Letting all the details shine today 🍁

My favourite thing about my GSAR Red Maple (besides the crisp Maple Leaf on Arctic dial) is the way the details take centre stage.

I love everything about this watch. Its fitment, its weight, the tritium lume, the red seconds hand, the ‘radioactive’ emblem at 3, and the embossed numbers on the bezel. It just never gets old.

[TAG Heuer Aquaracer] Still one of TAG’s classiest designs

This here is a 2014 TAG Heuer Aquaracer (WAP1110). When I bought it on the used market, I wasn’t expecting to start collecting watches, so I wanted a piece that could be my go-to for everything. Dressing up, dressing down, doing chores, swimming, travelling, etc. That’s also why quartz was important.

Since then, my collection has grown (as is the story for many watch enthusiasts LOL), but I still find myself looking down at this piece, and thinking “wow, what a classy piece of design”. I find so many of TAG’s watches lean more to the sporty side of watch design, but this reference seamlessly blends sporty and dressy, much like Omega did so well in the late 60’s and 70’s.

I really think TAG hit it out of the park with this 2013-14 Aquaracer collection. What do you think?

Haven’t Posted in a While 🌺 - WAP1110 (2014)

This is the watch that started my collection a while back. A 2014 Aquaracer ref. WAP1110. Bought it for myself as a way to celebrate graduating University, and my collection has grown a bit since then. Nonetheless, this piece will always be special, and one of my favourites

Late Evening Delivery from Amazon - MQ-24-9B 🌃

Popped up in my Amazon cart for $29 CAD on sale and thought it’d be a fun little pick-up to scratch the watch purchasing itch. Such a cool looking piece, can’t go wrong.

If Tyler, The Creator can rock it on the red carpet, I can rock it too 🤣

[Timex Elevated Classics] My Grandfather’s Daily 🕊️

The world of watch collecting is a funny one. It’s a never-ending game of adding pieces that make you feel like yourself. A way of sort of bookmarking a version of your personality.

“Ah yes, I got this while on a trip to Boston after I got promoted” or “My wife gifted this to me back when we celebrated our first wedding anniversary”

But as a collector, the thing that never fails to impress me is how receiving a watch from a late relative will always take precedent over brand names, value, engineering, design, or certain moments in life. Just knowing that the person you loved; The person you grew up with and respected, used this timepiece to do all the things in their life, that I now get to do in mine, is enough for me to see this watch as a priceless piece of my collection.

My Grandfather got this watch in 2007, 8 years after I was born. It was a new line from Timex called the Elevated Classics R Series. It suited him perfectly.

It was his one watch for everything. He golfed with it, travelled with it, dressed it up, dressed it down, went cycling, did home projects, and wore it in all the best pictures I have with him. It was affordable and convenient, which for him, a financial planner in his retirement, perfectly reflected his personality. But it was also elegant, and understated, which reflected his pre-retirement professional life as a high school principal.

Years later, after I watched American Psycho, I always thought that my Grandfather’s Timex resembled Bateman’s Seiko in the film, and I thought that was so cool. Then, soon before my Grandfather passed in 2019, he gave me the watch off his wrist. He asked me to keep it for him while he was in the hospital.

Now, 2026, I wear this watch when I feel like I need guidance. On good days, and on bad. I’ll find myself looking down at it and remembering that this watch did everything with my grandfather for over 10 years, and that little piece of him lives with me whenever I have it on.

Miss you all the time, poppa! 🕊️

1970 Omega Genève (166.041)

I’ve been on the hunt for a vintage Omega for a number of months now, scouring forums, buy/sell sites and auctions to commemorate my most recent career shift.

Stumbled upon this pristine example of an Omega Genève from 1970, unpolished, complete with the original 2030 bracelet, signed crown and plexiglass, original dial & hands, and a completely overhauled cal. 565 movement coming in at +2 sec/day, and a beat error rate of 0.3ms

1970 Omega Genève (166.041) cal. 565 on Original 2030 Bracelet

My most recently acquired piece, and my first Omega. (Also posted in the OMEGA sub)

I’ve been on the hunt for a vintage Omega for a number of months now, scouring forums, buy/sell sites and auctions to commemorate my most recent career shift. I was torn between wanting a project watch that I could get restored (I’m not a watchmaker, and will not pretend to be lol), or getting a fully serviced piece in original condition with an overhauled movement.

Originally, I had wanted a Constellation (168.017) or similar reference for its clean case angles, size, tidy dial, and workhorse 564 chronometer movement. But the more I searched the market, the less I felt like paying a premium for a model name, especially one on an aftermarket leather strap, or a movement with neglected service (I know not everyone will agree with me on that).

I kept searching, and searching, and finally I stumbled upon this pristine example of an Omega Genève from 1970, unpolished, complete with the original 2030 bracelet, signed crown and plexiglass, original dial & hands, and a completely overhauled cal. 565 movement coming in at +2 sec/day, and a beat error rate of 0.3ms, which outdid many of the serviced 564 chronometers I came across (though I know daily use will affect the accuracy). Truly an incredible movement, and grossly underrated in the watch community for what you get out of it accuracy and reliability wise.

All that for more than half the price of the constellation I initially had my heart set on.

But more than that; the Genève suits me. I appreciate its position in the vintage Omega community, and I like to put it like this:

I buy my watches like I buy my cars. My idea of an ideal machine is its reliability, its history, its design, its purpose, and its ability to punch above its weight. My 2012 Volvo M66 turbo 5cyl doesn’t scream luxury or performance, but it damn sure starts up every -30°C day, out-performs a 320-328i BMW or VW GTI, and has a more niche community than most other enthusiast cars.

The 166.041 just fits so well into that box, coming in as the little cousin to the Constellation and Seamaster references. It’s certainly not a slouch when it comes to history, reliability, and being underrated.

Anyways, I’m proud to have been able to add this piece to my collection, and I look forward to giving it many more decades of history to be written.

Thanks for reading my somewhat self-indulgent essay on my first Omega 😂 I’d love to see what you all would consider your piece that punches above its weight, and feel free to drop your Omega/Vintage watch stories

Affordable doesn’t have to mean boring

Love this watch just as much as the day I ordered it from Japan. 370$ CAD.

Pardon my hot take, but Citizen has been taking far bigger strides in the watch world recently. Not only are they offering better materials in their affordable lines (like sapphire and titanium where Seiko still cuts corners), but their mid-tier automatics, like the Caliber 4197 in this NP1011-08A is much more reliable out of the box compared to other watches in this price range. I’d say they’re up there competing with Tissot for tech/materials.

Plus: Who doesn’t love to stare at an open heart movement?!

Here’s my NP1011-08A on a Strapsco sailcloth strap in black.

I really didn’t think I’d like this watch THIS much ☀️

I bought this 70$ Timex Expedition Scout “Floyd Smernitch” after seeing it on David Harbour’s wrist in the show ‘DTF St. Louis’, just cause I thought it’d be cool to add to my collection, and I could give it a funny name when people ask about it.

But now 1.5 months later, I catch myself reaching for it ALL THE TIME. Really didn’t think I’d like this watch this much, but here we are. My girlfriend calls it the grandfather clock because it ticks so loud 😭 I’ve got an aftermarket STRAPSCO leather band on it right now

One of my favourites in my diverse watch collection. Not a hype piece, just pure 1990’s design, and vintage feel
