Bonn matayn! Here's my latest Michif Minute. Tried to put in my personality and humour. I showed it to my own kids and they were trying out the phrases, and laughed at all the right parts. Please let me know what you and your family think!
C’he-p-ski-boo is a frightful character, used to compel children into obedience. Its said to lurk in the forest and just beyond the porch or fire light, where it waits to snatch up wandering children and eat them! In my interpretation, it can take on a benign, almost friendly form in order to lure. When it has the child in its grasp, the C’he-p-ski-boo's true form reveals itself.
This is a pencil test animation for a short I am (hopefully!) going to finish before Halloween.
Finished my first ever pencil test! This is a creature from Métis Folklore, the C'he-p-ski-boo, who functions like a kind of Boogeyman.
Doing this gave me the confidence to do a short...Will be posting updates as it comes together.
This guy!
Adapted from the Louis Riel Institute: Li P'tchi Mound (The Little People) are a mix of Western European beliefs in fairies with Algonquian stories of little people. They are thought to live under rocks and near rivers. In some stories, they are helpful, in others mischievous or even dangerous.
I imagined Li P'tchi Mound as rock-like creatures that have survived undetected because they blend in with the environment. I like how you can still see different personalities in them, depending on their shape and texture. How do you imagine them?
I'm working on my puppet series MICHIF MAKERS and we're planning an episode that involves these little folk.
I'm working on new episodes of MICHIF MAKERS, and trying out new set designs in miniature form before we commit to a full-scale build. This is meant to evoke a crafted look, with 3D, sculpted elements in contrast to the flat elements we used in our first season. Thoughts?
I worked with some community members and language keepers to outline 12 new episodes. Also trying out a new look for our sets: this time going for a crafted look with sculpted elements instead of flat, 2D. What do you think?
This summer, I went on the Drumheller Ghost Tours Walk (it was fun, I recommend). One story that kept coming up was the idea that there are numerous tunnels underneath the downtown of Drumheller.
These tunnels supposedly relate to the mines, and connect various businesses. As a result, they play a part in some fanciful bootlegging and prostitution stories.
I haven't been able to corroborate this anywhere else. Does anyone have more information on these tunnels, and whether or not they truly exist???
That's me, filming with the Bolex Rex5 up on Long Lake in Yellowknife, NWT.
Taanishi all! I am looking to find old/history books collecting Métis folklore and legends. I know that there are several that have come out in the past 20 years, but I'm looking for compilations from the early 20th or late 19th century. Similar to The Orders of the Dreamed, Swampy Cree Legends, or Traditions of the Thompson River Indians of British Columbia.
I know many of these accounts are by non-Indigenous explorers, traders or anthropologists, but they are often the earliest examples of mythologies and stories recorded. Maarsii!
Hiya: I run a small-ish (600 subs) channel focusing on Kids' educational content with my puppet series. I live in Canada where I was very fortunate to get Federal funding to produce our series, but I'm continuing to grow with new programming, and would love to connect with other Kids creators to learn what's working. I don't see much in that space on this sub, so would love to connect via chat. Some things I'd like to chat about:
Happy to share my own insights, like:
Would love to chat with more people working in the kids space on their successes and failures, and more than happy to share my own experience. Thanks!
Was visiting my parents and they still have many of my old things on a book shelf. Pulled this off: the storybook that came with my 3.5" floppy Dos version of King's Quest. Used to love getting little "feelies" like this with physical games.
Started collecting with my nephew and played our first game of 40K. Me (Tyranids) against his Salamanders. By the end of his charge phase, we knew who won. Also great to know how we could have each improved our strategy.
Kept forgetting some of our key unit abilities, but a great start to the game.
Too bad we missed the 4th of July...
Finished base coats on my Canoness. Just getting into WH, coming from painting D&D minis, where my strategy was to slather the whole model in a wash, then drybrush some highlights. Will need to modify my technique so my SoB don't look like they are covered in sh*t.
Shot my little scene with my two cameras (Sony FX3 & FX6) to test out the set...naturally, I didn't nail it on one take.
We had some funding to hire a Set Designer to put together this mini set (we're testing out a few styles to see which one works best for the series). Had it built so that I could *barely* set it up in my garage and shoot some test footage. With all the lighting and framed properly in camera, it turns out pretty good!
I edited all five episodes of our series into a single video for YouTube. Say no to kid's brainrot content and stream high quality shows today!
