Husband issues, of course

SOOOO…. My husband insists I need to work because he doesn’t make enough to live off one income. I told him this would happen like 2 years ago when I was pregnant and he should hunt for a higher paying job. I ended up having to quite mine after maternity leave because I made as much as childcare cost. Has he made any effort on this front? No. Of course not. He’s been in this industry for over a decade and I’ve worked like 2 years in it for reference to later in the story. I tried working on his off days but he…. Was so… incompetent. He would just dump the breastmilk and waste it. He now just tosses her food away if she doesn’t eat it instantly. I landed a job that basically doubles our income and all he’s interested about is money. He doesn’t take getting her ready in the morning for daycare seriously. He falls asleep when he’s supposed to be watching her when I do chores on the weekend that I cannot get done with her on my back during the week. The baby doesn’t ever want him for naps or bed and when I try to make him try so I can complete what I’m doing he turns in like ms. Rachel or Sesame Street (she’s 17 months old). He is getting worse and worse at helping with any thing. Like we own a home and does like none of the traditional male or female jobs around the home. I have to do the softenersalt. Build the structures for the garden beds, change the HVAC filters, take care of the dog, the cleaning, the cooking, grocery shopping (because he now just calls and needs me to hold his hand to get through it). Like I’m about to go INSANE. I feel like he’s doing it on purpose and whines that we don’t spend enough time together. So then I try to literally just hang out and chat with him after the baby is in bed and he throws a tantrum because that’s NOT the kind of hanging out he wanted. Like I asked if he would take me on a date when my parents are in town next month for a week and he said “why”….. he can’t even go out an dig a hole without freaking out about bugs and braking a pot smashing it with the shovel…. I’m trying SO hard to not lose my shiz on him because the baby is always watching and we don’t really have an option for alternative childcare. Plus whenever I talk to him he turns into a sniveling little toddler and gets defensive, throws tantrums, and gets self deprecating. I did get him to go to therapy which he rage quit because he didn’t believe he needs it and tells me it’s toxic I keep bringing it up. He told me I wasn’t doing my wifely duties a couple of weeks ago. I’m really concerned that if we get divorced I will either; A. Lose custody of my kid because I would have to move out of state to be near family and in a lower cost of living area. And B. I’d be worried if he did have 50/50 custody (which is what our area mainly does unless the child’s safety is in question) of her he wouldn’t be able to handle her. I’m really lost. Do I tolerate it another year or so and pay off some debt and save some money and then file and hope she’s okay when she’s at home with him? I know he won’t be able to handle her when sick solo he’s too oblivious and when I was legit struggling to breath and almost called an ambulance for myself last winter he had the audacity to say “it’s so hard to tell if you’re actually sick”. That was the second time ever in the ER in my entire 34 years of life. Or do I say let’s divorce now with no job, plan, or place to go so I can be free sooner? To be fair there’s a lot going on in his family that I’m sure is tanking his spirit, but he can have such a quick and nasty temper sometimes over the stupidest stuff like not fixing his car keys. I’m just so tired and I know financially being a single parent will be a a lot harder but I think our home life will be easier. No more piles of stuff he can find to take out but has no clue where to put back. No more bad attitude or wasting my time pretending to do something for way too flipping long than making me just do it. I’m just so tired.

So my husband recently started turning our towels bright yellow after showering.

I swear I didn’t clean up turmeric and this blue hand towel was spotless two days ago! Anyone know why my husband’s towels are like this? He is a thorough showerer so I don’t think he’s not scrubbing himself. He’s in his mid thirties.

Update: I cross posted think it’s from the tomato plants lol!

My husband is turning our towels bright yellow!

This is a pretty recent thing, but it’s like BRIGHT yellow and seems to be getting worse. I have a cleaner to get it out and I just soak them with my toddlers clothes, it’s just so weird though!

Update: I think culprit likelihood is

  1. The tomato plants. I guess he did touch them last night!
  2. Increased vitamin B intake.
  3. Medical issue such as diabetes/liver which we will get checked.

Thanks to the MVP’s who gave real answers, you know who you are I’m sure based on your how guesses align or my responses to you.

No it’s not poop, cum, or pee. Clearly some of you have some issues to work out in your homes.

Update 2: I tested this by going and getting up in the tomato plants and then washing up and using the towel. I’d say this is 99.9% the reason why!

I got all the stains out by spraying down with my Molly sudds stain remover and then doing a, well it was supposed to be 3 hour soak with a little hand washing but it ended up being like 6 because I forgot about it with my Mollys sudds oxygen white’s brightener. I did like 3 minutes with some had washing and spot targeting rinses, ran it through my washer with my laundry detergent (also Mollys sudds) and the stains are gone and it got a whitening boost!

Man I used to soak my towels every couple months to keep the build up off of them and I haven’t been doing that lately so that water was dingey! That’s going on my list of things to do this weekend lol.

I just had a revelation

For you millennial moms who had to deal with that “everyone loves Hollister” phase and the shirts were so low they went under your boobs, I think they were made for women who had babies because I could totally rock that neckline after 15 months of breastfeeding lol.

My husband chose his comfort over mine, again

We just got back from an out of state family visit that didn’t leave room for me to shower due to a baby with toddler energy. So I wanted a quick shower when we got home but instead of showering while I was putting the baby down he dozed off. Well he woke up when I was back up and went to take his slow af shower. Well he got done and came and sat by me on the couch because I was just chilling and waiting and the baby wakes up and is stirring so I go cuddle her back to sleep. I did make the comment “well I guess at least I’m tired” indicating I guess I could go to bed. We he goes and camps out in the bathroom that has the only shower/bath in the house and takes care of his “needs” because I was too “tired and busy”. I seriously just want to lop that thing off so he stops swinging it at me and ruining my brief opportunities to do stuff like shower. He’s so obnoxiously whiny in the mornings, like a 3 year old who gets woken up too early. He cuts me off whenever I’m excited about something and tries to “fill in the blank” in a condescending manner. All I know is that I’m getting closer and closer to divorce and he is ignoring my trying to talk to him about this and more going on and he doesn’t hear me, he seems to think we are good. I recommended couples counseling in January and he’s only come around to the idea now, but I think we hit the too little too late.

Angry bumblebees holding my front door hostage.

I have a mating pair of fuzzy bumblebees living under my porch (cement square) and they all of a sudden decided today they ruled the outside with an iron fist and stung me (this morning while watering plants) and my daughter this evening. I’m hoping to get them relocated and not have to trap them with some dumped gravel in the crack between the step and the sidewalk. I’m near the Madison WI area. Anyone know anyone who can help or have tips? I really don’t want to kill them because they were our sweet little neighbors until today (I realize they are probably protecting and active nest now) and I’d like them to be able to live their lives and continue their business while also being able to just walk to my car and water plants/harvest the goodies from it (and flick those Japanese beetles off). My husband is now going outside with a fly swatter whenever stepping out the door 🤦‍♀️.

Bumblebee relocation

Hello! I’m just wondering if there is anyone able to do bumblebee relocation (the fuzzy kind). They are living under our front porch step and have stung both me and my daughter today she was outside eating her dinner and mine was while watering the garden this morning. They haven’t been an issue until today. I’d like them relocated because I don’t want to kill bees and we need to be able to use our door and do general activities outside without fear of being stung. Please send recommendations!

I lost my car keys

This is a long shot but I lost my car keys sometime on Thursday or Friday. Tiredness and brain fog is leaving me clueless on if mine or my husband’s keys were used at various times throughout either day. I was in Oregon at a tots park, Bures Berry patch, and havens petting farm (I didn’t go in the corn pit thankfully!) between Thursday and Friday.

They have a Subaru key, worn blue carabiner, and a black and grey monkey hand (it’s a woven protection thing around a fully covered marble at the end) with a bunch of various smaller keys It’s not the smallest key ring but I would LOVE them back if anyone happened upon them!

Please DM me if you found them 🙏

AITA for saying no to a family vacation?

So here’s the deal…

My husband’s parents and family started a group chat about a potential vacation next year and I wasn’t included in the chat.

They want to go to a southern state in late spring (I’m not saying exactly just incase they read this sub) for a family vacation. My husband’s family are Latino and I am a very pale white person from the north so my instant first thoughts were “humidity, heat, sunburn” and definitely cringed at the thought of being stuck inside while everyone else enjoyed hours at the beach and doing various fun outdoors activities.

Then after a little research I expressed my concern about it not being a toddler friendly area (multiple kids attending under aged five) and then to find out their plan is just to hangout at the house…

Firstly: I don’t believe in wasting money on paying thousands of dollars to go sit in a house somewhere else. I pay a mortgage and can do that at home, with all my stuff and my sanity intact of not doing big travel with a toddler.

Secondly: I personally will not find a house full of bored and whining very tiny humans (aged 6mo to 5 years) relaxing whatsoever. Most the kid friendly activities available are for like 6-8 years and up. I highly doubt the hike is baby proofed and chemicals locked in safe cabinets.

Thirdly: We live in a different state than both our families so the drive is longer, we’d have to either get a dog sitter for our dog or add an additional 20 hours to an already 40 hour long round trip road trip to drop her off with my family with a 2 year old in tow. Or we pay the extra money fly, and have to buy a third seat, to save time in the car with a super active and impatient kiddo.

And lastly: we bought a house at the end of last year after just having a baby and being forced to move down to one income because daycare would take 100% of my paycheck and are really struggling just to keep up with bills right now. I did a rough calculation and it would be about $5000-7000 based on which route was taken.

I personally don’t want my child’s first real vacation to be spent cooped up in a house, camped in front of a TV so the adults can “have some peace”. I tried to see if they would be willing to go somewhere else but they didn’t seem open to discussing alternatives that would be more small child friendly because they had such a great time there back when there were zero kids. Im also a bit nervous I might get all the kids dumped on me, as the only non-drinker in the family, so they can go out drinking. I’m a family oriented person and a people pleaser so I really struggle saying no when people play the family card because I really want my child to have as much quality time with their cousins as possible.

TLDR: AITA for saying no to a family vacation that doesn’t fit my travel style, budget, and isn’t toddler friendly?

Edit: Husband agrees with me on all these points. An added note: he has struggled with alcoholism and tends to slip when he’s around his family in such situations so we try to limit our stays and pick the holidays/reasons we visit wisely.

Edit 2: for those saying “sunscreen”… obviously I know about sunscreen. Seriously I can tell all of those comments are from people who GET tan and don’t have tiny humans. I probably know more about sun protection options than all of you making that comment because zero of you recommended UPF clothing, a common staple for this of us who get burned from the moon. Read the rest of the post, you clearly didn’t.

Edit 3: for those trying to indicate I’m racist towards my in-laws because I pointed out there is a difference in our genetic sun tolerance and this fact that they rarely burn so they don’t factor that thought into the equation was WHY I mentioned it. My tolerance is absolute garbage compared to them despite me being outdoorsy and them not so much.

We need a group of grown adults to help with home maintenance skills!

There are a lot of younger folks who don’t have the technical skills to fix things in their home (like I have no idea how to fix my concrete driveway for example) and it would be really cool if you could hire a retired person who has the skills to help guide you through learning it. Like less expensive than a handyman because I’d be doing majority of the work and getting the materials and such, they are just there to give you advice and make sure you done screw up. So uh, if you’re retired or looking for a side gig with friends can you please start a company called “dad’s assist” or something? Honestly I’m sure there’s a market for sewing, baking, cooking , cleaning, gardening as well that could be an off shoot for any retired people with those skills.

Sincerely a first time home buyer whose handy dad lives out of state.

Amish near Madison WI

Just curious if anyone has any pointers on which communities/businesses/people to contact around the Madison WI area (within an hour/hour and half) that could help me build a little shed for my back yard? I know they *do quality work and I’d love to help support their community and their continuing to *pass these skills down through the generations.

Putting free stuff on the curb on marketplace! Why bother driving it to a donation center to make someone pay for something I was willing to give away for free? Let’s cut out the middle man!

I hope you all find wonderfully nifty and useful things curb hunting!

That is all.
