I created some visual character sheets

I wanted to make a visual representation of my crew sheets, that can then be filled in, rather than just a number that has to be changed. I finished my first 2 sessions with them recently (stories coming soon!) and wanted to share! I have them as SVG files created in inkscape as well, but I am not sure how to share those here.

Each is a PNG, and I printed them on cardstock in Microsoft Word, 4 to a page. This worked great for keeping them a good size, and readable from across the table. Oh and I added a JPG so you can read them on a black background, but I wouldn't use that file because I don't think it will scale as well.

I tried to design them so the defaults were filled in, but forgot that Engineers start with 2 toughness, so they get a special sheet! Haha. Plus this makes their squishiness stand out. Each track *should* only allow for the default maximum of each stat.

The stats are in order, but in case the symbols don't make sense: Reaction, Speed, Combat, Toughness, Savvy. The right side is an XP track and a Luck box.

Let me know what you think! They worked well for me, but I am open to constructive criticism and may iterate the designs.

XCOM Miniatures Game 3/3

Operation 003 - Vengeful Stiletto

"Commander, we're headed to the southeastern United States for our next mission. The aliens have targeted Atlanta for a strange experiment. They aren't deploying normal troops, but we've heard reports of dead men walking. Seems they've gotten ideas from some of our TV programs. Get down there and take these zombies out! All civilians have already evacuated the area, so any contacts are strictly kill-on-sight. Good luck."

[This is my final writeup for the XCOM Miniatures Game playtest! I'll be back with more if they send me more things to test, or maybe when the game launches! Until then, I'm starting my first campaign of *Five Parsecs from Home* and will be posting similar writeups of the adventures of John "Central" Bradford as he is sucked into an alternate universe. Look for them on r/5Parsecs ]

XCOM Miniatures game 2/3

Operation 002: Total Estoc

"Commander, the aliens are invading a theme park floating off the coast of North America. They're targeting civilians and causing an all out panic! Get down there and stop them by any means necessary. Avoid civilian casualties, and be aware that these civilians are in cosplay so don't mistake them for aliens! Central out. "

XCOM Miniatures playtest 1/3

[this is the first of 3 write-ups I'll be posting from my playtest of the XCOM miniatures game! It's very fun and captures the feeling of the video game quite well. Enjoy!]

Operation 001: Decisive Cutlass

"Commander, the enemy has been spotted near an industrial plant in Western Asia, so that's where we're headed first. Our primary objective is to eliminate all hostiles. Additionally, the Council has heard rumors of alien biological materials on-site, and they've asked us to secure the location to allow for retrieval. There may be civilians in the AO, and while their safety is important, that is a secondary objective.

Secure the area, eliminate all hostiles, and do your best to bring everyone back alive. This may be our first mission, but it won't be our last. Bradford out."

Help me name my first crew!

Hello friends! I am soon to embark on my first journey. But my crew members need names! Right now I've only named Captain John "Central" Bradford. The rest of the crew is as follows:

A bot who pulled Bradford into service, as his ship needed a captain. Sort of a resistance fighter type, I'm thinking HK-47 but less murdery.

A genetically modified male Swift, which resulted in much larger size but no wings. So instead he uses a jetpack. Grew up in a megacity gang, and sails the black looking for freedom.

A male Engineer, he has spent decades serving on a deep space exploration vessel - but something went wrong and now he's trying to escape.

A female human from an alien world, she grew up subjugated by technologically advanced aliens. She was able to negotiate passage off world, and seeks technology that will help her people survive.

A female human bureaucrat who accidentally got ahold of files intended for blackmail. When she reached out to the parties, they assumed she meant to use said files, and attacked her home. Now she seeks revenge.

Wild/Weird West setting

I'm brand new to this system, still prepping my first 5 Parsecs game (while finishing up an XCOM playtest). But I'm a huge fan of Weird West, so I got to thinking about using it as a setting for a 5 game. Maybe it can be called "5 Miles from the West" or "5 Acres from the Farm" (I know an acre is a unit of area, not distance, but still!).

Anyone got any better names? Or possible ideas, although it's totally just a thought child right now.

Just moved and reorganized my collection after adding Season 1... Love it!

Finally finished printing character boxes for the new ones, and I'm so pleased with how this setup looks and plays. Will probably reprint some of the rougher ones eventually, but most of the rough ones are only bad on one edge.

Holders are from Etsy Here, and the character boxes are on MakerWorld Here (were also on Etsy, but I can't find them there right now). I modified the character boxes by adding names in unique fonts and adding a third row to the back shelf of the play area that will hold dials.

I'm designing token holders for DTA that will fit in this system too, although I doubt it will work for the cards.

Edit: I posted a comment below with images from the inside of the character boxes!

Transparency as overlay for printed paper sheets?

Hello friends! I recently got some solo Print and Play adventure games, and have yet to print them. I came up with the idea to print single copies of everything, then use transparent sheets (like ones used for overhead projectors) to write on them with wet erase markers, so I can play over and over without printing new sheets all the time. I was also thinking about 3d printing some edge pieces to hold the transparent sheet and paper sheet together so it's easier to move around.

I was wondering if anyone has tried something like this, and had any tips. I feel like it would work well, but I am new to the worlds of PnP and solo gaming.

Title. I found the most perfect base island and am building there, but there's a boar spawn right in prime real estate. My NIMBY pirates can't abide that. I tried burying it in blocks, which doesn't prevent spawning of boars or sweet potatoes. I actually tried to incorporate it into a seedy tavern, but there are still annoying aspects thereto.
