Games Like Sly Cooper (series)

This series has been INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT to find anything remotely similar, but I've compiled a small list of games that at least have some of the same elements in common.

Games like Sly 1: Sly Cooper And The Thevius Raccoonus

Crash Bandicoot (Series)- Sly 1 was heavily inspired by the fundamentals of Crash such as linear 3D platformer gameplay and cartoon style

Rayman 3- Idk so much about Rayman 2, but 3 is very cartoony in its character designs, has lush environments, goofy characters, Globox like Murray is a fat sidekick, it's a 3d platformer, and like Sly is also French

Sonic Adventure 2- Main villain turns animals into robots, MC wears blue and is cool, Group is dexterous mc with a nerdy gadget guy and guy who punches stuff, linear 3d platformer where you can link combos to move fast, unlock new abilities as you play through the main game, Both characters can slide on rails, Both characters run away from their love interest

Games like Sly 2-4: Band of Thieves, Honor Among Thieves, Thieves In Time

Over The Hedge- play as a Raccoon thief who enlists the help of a turtle and other animals to pull off a heist/stealing. Also has minigames,

Carmen Sandiego: The Secret of the Stolen Drums- Globetrotting ACME agent Cole Gannon voiced by Kevin Miller must chase down world renowned thief Carmen San Diego and stop her from stealing a precious diamond.

Styx (trilogy): Of Orcs and Men, Master of Shadows, Shards of Darkness- This is honestly the closest thing I can think of because it has all of the same gameplay elements, but slightly different execution, and new additions like partners, a focus on combat, and even similar abilities like invisibility. You play as a wiseazz goblin in this grim dark stealth action 3d platformer.

Beyond Good & Evil- Tbh idr exactly why, but when I played this it gave me Sly Cooper vibes.

Assassin's Creed- you come from a long line of master assassins, games take place across different locations in the real world, some fantastical alternate history elements, all sorts of stealth and acrobatic gameplay maneuvers,

Prince of Persia- would be the sister series to Assassin's Creed, 3d action platformer, time mechanic,

Mousey- 3D platformer heavily inspired by Sly Cooper gameplay elements, similar music, stealth elements?, play as an anthropomorphic mouse, started as a Sly Cooper game engine being made in Unity

Scraptail: Down The Drain- 3D platformer heavily inspired by Sly Cooper gameplay elements, stealth, similar music, thief plot, humanoid rat character, 2d art of other animal characters

Ratatouille- 3d stealth platforming game about a rat in Paris

Lupin The 3rd: Treasure Of The Sorcerer King- relies heavily on stealth and the use of various disguises and is displayed from a third-person perspective, Lupin is similar in tone and style to Sly Cooper, Sanzaru games took Arsene from Lupin (and Batman) as how they viewed Sly Cooper when making Thieves In Time

PS2 3D Action Adventure Platformers/Contemporaries:

Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter, Kingdom Hearts, Ty The Tasmanian Tiger, Spyro The Dragon,

Sucker Punch's other games:

Rocket: Robot On Wheels- literally the predecessor to Sly Cooper, gameplay, cartoon style, raccoon and Walrus, etc

InFamous- feels like an evolution of Sly's gameplay, still has a comic book style

Ghost of Tsushima- again evolving and experimenting with/altering the formula they solidified with Sly, action stealth 3d game that takes place in japan

Fangames:

Sly Cooper: A Thief In Paris

Dreams- anything Sly Cooper made in Dreams

Court of Thieves (unreleased)

Deceit of Thieves (unreleased)

Other:

PSEUDOREGALIA- mostly because of the movement, at least how it looked to me, ps1 stylized, anthro animal

Metal Gear Solid- PlayStation synonymous stealth games series with a balance of goofy and dark elements, nerdy guy helps you over the radio, codecs and binocucom are really similar (you can move their heads in both games), they both have this - Sly do you read me!? Slyyyyyyy!! / Snake what happened? Snakeeeee!!

Splinter Cell- a stealth action game series

James Bond- suave lead, stealth, gadgets,

Star Fox- the series have a lot of surface level similarities, and both have furry icons

Tenchu- PlayStation synonymous* 3d stealth platformer series

Stray- sort of stealth game where you play as an actual cat in a city

Ghost of a Tale- rat stealth games, but looks more like realistic animal medieval legend of zelda

Mini Ninjas- stealth themed 3d action platformer

Batman Arkham Series- Batman was an inspiration for Sly, 3d stealth games, action adventure?

Persona 5- wiseguy thief who runs with the phantom theives, but gameplay is a vn / jrpg

Psychonauts 1&2- I've heard these mentioned a few times, for me I just know they're stylized collectathon 3d platformers with a sense of humor, they are kid games with adult themes

It Takes Two- kid friendly 3d co op platformer with adult themes

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum- stealth 3d platformer

PK: Out of the Shadows- similar vibes, has some vehicles gameplay

The Truth behind Star Fox 2's cancelation

https://x.com/TheBoneHeadClan/status/2054259999245815853?s=20

"Is there any truth to the cancelation behind Star Fox 2? Miyamoto feeling upstaged by youngsters, or wanting a clean break between their 2D & 3D games? Nintendo seemed to take Star Fox 2's ideas, but never again worked with Argonaut, and Croc was never ported to N64, spitefully?"

According to Argonaut:

"Nintendo wanted a clean break between what the SNES could do and what the N64 was about to do. Our contract ended, and we developed our Yoshi concept into Croc, designed from the ground up for PlayStation, Saturn and PC. No conspiracies, spite, or unsubstantiated rumors."

"Thank you 👏 so much🙏 for clearing up a decades long misconception in a single post."

What is the Two Kongs theory?

First, we need to understand the DK lifecycle.

The Donkey Kong lifecycle is in 5 parts: Baby Junior Adult Elder Ghost

Our examples are: Baby DK DK Jr. Donkey Kong Cranky Kong & Wrinkly Kong's Ghost

Donkey Kong the first has been seen as a baby, adult, and elder, and likely will be a ghost when he dies. Though we never see him in his Junior design even though we can assume he's had one.

In every appearance that DK Jr has ever had he is wearing his iconic white sleeveless shirt. Sometimes it has the letter J for Junior or a different symbol on it. Seemingly he never ages either, always being depicted as a child, a junior.

DK Jr was originally supposed to be Donkey Kong's sidekick in Donkey Kong Country 1, but rareware wanted to change his design. Nintendo asked that the design be kept the same or that they make a new character and that's how Diddy Kong was created.

Interestingly when the original Donkey Kong the first became old, his design was changed, and his name was changed to cranky kong to reflect that.

The name Donkey Kong is passed down in the lineage. Cranky Kong, Donkey Kong Jr, and Donkey Kong have all held the title. It just changes with age and appearance.

This suggests that Nintendo has designs associated with certain names. Therefore I propose that when Donkey Kong Jr grew up he changed his shirt for a tie, lost the suffix of junior, and became just Donkey Kong.

In the original duology, DK Jr shows up to help his dad against Mario. In Donkey Kong ‘94, DK Jr again shows up to help his dad. So why is it then in the Mario Vs Donkey Kong series, which has the same premise as those games, does DK Jr never show up to help his dad?

Donkey Kong the first is the one who originally kidnapped Pauline and was defeated, imprisoned, and tortured by Mario. He was saved by his son DK Jr, aka Donkey Kong the second. Donkey Kong the first eventually grew old and became Cranky Kong. At some point Donkey Kong the third came into the picture. He is the one in the main timeline with King K. Rool and the other Kongs that seemingly started with the Country series. After Junior was passed over as the sidekick in Donkey Kong Country, he largely disappeared from the public eye. Or did he?

Is it possible that this DK Jr grows up to be the Donkey Kong we know in the Mario Vs Donkey Kong series? DK Jr in the titular Donkey Kong Jr does not demonstrate the use of any contraptions, however DK Jr does demonstrate the use of contraptions in Donkey Kong ‘94, the game considered to be the predecessor to the Mario Vs Donkey Kong series. He also demonstrates an understanding of mathematics in DK Jr Math suggesting that he has a high level of intelligence.

Mario, Pauline, Donkey Kong, and DK Jr all made amends at the end of Donkey Kong ‘94, but after watching his father getting whipped and caged by Mario, and even himself caged, he became more of a villain. He tried for a while, went karting, played tennis, but he just couldn’t let bygones be bygones.

Eventually his father abandoned him in favor of his grandson. With no father figure around he never really grew up. That would explain his obsession with things like toys and theme parks, why he has no manners with women ergo Pauline, yet how he demonstrates the intelligence to create the contraptions found in said games. He was also the reason his father started to be called Cranky Kong.

DK Jr dropped the title of Junior from his name, exchanged his shirt for the DK tie, and claimed his rightful title as Donkey Kong. With their image identical, and their name the same, how could you trust yourself to know which is which? And Cranky being a bit senile gets his son and grandson confused which is why he is so mean to him.

Donkey Kong the third didn’t have a son of his own, but teamed up with his nephew Diddy, keeping the Donkey Kong father and son type duo legacy alive. Junior however went out on his own. He’s never seen with any other Kongs in the Mario Vs Donkey Kong series. But old habits die hard and he kidnaps Pauline just like his father did all those years ago.

I would also consider the theory that Donkey Kong ‘94 is actually a sequel to the original games, with a grown up DK Jr as Donkey Kong, and Donkey Kong the third as the new DK Jr. He was following exactly in his father’s footsteps which he never stops as we see in the Mario Vs Donkey Kong series. Meanwhile Donkey Kong the third grows up to be the hero we see in the Donkey Kong Country series and onwards.

See the video for the final conclusion at the end. ;)

There's a theory that Metroid Prime is actually a Lamorn that traveled back in time and underwent Metroid Fusion. I have a similar theory about the Green Energy found in Metroid Prime 4. So I thought, if time travel can be used for one theory, then why not another?

I think that Phazon and Green energy are directly connected and that a Leviathan somehow hit Viewros. I think that Tallon IV is Viewros in the past, and that a Lamorn traveled there, was corrupted by Phazon, fused with a Metroid, and became Metroid Prime. But it's far from that simple.

Watch the video to find out how! Comment your thoughts and theories below and we can discuss! What do you think?

Edit:

Turns out adding the link didn't work before? 😅 I'm guessing I'm going to miss out on a lot of views. I might have to make a separate post later. At least I've added the link now, check it out!
