I do not have any AMEX personal cards and I would like to get into their ecosystem even though I do not travel. I’d really like to take advantage of some of their SUBs. As such I really want to avoid making a mistake which would prohibit me from getting a SUB for one card because I got the wrong card first.

I am not even sure how AMEX works in terms of SUBs and if I were to get the Platinum card first that would prohibit me from getting the SUB for the gold card lr some other card. So as you can see I am a total newbie here and any and all advice would be most appreciated.

Just for reference what I was considering doing, to get started, was getting the Blue Cash Preferred card first as I noticed it has a little bit of a boosted SUB right now, $350 instead of the lower $250 SUB. Would that be a possible way to start out with AMEX personal cards?

I am open to any and all advice and suggestions.

Title.. I ask because looking through just the first few pages of this sub I find all these banks I am being told to avoid due to horror stories. Based on this tiny amount of research it seems like every bank is crooked and we should keep our money under our mattresses.

• Never use US Bank.
• I do ACH payments so I cannot use CapitalOne
• I need to use my credit so Synchrony is out
• I have personally experienced problems with fraud, but haven’t we all? So much for PNC
• Fifth Third for the same reason as PNC
• Not allowed to use Regions Bank
• Definitely cannot use Bank of America, I need opened accounts.
• Oh yeah and Navy Federal Credit Union is out also, almost forgot about that post.

Based on just this tiny amount of research, maybe 15 minutes, it seems clear that someone advises not to use every single bank. I am certain if I go back further, there’s not a single bank that someone wouldn’t advise me not to use.
