So I'm making my Oops All Dreadnoughts (Legends) list, and I'm thinking... Man these friend cubes are slow.

I'm looking for something on the list I can creatively mangle and I see a unit that should be legends because it sucks.

Where a boxy dreadnought is slow but charming, the Invader ATV is fast but a dumb sad pig. That it remains on the regular forces list while the boxies are off proves GW is lost to grace and redemption.

But that statline... That's actually not far off a boxy basic dread.

So I gets to thinking.

I could have invader Dreads in my list, to tear ass up the board and do crazy dirt track races against Orks in buggies.

Not technically legends or a dreadnought, but this is what happens when nobody answers my call for help and just lets me spin and spin.

Enter... the Quadnought.

Used coffee grounds dried in the oven have proven to be my best and most used base texture. Glues well, takes paint well, picks up texture treatments like dry brushing. Mix with used herbal tea for a more organic loamy texture. Mix with spackle water and glue for something sandier.

I have never liked the old clonky goofy waddle-box dreadnoughts. What is that? How is that supposed to move? That looks like an angry Pontiac Aztek trying to reach the cereal off the high shelf.

Dumb, silly, weird. Get back to the goblin green flock and don't bother me in my grimdark splendor.

Now I can't stop thinking about how much I want a dozen of them. Just a field of happy friend cubes.

There are a lot of files, but I found a really great one and ran him off on my A1 with Bambu Basic light grey, the finest native profile for a .4 nozzle, and my easy remove supports. A little cutting let me get good bed adhesion and one plate and 8 hours delivered unto me this chonky boy.

I upscaled to 120% but otherwise made no mods. Went for the classic loadout.

My incredibly stupid plan is the blast out a 2k Oops All Dreadnoughts legends heavy list using Rogue Trader dreads as Centurion proxies and Librarian dreads to teleport them all over the board like they're playing cornhole with half ton corpse cans.

Bishop Crowe, Ministorum firebrand, winner of souls, preacher, evangelist, and famed grave robber. The penetant knights and at least semi-reformed tomb breakers of his entourage all serve his dual mission of preaching the truth of He On Earth and scavenging the killing fields and mass graves and ancient wrecks for battle-blessed relics to enshrine, venerate, and offer to the truly dedicated believers... For a small donation. Or a large donation.

When the Bishop is not leading his band of scavengers on foot, he stands atop the great war engine Litania Sepulcreti to preach or to fight, giving his fate up to the emperor... And to the heavy ion shields taken, along with weapons, from a wrecked Castelan of some lost and forgotten house.

All of Crowe's knights are dramatically off pattern, but his brother Magos Crowe sees to that side of things. All his knights are Twice Indulged, carrying one from the imperial cult and one from the Mechanicus.

Bishop Crowe's Traveling Show is part tent revival, part passion play, part carnival, part grift, part grave robbing criminal enterprises, and a hell of an experience for rubes and faithful alike.

I saw the old epic scale Knight Paladin metal mini in White Dwarf when I was a kid, and always wanted it but never got one. I didn't know what epic scale was or anything so I probably thought it was a weird space marine.

Cut to today, and I play Imperial Knights and I saw a pic of the old mini on Reddit and inspiration struck.

So here is the Pilgrim, 15,000 years old and still walking towards distant light.

He's a John Bear Ross model. Lots of weathering techniques and arts and crafts. I made all the poppies. I intended for a Blanchian Zorn Pallette but one of my colors was cooler than expected and some greens came out in the washes.

Fifteen thousand years old at least, and already ancient when Horus committed his first sin. The Pilgrim might be the oldest knight in continuous service. The titans that cast shadows across its path have turned to dust. Every enemy it faces is pale compared to one it remembers. To bond with the Pilgrim is to join the long slow walk towards distant, ever distant, light. It takes a fiery spirit to not succumb to the steady peace, to give up ego, take holy orders, or simply sit until starvation takes you. Only the wildest and angriest and most broken scions can withstand the lulling pace of the Pilgrim's steady tread into eternity. And then, only for a time.

The Pilgrim was inspired by a little epic scale Paladin knight I saw in White Dwarf as a kid. I didn't really know what it was then or how epic scale worked. The pose has stayed with me all these years.

This model is a John Bear Ross _Project Old School_ with some modifications but fundamentally John's kit. Hell of a good model. Absolute joy to print and work with.

The painting techniques I used were a lot of washes and salt chipping - chunky salt adhered with a little water and overspirated with the next layer of color. He's got seven color layers and then an oil wash over black prime and zenethal. Some sponging to add a little final texture and pick up some highlights finished him off.

The poppies on the base are DIY - sponge crumbs from blitzing in a blonder colored three ways and attached to paintbrush bristle stems. The rocks are foam clay that took on cool shapes when it accidentally dried up on the bag. The texture is coffee and herbal tea mostly.

I came across the little guy here on Reddit - a epic scale metal oldhammer Knight Paladin. I remember this mini from White Dwarf when I was a kid. I wanted it so bad. The pose always stuck with me.

And I thought.. why not now?

By way of John Bear Ross's Old School mech model, I think I kind of nailed it.

The Pilgrrm is over 15,000 years old, ancient when Horus committed his heresy. It's machine spirit is so vague and ephemeral, it is felt through the throne like déjà vu, as it has already seen everything. Communion with it is like walking towards distant light, slowly and steadily, surrounded by thousands of fellow travelers. It takes a stubborn angry mind to resist the quiet of this eternal procession.

My plans for paint are ambitious - black prime, white zenethal, then all over soaked in rusty red brown.

Then, salt weathering. Five layers of salt weathering to create the effect of layers of flaking paint.

Ancient but still walking, the eternal pilgrim, living relic, eternally resolute.

It will attract such crowds for Bishop Crowe's Traveling Show.

Come see ! Come see! The great hero knight, the eternal holy that stood before He who Rules on Terra before the Heresy! Touch his blessed feet and feel the grit of Old Earth! Donations accepted and encouraged!

I'm thinking about making an oldhammer retro style Paladin inspired by the metal epic scale minis. Not a perfect upscale clone, but one in a particular pose (see the rad AF screencap). I remember seeing that mini as a kid and the pose has stuck with me.

The modeling will be fun, and figuring out how to work the modern secondary and carapace weapons in while staying 'inside the lines' will be a good challenge.

I fully intend to add the model to my Crusade list which is already themed on graverobbing and turning ancient wrecks into "living holy relics" for Bishop Crow's Traveling Show. An ancient pre-heresy lost pattern resurrected into disreputable service is really appealing.

So... How does it actually play? It would need the classic cannon/saw loadout, and I intend to commit to the build so no magnets. I've never run a paladin, nor the RFBC.

What is Pally good at? How do I use him?

Wrapping up about what I can do with the limited vacation supplies and the constraints I placed on the project. The brief I wrote for myself was...

Limited Zorn/Blanche inspired pallet.

Do as much with transparents and glazes as possible.

Coherency, with every piece being different in its particulars.

Fun experimentation and maximum chill.

My standard here is "enjoyed making them, table ready"

I had some surprises - the black I was working with was a cool black with a lot of blues. This led to some unexpected results like greens popping out in the shadows and the assassin picking up purple.

The printing was expedient rather than super optimized - good enough standard. .2 nozzle, FDG, my own tree support settings, Bambu A1 with Bambu grey standard PLA.

I'm pretty happy. This was a good time working on the porch with sunlight and the lake sounds.

The Malcaor'vesa serve the greater good with bright evangelism.

What is a Tyranid but a vessel for purpose?

Simply excise the psychic ganglia, replace with a drone network interface, and install a prosthetic engram personality - optimistic, cheerful, simplified.

The Saint of the Ill-Made is a lurching agonized walking sacred relic, a subject of veneration by imperial cult and mechanicum cult alike. It walks as part of Bishop Crowe's mission of sacred salvage, ripping battle-blessed relics of bone or ceremite from fallen war machines. All knights in his service are twice-indulged and doubally penetant - given license by both cult mechanicul and Ecclesiarchy to engage in holy grave robbing, and to carry the bones and iron of the dead to inspire the faithful and terrify the unbelieving. The mission comes with its big tents and fiery sermons and it's traveling ossuary and treasure of reliquaries and great booming organ and all faithful are welcome, all donations are welcome, and Saint fingerbones or armor fragments are available for a modest consideration.

The Saint of the Ill-Made offers a silent benediction to mutants, abhumans, and the excessively mutilated. Lo, look upon him! He suffers in service, his power is a pennance, his body is twisted and unsightly just as is yours, but the Emperor and Omnisia both welcome your worship and sacrifice.

He's a massively customized 3D print made from bits I found on Cults and junk I had in my bits heap - lots of green stuff cables and cutting and gluing and so much airbrush primer from so many angles it's stupid.

Plays as a lancer. Iurching and ungainly, it scrambles rather than strides, until bringing the titan power claw over and down, it's body a counterweight. It won't have armor and the pilot will be visible inside - also customed heavily.

The last pic are the two grave robbing armigers by the Saint - Corpse Cutter and Coffin Bearer.

WiP - my Imperial Knights combat patrol pair, the counterpoint to my Chaos Knight crab and hydra.

These are the hated knights penetant, the twice-parroned carrion men, kites of the battlefield granted two indulgences, one from the Ecclesiarchy, one from the Cult Mechanicus.

They plunder the places where the honored dead fell to return corpse saints and old thrones, precious objects of veneration. Their fellow Knights despise them, dishonorable scavengers that they are.

Coffin Bearer's armiger helverin is heavier with massive linier rams and broader carapace to carry the load of relics and reliquaries and coffins and thrones. The Mechanicus indulgence absolves this deviation from tek orthodoxy. When I get him finished he will be covered in chains, will be dragging more thrones and coffins, and will have hanging reliquaries.

Corpse Cutter is stripped bare of armor, his frame scared and barely repaired. He is quick and his Armiger Warglaive is ideal for cutting open knight carcases and ripping out their sainted dead pilots and their ancient thrones. When I complete him he will be draped in lepper's rags and bandaged roughly on his worst damage made from a mix of fabric, paper, and tape.

Paint and finish will be grimdark and muddy.
