What are the most motivated reviews you’ve ever seen?

Title. I find these types of reviews to be awesome to read, especially if they are shitting on the album big time. I want to see long winded reviews that talk about why they think they’re better than the Bible or worse than hell.

Here’s my all time favorite review to see the type of writing I’m looking for: https://www.albumoftheyear.org/user/lord0fdiamonds/album/597-lift-yr-skinny-fists-like-antennas-to-heaven/

Creative rage projects?

I want to get into some rage that also has some experimental aspects of it. Don’t recommend Che, osomason, 2slimey, etc.. I’m looking for some actual underground rage

What’s some dreamy 2000’s shoegaze

I love this era of shoegaze with a lot of nearly unknown shoegaze bands. Some examples of bands are Volplane, Sway, and Isobella. Thank you in advance!

Mellow 80’s songs?

Basically the title. I’m looking for albums with the same energy as these songs:

The Downtown Lights - The Blue Nile

Closedown - The Cure

Rockin’ Back Inside My Heart - Julee Cruise

Houston - Jean Dawson (not an 80’s song but has what I’m looking for)

What I particularly like about these songs are the atmospheric feel with the synths (and the jazz elements on the 1st and 3rd songs). Thank you in advance!

What’s your lowest rated no skip album?

Basically title. What’s the lowest score you gave an album but still considered to have no skips?

Mine is 100% ELECTRONICA by George Clanton. A awesomely produced clillwave/synth pop record

😭

It’s supposed to be a folk album, but there’s no way it‘s a 100 or a 0. It’s also definitely the biggest split i’ve ever seen. I guess I recommend listening to it

For those of yall that don’t explore much music outside of your favorite artists, why?

As a person that is pretty open to listening to a lot of music, I genuinely don’t understand this mindset. I always go into an album thinking it could either expose me to a sound I already love or something I didn’t know I would like.

Anyways, I’d love to see y’all’s explanations

If I give out recs, will y’all actually tap in and listen to them?

I just don’t want to go through all the effort of writing out recommendations if no one is going to take or read them.

Also to make it music related I recommend Remains by Tokyo Shoegaze. Great rock album from this year

Hot Takes: 100 Score

Ok so before I get into this I f’d up and didn’t read the announcements so my previous post got taken down. Make sure yall describe the album yall put a picture of!

Feel free to share your 100’s.

Don’t include something like TPAB or Vespertime that are pretty close already

Slide: A chillwave/hypnagogic pop album from the GOAT George Clanton.

Glimmer of God: Jean Dawson tries out a more approachable sound by creating some beautiful R&B/80’s pop inspired songs.

Avantdale Bowling Club: My personal favorite rap album oat because of its beautiful jazz instrumentation and meaningful lyrics.

Two Star & The Dream Police: A shorter album but with a beautiful production style that no one has been able to replicate since its release.

I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU: It was my first introduction to Peggy and experimental hip hop as a whole, and it hooked me the first time I heard it.

Vanisher, Horizon Scraper: Quadeca builds one of the most immersive albums I’ve listened to with the great, ocean-like production and Quadeca’s mix of rapping and singing.

Bandana: The dusty feel of the production matches perfectly with (imo) some of Freddie’s best rapping performances. And he’s able to get black thought, Yasiin Bey, and himself on one song?

Virgin: A very minimalistic approach on production, but it contrast beautifully with Lorde’s heavily emotional lyrics and performances.

Swimming: This is one of my favorite albums to listen to front back because of the consistent feel of the album’s beautiful production that matches the album cover so well, and Mac’s great performances.

Everyone of us should watch this

Now this is not to put anyone on blast, but everyone watching this video could be great to not only support a small, hardworking YouTuber, but also to see how we could develop our tastes. And this is not a post that is saying popular music is bad (it’s popular for a reason most of the time), I just want more diverse discussions in this sub.

Widening our horizons could help engagement with the sub (bc people see this sub provides fruitful discussions), therefore simultaneously bring more people in with a similar taste to you. And you get to discover more music.

Now you don’t necessarily need to watch this video to get the mindset to listen to more music, but it wouldn’t hurt. He goes over some subgenres and albums that will both help you discover a sound you never knew you loved.

So pop on this video while you’re eating lunch or something and truly make an effort to discover more music.

Also to end this I’d like to recommend AZ by 23wa. If you like Jane Remover or the sidepiece (Stickerbush and heavensouls), there is no reason not to check this album out. Starts off a little slow, but it will definitely keep you hooked after some of the first song. He also has a visualizer on YouTube to go along with it.

Video Game OSTs that are actually cool to listen to on their own

You see the title. Give me some OSTs that are good to listen to nostalgia aside. I love vaporwave if that helps with your selection

Can we vote to change the sub pfp

If we want to have any sense of coolness to cover up the true cornballs we (yes, WE) are, we need a better pfp than this. No diss to whoever made it, but using one of my recommended pfps would be way better. I tried to think of things that were both niche and popular.

The first 3 are my true recs. These albums are actually popular (for Reddit) and have amazing album covers. Also, when I recommend the black Vanisher cover, I mean the black Vanisher cover. That shit is so fly.

The other 3 are albums that I like a lot but are a little less talked about. Still great covers, but if this actually happened, I would choose one of the first 3 (specifically the BLACK Vanisher cover).

Dear Reddit mods, I hope you will take my recommendation into consideration. This would genuinely want me to visit the sub more just to see the BLACK Vanisher cover.

And to relate this to music, I recommend you (the reader) listen to Pleamar by Resplandor. The album has guitar work from a member of the Cocteau Twins and mixing by a member of Slowdive, which if you don’t know, are both peak dream pop/shoegaze. So you at least know the production is good going into this

❤️ or ❤️

Don’t see this discussion enough and it’s kind of crazy since they’re both amazing EPs for their own reasons. I lean towards ❤️, but ❤️ still has a special place in my ❤️

Music takes that make you want to poke out your eyes

For me, it’s when people say “there’s no good rap/music anymore 😔.” Genuinely grinds my gears when people say this bc we are in an era that there is music for everyone. If you can’t find good music that has released in the last 10 years, you aren’t searching hard enough

Which collab album do y’all want more

As cool as a STH Vol 2 would be, my vote is Quadeca and Danny. Some of my favorite verses from Danny are on the 2 Quadeca albums, so seeing that would be amazing
