Wife's 84

Just picked it up earlier today. 66,500 miles, 4 speed. Paint is shot, needs a little TLC on interior and body, but otherwise a solid car.

She'd been looking for a car to build for autocross after driving my Miata (literally started the evening after the race), but with Miatas being so expensive, she wanted to find something small, lightweight, and cheap. While we were looking for sub-$1,500, this came across and fit the bill at $2,500.

* Light

* Manual

* Rear wheel drive

* Cheap

* Good aftermarket support

Her first upgrade plans are suspension, brakes, wheels and tires.

My gatemarked #8s

Long griddle, skillet, round griddle, and waffle iron. Still on the lookout for a may-not-be-existent gatemarked sauce pot #8.

First track day at Black River Motorsports Park

An absolute blast! Park opened up a few years ago and hadn't gotten a chance to get down there in any reasonable timeframe. Auto cross is a ton of fun! Finally get to open it up legally.

Definitely go to your local track day if you can!

This was Fox

I miss him.

My wife got him from a home in Iowa. There was evidence he was abused by the man in the home. He was 3 months old when he was picked up. He was so good, always walking by our side and not adventuring far even off leash. He played with and cared for the cats, defended his kid from a rambunctious (but playful) larger dog. Always so kind to everyone.

The kind of boxer who would always love unconditionally.

I'm so happy we were able to give him a loving home for nearly 11 years.

He died at 6:30 pm, peacefully.

App to direct to a specific Setting

I'm looking for essentially a shortcut app where I can have it go directly to Display Timeout instead of having to click, scroll, click, scroll.

One press to get directly there. Anything available like this?

Best way to repair a ceiling

Apparently it's been leaking without us being aware. Of course, we opened it to air it out and found that the end support tore through. It's rotted. Is there anything specific I should know before repair? Type of wood used, thickness, etc?

4 y/o Diagnosis

Hi all.

We haven't gotten our daughter in for a diagnosis yet, but we're extremely confident that she has ADHD as she hits many of the markers for ADHD and her mom (my wife) has ADHD as well.

I wouldn't say our kid is struggling with the behaviors and thinking of ADHD, but we certainly are (more so me I would imagine). I've picked up some books to help us gain some tools in how kiddo thinks and how to help her move through ADHD in a way that's beneficial to her. Is there any tools that you can recommend? Specifically for the following:

  • Asks the same question multiple times to us after receiving the answer and she has clearly not listened each time we've given her an answer to a question.

  • A constant amount of talking, talking just to talk.

  • Changing rules to games/pretending so often that there's no consistency and the explanation of the 'rules'/pretend takes quite a long time versus how long playing is.

  • Is nearly incapable of playing by herself or without someone near her.

  • Low frustration tolerance: Definitely has some Sensory Processing Disorder, specifically with how clothing feels. Will also get frustrated if something doesn't work immediately.

There are clearly other examples, but these seem to be the biggest ones that she (us?) are struggling with. We've been overwhelmed and burnt out and haven't really gotten time to think about how to properly deal with the actions and reactions she's exhibited as we've become overstimulated. "We've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas!" insofar as it's new territory and we're looking for some help during the interim of diagnosis. (Medication is right out for us at the moment and certainly not going to be prescribed to someone so young.)

New Miata tag from Push To Start

Ain't much, but it's a nice little touch. Of course, had to get it in gold.

Swappable Battiers

I know that there are batteries which can be found at Amazon for Milwaukee, DeWalt, etc., and there are adapters to use different battery brands on different tools, do we have the same options for Hercules tools and different batteries?

Vollrath #8 Chicken Fryer

Found this Vollrath at a local antique store. IIRC, it was about $50. I haven't been able to find much information on Vollrath dating, but this appears to be from the 1950s to 1960s.

It was pretty grimy, sticky, and definitely not worth cooking in. It took a good week in my electrolysis machine and not all the old seasoning came off, but most did. Do I need three Chicken Fryers? No, but I have three.

Now for the hard part of finding a Vollrath lid.

Blaupunkt Madrid

The Madrid looks as close to period correct as I could find for a good price. Faux CD player and Bluetooth, exactly what I need.

Bonus that the finish matches the tombstone very closely.

Robbins Canvas

Canvas top, panoramic window.

While this wasn't the most difficult install of a part, it certainly was finicky. The directions which come with the top aren't great, pictures don't have needed detail, but overall the install went well. Stretching it was a nightmare by hand, so I was recommended ratchet straps attached to the lower door hinge and bow #2 along with adjusting the latches out.

Right now it'll sit outside in the hot sun, I'll drop it down tighten the latches a bit, then close it to stretch more. Just in time for a Miata vacation next week. Hopefully it'll be stretched out enough that I won't need to bring ratchet straps with. 😂

Newly Acquired Toro CCR Powerlite 38175

Driving home this ol' Toro was set out at the curb for free. I've had one previously and they've been fantastic. Lightweight, strong Tecumseh 2 stroke, good build quality, easy to repair. Even if it doesn't run well, I won't be out too much but maintenance costs.

This one will need a carburetor rebuild kit, new drive belt, plug, and primer bulb.

'04 5.4 Brake Booster Hose

Anyone have a trick to get the 90° brake booster hose on the intake manifold back onto the brake booster pipe? There's not enough room at the top or through the wheel well to get it back on and trying to loosen the nut/bolt for the pipe is unlikely going to happen.

I'd prefer not replacing the OEM pipe and hose with run-of-the-mill hose.

I'm assuming it's a Lodge, but can't find a date of manufacturing. Potentially 1960s or newer?
