I'm trying to recover some information from a few old floppy discs... I remember years ago when I transferred much of my stuff over, one reader read more floppies than another.

Is there a high quality floppy drive reader out there that would be considered the best or of a high quality? Or are they basically mostly the same? Thanks in advance!

I am going to be scanning a metal furnace door and it has raised text on it that says "Danger, keep door closed" or something like that in raised letters. It also has a fine lip around the edge for a fireproof gasket to fit in there snuggly, as well as a few other details for a temp sensor and tiny window. I have it glued back together so it looks perfect, and now I want to scan it as accurately as possible, including the text.

If I won't be scanning anything any bigger than this, what's the best scanner for this exact project, I don't mind if it goes slow, I just want it to capture the text very nicely. I will keep or sell the scanner after this, I just want it to be the best one for this project, one that will handle the detail nicely.

I have a $1,000 budget, but if there is an insane quality jump, I'd go up to $2,000.

Any suggestions for a scanner that will handle the detailed text? Every site claims they are the answer, but I'd rather hear from someone with first hand experience.

I'm looking to purchase the best possible printer to print the best possible photos to send to family as well as to use for work (so price isn't an issue, but I don't need anything that's a larger format than the photos I'd send to family.)

Not necessarily baby photos, but that's the idea. New photos of important things from my phone, old scanned photos from old pictures, digital pictures taken at family get togethers, and some really special moments that I have on my phone that I want to send to elderly family members who seem to only enjoy it if it's a photograph they are holding in their hand.

Also, I would use this to print some things for work, which further justifies a higher price.

I do not care about the cost of ink (but don't want to "subscribe" to any ink programs)

I will be printing 20-50 really important photos a month.

I only need normal 4X6 inch (or similar) sized photos printed.

I don't care about any other capabilities as far as scanning or whatever fancy things some printers do. I just want as high quality photos as are possible from images that are scanned, taken with a camera, or taken with a phone.

So far I've come to the conclusion that Epson and Cannon are the best, and that the Epson ET8500 is probably what I'll go with, if anyone knows of anything better (from personal experience) please let me know.

I will be cutting a lot of parts- maybe 4-6 hours a day and at least 3 days a week. If a Rockwell 40-440 is in fantastic shape, is there any benefit to buying a $1,000+ Pegasus or other brand?

To me it looks like I'd be getting a lighter-duty cheaper machine with just a cool color and shiney parts. But the money isn't the issue, it's will I have a better machine, a smoother running machine, etc...?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated from those with experience. Thank you!

I am making some custom insoles for a sports team (about 25 total, from both schools, as much about the printed fabric as it is anything, but still want them to fit) and all the sizes needed happen to be spread across 6 different sizes. Is an insole for a size 12 Men's the exact size AND SHAPE in a Nike shoe, a Reebok shoe, and whatever other brand? Is there like some standard pattern you can search or download?

I realize different brands have different "lasts" (the shape they mold the shoes around) but I'm wondering if the outline footprint-like shape of the foot has a standard outline for each size or if they vary by brand to brand, and if by a little or a lot.

If anyone knows, or if I should just use a big name brand insole and trace that, it would be very helpful.

I've found a preworkout that I like a lot, it's still commercially everywhere, and I want to do what I WISH I did back when Excelsior was in it's prime.

I've seen people open them, put the silica packs in them and put them in a closet, and then I've seen people put the new containers right in a freezer...

Is there a for-sure "best" thing to do for long term storage?

I overheard some younger co workers talking about how their screen protectors often break when they drop their phone, and I heard one person say that it seems the screen protector breaks every time he drops his phone, and he's been through 3 screen protectors THIS YEAR so far.

I've bought all my iPhones as the maxxed out version, at an average of one every 3 years, paid outright, and I still have ALL of them and all would be considered a 7 or better (out of 10) if I were grading them to list for sale. I dropped an iPhone 2 times in 10 years +, both times it dinged the corner of the factory Apple Silicone case, nothing ever broke besides the corner of the case.

I work inside, outside, walk/run 12 miles a week on average, and have my phone on me every waking minute. Is it that I'm aware that this thing cost me 2 months of my life (take home pay after taxes and after living expenses) at my job, and that I paid for it outright at the Apple store, or is it just the next generation's way of being careful with something they maybe pay monthly on with insurance?

I'm wondering what others think about this.

I have a 2015, 2017, and 2019 27" imac, and a Macbook Air M4 that I use daily for specific work.

What is the best way to run 3 or 4 external monitors at the same time off of any of these machines (or specific ones, whatever is a good solution) where the least amount of load is put on the Mac?

Is there a certain type of dock, splitter, or whatever that takes the load off the Mac? Is 2 monitors more likely to work smoothly than 3 or 4 or is does the right hub dock thing make the number of monitors not as important?

Some of the monitors are 27" Dells, and probably some other sizes are kicking around here, if anyone knows of a way to do this where the Mac doesn't have to have super high specs that would be great.

I build a custom tool/machine (think of it as a small jobsite gas generator, in terms of size and steal-ability- much more expensive, but still interesting enough that they're commonly stolen, even by people who don't know exactly what it is).... I'm thinking to get the case that lets you insert an airtag into it with several lithium AA batteries, and putting it INSIDE the frame before welding it closed. This would help me should one go "lost" in shipping it to them, (it's a very expensive lost item that even insurance won't fully cover) and once they have it and we're all good, I can tell them there's an Airtag in it and they can sign into it and make it their own?

I have all Apple stuff, but never used an AirTag. Is it kind of like an iPad where I can sign it out of my iCloud and someone else can sign into it? Would I need physical access to the AirTag for any reason to do this?

Today my power steering went out, got the error code saying to check the power steering or something like that.

It's electronic, so no pump and fluid. I looked under the hood, couldn't see anything wildly out of place.

I just changed the battery 2 days ago, and everything worked fine for the 2 days, from other's experience, could there be a connection between the two events?

There is someone who is constantly replying thoughtless comments and ruining the entire thread. They are also a "top contributer" yet offer nothing at all of value each time they comment, so I assume they are just trying to inflate their post count, which I don't care, but they are completely ruining every thread people post.

Is there any way to meaningfully report them, or block them from replying in a thread?

I have an old barn that burned down. I want to pour a large floor where it used to be, I can't afford a building yet, but at least I can work on the 10 machines and vehicles here on the concrete floor.

I DO have all these stones- they are from the foundation of a wood silo and walls from the old barn. Is there a way I can lay these out so that they take up a majority of the floor (and concrete needed) even if it's wasteful (since I have the stones, and they're no money out) to where I can really stretch out the concrete needed?

What would you suggest so that I can make the floor as large as possible while needing as little concrete as possible? Thanks!

I'm looking to make between 100-1,000 T-shirts, they are for the people at our company, I will do the artwork and there will be a lot of drawn parts (documenting the items we made) from the first 10 years of the plant.

I'm not looking to buy cheap and sell online, I want both a quality T-shirt and a super quality printer, would anyone have any suggestions where I could go for a quality shirt and a quality print? These aren't for profit, I just want the best possible result since these will be gifts and mean something.

Any suggestions, let me know. I will appreciate any advice from those who had a quality shirt made at some point. Thanks!
