’t have a function, and I think that makes it a timeless timepiece.
It cost me… wait for it…

£25.72 including postage.

Can you get more cool for that little cash aside maybe a Casio?

I have this lovely Omega de Ville quartz - I’m not saying these are cheap (it was~£300), but wow they are cheap for how nice they are. Being an early quartz, it’s a lovely movement, accurate, and ready to go after weeks away. This is also the thinnest watch I own by some way, and as odd as it sounds, the softest strap of any watch I have. The ideal dress watch.

I think these are second rated to automatic and manual wind Omegas and the seamaster and speedmaster range and it means they are really good value.

What do you think?
