Rant: Bad things in your life do not give you the excuse to be an inconsiderate asshole

I am the lowest ranking member in my team as a project manager.

I regularly juggle diverse and complex tasks for a large team without any support other than my own brain. Sometimes I have to ask questions to get the job done and these people either act annoyed or don’t answer me at all/cancel meetings at the last minute.

I’m fed up - I work all day to make these peoples lives easier and they can’t treat me with an ounce of respect.

Colleagues will make excuses such as “well she’s going through a divorce right now” - I don’t fucking care. I have gone through so many rough times on this planet and I still managed to show respect to my colleagues who have been nothing but nice and helpful to me. If I can’t manage for whatever reason, I let them know without leaving them hanging.

As a lowest ranking member of this team in a terrible job market - do you have any suggestions on how to make this improve without getting fired? I’m two seconds from going off on these people.

I feel like a schlub who they think they can walk all over because I’m “nice”, but they don’t know the other side of me. (Work full time from home, so hard to share my entire personality.)

Thanks!

This goober chipped her tooth and has to have it removed

My absolutely bonkers 2 year old girl chipped her front tooth doing typical bonkers things while playing in the woods.

Next Monday it will be removed with surgery.

My vet said this is a typical Labrador accident and I wanted to see if anyone else has gone through this. I don’t give her hard chews or toys, I can’t really control how intense her play style is in nature.

I’m concerned she is already losing a tooth at the age of 2 and don’t want her to lose anymore. Any tips? :)

Thanks

Why is Switzerland purposely downplaying the dangers of this heat wave?

Yes, I’m bitching about the heat again - but I truly do not understand why they are doing this, do they want their population to die?

“Heat in Europe is causing massive excess mortality.

In Europe, 31,800 more people have died since the first heat wave at the end of June than would be statistically expected. This is shown by figures from the European mortality monitoring system Euromomo, which includes 26 countries, as reported by the «NZZ am Sonntag“ writes. Most of the deceased are over 65 years old and come from France, Belgium or Germany.”

In Switzerland, 357 additional deaths have been registered so far. These are preliminary figures. The number of deaths also remained elevated in the second week of July.

Andreas Berger, CEO of the reinsurer Swiss Re, criticizes the inadequate crisis prevention: "The risk of heat waves and the associated deaths has been underestimated," he told the "NZZ am Sonntag." Such a prolonged heat wave is a new phenomenon. "We need to raise awareness of the dangers it poses."”

Why are Uber Eats cyclists accepting orders they can’t complete? Any way to avoid this?

Hi all,

I live in a suburb of a European city that is easy to reach by car or motorcycle, but way too far by bicycle as there isn’t a cycling lane to get here and it is uphill.

Three times in one month I’ve had Uber Eats drivers accept and pick up my order only to realize that it is too far for them to cycle to.

This is very frustrating because Uber will not help, cancel the order and refund me until way past the scheduled delivery time. So I’ve had to go without dinner and that’s not so nice.

Shouldn’t there be some limitations put in place if a driver has a bicycle based upon their location?

These guys have a migrant background and I think they just accept anything they can and are unfamiliar with the area. I don’t think they are doing it so they can score a free meal they can’t deliver.

Is there any way I can avoid this happening again?

Thanks.

Does anyone run hot all the time?

Hi all,

I’ve dealt with anemia for around 10 years due to heavy periods.

I am perimenopausal, but have always ran a bit hot - but now I feel like a furnace and my husband can’t even hug me.

Needless to say, it has made this hot summer I am in unbearable.

Normally anemia causes us sufferers to run cold - was just seeing if anyone else experiences the opposite as I do.

Perhaps I’m thinking too much into it, but I received my latest iron infusion 5 days ago and today is the first day I’m not ready to faint from the heat.

Thanks!

This heat wave is relentless…

Just a vent post…

I just checked the weather report and it will remain in the 30’s for at least another week.

I suffer from heat exhaustion and my life is literally paused during these heat waves. I go into survival mode and honestly l had an emotional breakdown last night because my body had reached its limit.

Yesterday I had to run some errands early in the morning and I came home looking like I had gone through war in the tropics and had to rest for the remainder of the day.

I have begun my work at 5:30 AM this week when it is cooler and I am still sweating buckets during this time.

I am in my 40’s but otherwise healthy minus the heat intolerance, please make sure you check in on your loved ones / older family members to make sure they are doing OK.

I see so many old people out and about still and they really should stay home if they can. I also worry about construction / outdoor / restaurant workers and am concerned how they can handle this. I hope some changes will be made before next Summer.

Strong smell of smoke towards Laufen? (Past Dornach)

Hi all, we had our windows cracked open and it smells like a bon fire in our home. (Not like a grill, cigarettes or fireworks)

We stepped outside and the smell is very strong, but we don’t see any smoke.

I don’t see anything in the news, but just wanted to check as it is so dry here & I hope there isn’t a fire in nature.

Thanks

Theresa (David’s mom) having free rein of the ER? Is this realistic at all?

Hi all,

Just started this fantastic show…but this Theresa plot is starting to annoy me.

It seems like the entire hospital is strained on resources and this woman is just allowed to stay there for a prolonged period of time and have free access to Robby in between serious life and death situations as much as she wants?

I live outside of the US in a place where hospitals are a lot more chill than back home and they would literally send her on her way home without a thought. I don’t even think the police would get seriously involved.

Just finding this part of the plot to not make sense at all in an otherwise rather perfect show…that and forcing herself to become ill to get help? The kid goes to school, couldn’t she have found better ways while he was there unless he had her under lock and key like that girl who was being potentially sex trafficked?

My life just goes into survival mode during heat waves, so tired of this shit!

Hi ladies,

I just feel like venting.

I am a Texan living in West Europe and we are going through yet another heat wave as of today. It is currently 7:00 PM and 96F.

We have little to no air conditioning in my country (Switzerland) and the portable one I have barely works. If I want to get a better one, I have to ask permission from the government and the owner of my building - but who has the energy? Especially in another fucking language and where people still live in the dinosaur ages when it comes to technology.

I am going through perimenopause and have MCAS and people can literally feel the heat radiating off my body. My husband can’t even hug me during this time…

The last heat wave my body just shut down and I genuinely felt like I was drifting away and slept for 3 days in extreme sweats. I honestly thought to go to the hospital but there is no air conditioning there and doctors live in 1900 and say fans aren’t even allowed because “they are germ spreaders”.

I don’t know what to say other than I’m fucking tired of this shit. Whenever it gets cooler, my body is happy & can finally relax but all I can do is sleep/recalibrate.

We moved homes during the first heat wave in May and I’ve barely been able to get the house together and hold down a job. Someday I will be able to do things other than survive. My entire day revolves around getting shit done before it gets too hot.

After 46 years on planet earth, dealing with lifelong asthma, auto immune issues and other crap - I finally understand that health is wealth. I don’t know how other people in worse health are able to survive this.

Thanks for listening to my rant…

Is it OK to take a Coop shopping cart home if I immediately return it?

Hi all,

I’m new in my small village.

The post man took my packages to the post office which are located in the Coop. (Not sure why as a signature wasn’t required and no import fees are due.)

They are large boxes and weigh around 16kg each…therefore I thought I could use the shopping cart to quickly bring them home. (I live a 3 minute walk away & do not have a car.)

Since I will have to walk along the main road past the Gemeinde, I just want to make sure that is an OK thing to do. I will of course immediately return it and it will be on the nice clean sidewalk the entire time.

Thanks!

Edit: I am not going to ask an employee as they are likely not allowed to say yes. I don’t want anyone to get in trouble. This was more “is it culturally acceptable” query…some of you need to lighten up.

Just binged this show in two days…can’t believe I slept on this one.

Just a few thoughts:

- It started silly & I didn’t really like any of the characters, but boy did that change, even Detective Donoghue became endearing.

- I have the most sympathy for Carol, she has a hard road ahead of her and it looks like it has always been rather hard. Seeing her humanity & learning more of her story later in the season genuinely changed my perspective about her entire character.

- I’m glad I didn’t have kids, bless the parents who deal with children like Richard, I don’t think I could and find it hard having empathy for him even though I should.

- I don’t think I’ve seen middle age suicide covered so well in fiction before, where hope just runs out and you are too tired to keep trying and you only see things getting worse.

- David Harbour deserves all the awards and it’s a pity his real life struggles (that we will never know the full picture of) overshadowed this performance.

- Can we get an entire Jodie Plumb defective series please?

- I might be thinking about the end for weeks…Floyd deserved the same kind of kindness towards himself as he easily gave to others. He was stupidly self destructive and selfish, but he didn’t deserve his end & neither did his family and best friend.

- I felt even though Clark could easily tell their story, he didn’t seem as devastated as he should be. Nor about him being on potential death row and having his life blown apart. Why do you think he behaved this way or am I thinking too much into it? He was willing to do gay sex acts just to make his friend feel better. Or was that all because he was lonely? Still processing his piece of the story.

How do you deal with hormonal and hot weather related swelling?

Hi there,

Currently suffering from the Summer long heat wave here in Europe where we don’t have proper air conditioning.

Since perimenopause began, I’ve dealt with terrible hormonal type swelling and the heat makes it loads worse. To describe it, I kind of have that postpartum look but I am not postpartum…

I’ve had the thyroid & various organ tests, it just seems to be my main symptom. My doctor has given me water pills, but in this heat and with all of my sweating, I don’t think it is a good idea to take them even with my electrolytes.

I don’t eat a lot of sodium & HRT seems to make the swelling worse along with my PMDD.

Has anyone found a good therapy for water retention / hormonal swelling? It’s at the point where I am just so uncomfortable.

Many thanks

Motorcycle noise - are the new road noise laws enforced at all?

I grew up in an area famous for motorcycles & I believe people should have some fun on the weekend…but after moving to the “quiet” countryside, nearly every weekend is a non-stop parade of noisy motorbikes.

As of 2025, there seems to be a legal effort to stop this:

“Anyone now caught making avoidable vehicle noise risks fines as high as CHF 10,000. In addition, small infractions, such as leaving the motor running unnecessarily, can result in fines of CHF 80. These existed before 1 January 2025 but were CHF 60.”

Yet it doesn’t seem like that is happening at all?

Does anyone have any feedback on this?

While I can deal with it, I think of wildlife or families with young children and how disturbing it must be for them. Sometimes you can feel the sound it is so loud…

Is this a normal sized crowd now for the Basel Airport bus?

Just moved back after 7 years away - I know it’s Summer and Art Basel, but is this the normal sized crowd for the bus to the airport? Because I’m getting a taxi going forwards if so. Good lord, that poor bus driver.

What has been your most unexpected neurotic improvement since diagnosis?

I have only been diagnosed & began treatment in my 40’s.

My entire life, my food has to be very hot in order to enjoy it. I’ve annoyed my entire family by reheating it several times while eating or refused to eat takeaway that arrives home cold (like french fries).

I didn’t even notice the change until my husband pointed it out and it made me laugh.

How about you?

Moved to a small village, how the fuck am I going to throw away my paper/cardboard?

Hi all,

I’ve moved to a small village 15 minutes outside of Basel.

The train station is a 2 minute walk and the Coop is 5 minutes.

I am breaking down my moving boxes and I’ve looked up on which days paper is picked up only to learn it is never picked up.

The local trash center is only open 4 hours per week and it is 3km uphill away.

I don’t have a license and don’t have a car, how the fuck am I going to get rid of all these boxes and my paper waste in the future?

I bought 110L trash bags and it specifically states on there that we are not allowed to throw “Altpapier” away on them (along with other things including glass bottles).

I am a bit surprised by this and am just looking for help…thanks.

Are church bells at 6 AM normal?

Yes, another church bell post - after 14 years in Switzerland, I am tired of seeing them myself.

I actually don’t mind the bells - but I’ve always lived in the cities and the earliest the long ringing songs have started is 7 AM. I’ve moved to a village in the countryside and every morning at 6 AM, the bells will ring for 5 minutes - even on Sundays.

Is 6 AM a normal time? I thought 7 AM is the earliest one can start making noise in Switzerland?

This kind of sucks.

Does it really cool you down?

I live in Europe where we don’t have central air conditioning.

Does the device work to properly cool you down even if you don’t have air conditioning?

Thanks
