Does the wizarding world just not understand the concept of animal cruelty?

The stuff that kids do to animals in the series can be kind of horrifying.

In the fifth book, the students have to vanish mice and then kittens during Transfiguration. Even if this is painless for the mice and kittens, they are effectively killing small animals just because they can.

In the fourth book, when they're turning hedgehogs into pincushions, Professor McGonagall says to a student that his pincushion still curls up in fright when someone approaches it with a pin. This implies that there's a spectrum of incomplete transfiguration and that there's a possibility that a hedgehog can be close enough to a pincushion that it can't move while getting stabbed with pins.

There are other cases of incomplete transfiguration where animals end up deformed. Sure they can be put right, but it has to be so unpleasant for the animal until then.

When an OP asks a question, and all the comments actually answering the question get downvoted.

This happens all the time, typically when someone asks a question about a controversial topic. I may not agree with the people who answer the question, but the purpose of the OP asking the question was to hear from those people.

Edit: I realized I should've given an example. There was an AskReddit thread about a month ago where an OP asked women who slept with married men to share why they did it. The top comments were mostly women saying they wouldn't do that, and the comments from women who were sharing why they had slept with married men were downvoted.

I submitted a data request and then realized that some images I sent years ago had grids. Am I going to get banned?

I just created a data request for an account I've had for years. I then noticed that I've sent photos years ago that have grids on them e.g. a meme with a keyboard, a photo of a window.

I'm worried about my account getting flagged by the process of the app gathering and reviewing all this data. Am I being overly anxious?

YSK: Cats in carriers need to be in the back seat and buckled in when they're in the car.

Why YSK: a lot of people put cat carriers in the front seat and/or don't buckle the carrier in when driving a cat somewhere. Cats can be severely injured or killed if the carrier goes flying when a car stops suddenly and/or if they're in the front seat when an airbag goes off.

Edit: if you don't have your cat in a carrier when they're in the car, you need to start doing that yesterday and follow the above instructions.

Also, yes newer cars have mechanisms that disable the airbag unless a sensor detects an object above a certain weight. However it's still recommended that they be in the back seat because 1) the sensors can malfunction and 2) it's still very risky to have a small animal that close to the windshield.

People who honk at you to go when there's a very obvious obstacle in the way

A few years ago I was driving and I came to a street where there was an ambulance blocking the way while paramedics were working on getting someone onto a stretcher and into the ambulance. The lady in the car behind me kept laying down on the horn the whole time that I was waiting for the paramedics to be done. Even if she couldn't see the paramedics and the patient, she could definitely see the ambulance.

The thing in the movies where people have their own voice after taking Polyjuice Potion is stupid.

It defeats the purpose of taking the potion, and as far as I can tell, there's no plot-relevant reason for this to be the case.

I would like to thank Donald Trump...

For all the credit card rewards I'm getting. I get credit card rewards as a percentage of the amount I spend on gas, and those rewards have just been rolling in lately.

Why is Grantaire in Les Mis considered a principal role?

From what I can tell, he has a similar amount of if not fewer lines than the other students, other than Enjolras and Marius of course.

YSK that when someone goes to the media to describe a bad experience with a healthcare organization or school, the healthcare organization or school is not allowed to tell their side of the story without explicit permission from the person going to the media with the story.

Why YSK: if you see a story in the media about someone having a bad experience with a healthcare organization or school, you should keep in mind that you are almost always hearing one side of the story and that the healthcare organization or school is not able to correct things in the story even if they are outright lies. This is due to HIPAA and FERPA respectively.

EDIT: this applies to people in the US.

Reserved a rental, but the rental place was closed by the time I showed up. Enterprise says online that they charge a no show fee, but they didn't take my card info. Will they come after me for the fee in some way?

A friend of mine found a $300 sailboat that someone is selling locally. Is a sailboat that cheap going to be junk?

They're saying that it's a really good deal, but it's throwing up so many red flags for me. I'm not a boat person at all though.

This show has motivated me to actually fill out patient satisfaction surveys from healthcare visits.

I didn't realize just how much medical admin people care about patient satisfaction scores until I watched the show. I'm happy to contribute more positive scores.

Danny's car

I just rewatched the episode where Danny's car gets totaled and Joey and Jesse get him the twin brother of the car. What kind of car is it, and is it a luxury car of some kind? I'm a little baffled that his insurance gave him $11,700 (equivalent to $34,298 today) for a ten-year-old car. I had an eight-year-old car get totaled a few years ago, and the car insurance didn't give me anything close to $11,700. And that was in a few years ago currency!

What was Salvador Ramos's motive in carrying out the Uvalde school shooting?

On May 24th 2022 18-year-old Salvador Ramos shot and killed 19 children and 2 teachers at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

Prior to going to the school, Ramos shot his grandmother after an argument about how he had not graduated high school. She was critically injured but survived.

Prior to carrying out the school shooting, Ramos sent messages to his girlfriend saying that he was going to shoot his grandmother, that he had shot his grandmother, and that he was going to shoot an elementary school.

When he arrived at the school, he entered two adjoining classrooms. The school had gone on lockdown, but the particular classroom had broken locks. He told the class, "It's time to die" before carrying out a shooting rampage. It was 77 minutes before police breached the classroom and shot him.

Ramos was a former student of Robb Elementary School. People who went to school with him said that he was a quiet person who kept to himself. He had a history of behavioral problems dating back to middle school which included bullying, harassment, confrontations with teachers, and cutting classes. His grandmother said that he was sometimes aggressive. He had dropped out of high school several months before the shooting due to having failing grades in nearly all classes and not being on track to graduate. He had no known mental illnesses or previous criminal history.

Ramos did not leave behind a note or manifesto explaining why he had planned out the shooting. He had bought the guns he used several days prior, so the shooting was clearly planned over time. I've wondered for a while what his motive was.
