Record Albums

Do any of you listen to your old records? I have several hundred albums ( mostly what is considered Classic Rock) from many years ago. I long ago got rid of my turntable, receiver, speakers etc… so have not played them in years. However now as I head into retirement thinking about investing in new system to listen to and possibly start collecting records again.

Cell phone plan

What cell phone provider do you use? I have used AT&T forever but thinking of switching as I move towards retirement as AT&T seems so expensive.

Retirement budgeting

As I get closer to retirement, I'm trying to figure out the best way to budget for major home expenses. Things like a roof, A/C unit, water heater, or appliance replacement may not happen for years, but eventually they will.

Do you build those costs into your retirement budget, maintain a separate sinking fund, or just cover them from cash savings when needed?

Just diagnosed

I was just diagnosed with sleep apnea though I’m pretty certain I’ve had it for years but just didn’t want to deal with trying to sleep with a mask. I know now it can cause serious health issues left untreated.

For those of you using a CPAP have you noticed improvements in your health or life as a whole?

Just diagnosed with Severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Took home sleep test with Lofta and was diagnosed with Severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea. Those of you who have done the home sleep study with Lofta did you follow through with getting your equipment and monitoring from them> I have a Resmed AirSense 11 from about 3 years ago that I would like to use. Will they let me use that one and help out with the other things?

Walking outside

I just started walking consistently over the last several months. I much prefer walking outside but have tried walking inside on treadmill during hot weather. What I have found is I really don’t enjoy walking on a treadmill. Feels like work and is not the same relaxing stress reducing feeling I get from walking outside.

Question - how many of you walk outside constantly no matter the weather - hot or cold?

Retirees: How old were you, how much did you have saved, and was it enough?

I'm getting close to retirement and would love to hear some real-world experiences. How old were you when you retired, and roughly how much did you have saved (401k, IRA, pension, investments, etc.)? Looking back, do you feel you retired at the right time? Has your money lasted as expected, and do you feel you had enough saved? If you could do it over again, would you retire earlier, later, or change anything about your plan? Real-life stories are much more helpful than retirement calculators. Thanks for sharing!

Cutting grass vs pool maintenance

Those of you who have a pool and lawn that you maintain- as you get older which one do you find harder and therefore more likely to turnover to someone else first?

Yellow steps

The plaster walls and steps have developed a yellow discoloration, primarily on the steps and shaded areas. My pool cleaning recommend draining the water to bring your chemistry back into a safe, manageable range. They say the cost is $975 which includes a full drain, powerwashing of walls, chlorine bath, filter clean and restart.

I feel like this is too much money and there must be another option rather than draining pool.

Once I get this resolved I believe I will be doing my own maintaining going forward.

What would cause my water to look like this?

I have 40 gallon breeder tank with Fluval FX4 Canister filter. My water went from clear to this in 3 days. Any idea why?

inline UV sterilizer to the FX4

I am thinking of adding this to my fx4 filter setup to keep water cleaner longer. Does anyone have experience with this and is it worthwhile?

Switching to Glasses

I’ve worn contact lenses for about 45 years, and lately I’ve started wondering if I’m just tired of the daily routine of putting them in and taking them out. I know it only takes a minute, but after all these years it still gets old.
I also miss being able to rub my eyes whenever I want. I’ve learned how to do it carefully with contacts in, but it’s just not the same.
For those reasons, and a few others, I’m thinking about switching to wearing glasses full-time (except maybe on weekends). The funny thing is, I’ve never really been a glasses wearer. I’ve only worn them in the evenings after taking my contacts out before bed.
Has anyone else reached this point after wearing contacts for decades? If so, did you make the switch to glasses, and are you glad you did?
