How to remove a child from a family sharing plan

A few years ago I added my grandmother to our family sharing plan. Upon doing this Apple decided to create a duplicate account for her (literally the same email but a 1 at the end) and set the age to 3. The phone number is set to a number I don’t have and I don’t have any passwords for it to go through recovery.

Now my family plan is maxed out with an account I never added and I can’t remove it since it’s a child’s. I have called Apple support and they walk me through steps and say I’ll “get a call in a couple of weeks” but that call never comes through. I have tried it 3 times and never got a call.

I can’t reset the password because I don’t have access to the email, and I don’t have access to the phone number. I don’t have anything, and Apple support has been useless.

Any advice?

Found a mysterious metal tube in my basement while tearing apart an old workbench

The gold cap says “if used fill with paper wad”. I thought “Hey, this might be explosive”. I called the fire department. We live in an old mining town so they suspected a mining explosive of some sort. Figured someone brought it home from work when they shouldn’t have. Also under the bench were newspapers from the 80’s are the way back to the 40’s.

Fire department called the cops who came to the same conclusion. Cops called the bomb squad who came out and they had a good laugh. They did some googling and apparently it’s the last tube in the last picture.

Bomb squad came to my house over an old tube of lube…

Need help understanding what I actually need

Hello, some there is some backstory here, but I feel it's necessary. Sorry if it's not.

We moved into a rent to own situation 3 years ago with the agreement that any repairs made to the property would be deducted from the selling price of the house. The house had been abandoned for 2 years prior to our move in. The utilities needed to do some move in inspections before turning on electric and gas. Gas company turned on the gas to the water heater, but not the furnace because of it sitting 2 years. Said we could have an inspection by and HVAC repairman and they can turn it on. Several came out but none would touch it since it was from the 1940's. All said it was old enough that it was too risky to turn on and repairs are going to quickly surpass a new unit. So we got a new unit, and got air conditioning installed as well.

While installing they pointed out the ductwork was wrapped in Asbestos. They said it was in good shape and not an immediate concern, but should be addressed before it became a concern. But they didn't do that kind of work and had no reason to touch the ducts so it didn't impact the furnace install.

Now we are moving to purchase the house, however we can't move the title until the asbestos is removed. Old owner has no insurance so we are financing it and taking it off the cost of the house. We called 3 abatement companies but only 1 showed for their quote and priced it at $4,000. That is removing the ductwork too because the ductwork is rusting and falling apart, so removing the asbestos from it isn't going to do much good.

Getting quotes now for HVAC replacement. I have called 20 companies. I have 3 quotes in hand, and am not happy with any of them. I have had several people come and just ghost us after telling us about other issues we have as well. I have 1 more appointment next week and I will have finished working with every HVAC person in a 50 mile radius.

Quote 1 comes from a large corporation. I figured they are going to run high but also be the easiest to get a quote from to set my expectations. They want $12,000. There is no breakdown of the price of materials vs labor. A key thing to note is this quote just wants to replace it exactly as is, not make alterations. But this is a sales representative, not a install tech.

Quote 2 comes from a guy who missed his appointment entirely. We called him and he had us in for the wrong day. Mistakes happen, so no big deal. So he tells us "How about I do it for half the cost of your highest quote since I messed up". He insists that if it costs more he'll hold to his quote. The concern is if he is biting off too much and has to eat a ton of cost, he's going to take shortcuts and be difficult to warranty his work if something goes wrong. n

Quote 3 isn't official yet. He was here this AM and doing measurements and looking at stuff. He said this scale is usually in the 9-10k ballpark and will give an official quote after he prices everything later tonight.

Some concerns that came up from a few people. First, my returns in the basement are in panned joists. There is no metal ductwork, just sheet metal going over the joists. These have no asbestos, so abatement isn't touching them. Some technicians have said they need removed because they are not up to code. Others have said to leave them alone because they would just be replacing the sheet metal and doing it the same way.

Second, I am being told I don't have enough returns by a couple contractors. It's a 4 ton furnace and an outdoor AC unit. I have 2 returns on the second floor (right beside each other) and 2 returns on the first floor (also right beside each other). I am being told I need to add 2, maybe 3 returns to the house. 1 upstairs away from the other 2, and 1 downstairs, maybe a second. Downstairs the house is split in 2 with a supporting wall. Half the house has no returns on it. They are pointing to condensation on the unit from the AC running to hard with no where to push the air and saying I will burn it up if I don't get more returns in. But most of the HVAC techs didn't mention this, just a few.

I want the job done right, but I don't want to spend a bunch on what I don't need. Any advice on figuring out what I need? I want to listen to the professionals, but they seem to be disagreeing.

Community Hero’s Fair

Galleria said they would have first responders and a Blackhawk helicopter there. I took my daughter because she loves seeing that kind of stuff. Instead it’s just carnival rides and food. Not a single first responder there. Not even an ambulance on standby in case someone gets hurt.

Honestly, a carnival at the mall sounds like a fun idea. The concept of what’s actually up there is fine. But it’s not fun being lied to and now my daughter is sad she didn’t get to see the fire trucks.

Can someone verify some stats please?

Per Gemini Trevor Amann scored the 10th fastest hat trick in GLOBAL professional soccer history. Can someone verify this in any way? I’m not sure where to actually get this kind of information and AI isn’t the most accurate. But if this is true that is absolutely insane! The top 10 before today was:

1 Eduardo Maglioni (1:51) Independiente vs. Gimnasia (1973)

2 Abdul Hamid Bassiouny (1:57) Egypt vs. Namibia (2001)

3 Jimmy O'Connor (2:13) Shelbourne vs. Bohemians (1967)

4 James Hayter (2:22) Bournemouth vs. Wrexham (2004)

5 Ian St John (2:30) Motherwell vs. Hibernian (1959)

6 Joel Pohjanpalo (2:42) HJK Helsinki vs. IFK Mariehamn (2012)

7 Sadio Mané (2:56) Southampton vs. Aston Villa (2015)

8 Robert Lewandowski (3:15) Bayern Munich vs. Wolfsburg (2015)

9 Gift Orban (3:25) Gent vs. İstanbul Başakşehir (2023) — Fastest in UEFA club history.

10 Arif Mehmood (3:30) WAPDA vs. Wohaib (2012)

Trevor is clocked at 3:27 making his just faster than Arif and 2 seconds slower than Gift. Does anyone know if this is reliable information?

Peoples Natural Gas 13% rate increase coming

Peoples is seeking approval for a 13% rate increase. The base, fixed monthly fee will raise from $16.80 to $26.00. So thats $110 more a year before the increases gas prices.

Oh, you think it's because gas is getting more expensive, or just tracking along with inflation? Nope! From the PG article:

"In Peoples’ case, the utility believes 11.25% is an appropriate return for its shareholders. Without the increase, the company has said, its investors would stand to receive only 7.14%."

Only 7.14%! Break out the tiny violins for Peoples' shareholders. This ROI is substantially better than any CD consumers can get, and slightly less than major indexes, but with minimal risk since this is a highly regulated sector. That's why investors park money in companies like Peoples.

Kobalt 48v Tools Restock

Hello,

I was interested in grabbing a new weed-eater. Tested my FIL’s Kobalt 24v and it was excellent. I did need to change batteries a couple times, but that’s fine I have tons of batteries.

Since he wants his back I was gonna grab the 48v to just use 2 batteries at the same time and pause my work less. Unfortunately I see they aren’t being sold. Anyone hear anything about when they may hit the stores again? I need a weed eater so I can’t push it off for too long. Not sure if I should wait or grab the 40v while it’s on sale. Not too keen on that one since the battery isn’t the same as the ones I have already

Beautiful branded gooseneck electric kettle. When I press down on the clear tab to turn it on it goes down, but it doesn’t light up. Water never heats up.

I’m not sure if it’s the kettle or base that’s broke or if it’s fixable. I’ve only had it for 4 months so I’d like to try fixing it.

I do have a multimeter but not sure what to actually test to see whats not reading correctly.
