Can someone confirm for me that the Finance Bill of 2026 is in effect?

Our government apparently slashed the Advance Holding Tax on foreign card payments from 5 percent to 0.5 percent to promote the use of official banking channels.

I don't know where else to ask this but has anyone noticed anything in making a foreign purchase?

Could you survive a vivisection?

Like usually Unit 731 would do lethal injections on their victims afterwards and it says getting your skin removed with your organs exposed should kill you anyway but I'm now imagining this scene of a torturer with OCD who sees a victim whose heart is on the left side, gets freaked out and hurriedly rearranges everything to the way it was before.

Damn curious but I can't really ask about surviving a vivisection elsewhere.

Witcher 3 is so depressing after playing through Witcher 1 and 2

Kalkstein's dead, the dopplers dead, mages are being hunted despite having saved them in Witcher 2, Iorveth's gone, Temeria is near beaten, Radovid has gone cuckoo crazy, even the Empire of Nilfgaard doesn't want to keep fighting cause they're getting tired of all the expenditure and Alvin's prophecy of the white frost is coming to pass.

Nothing I did in Witcher 1 mattered. Some things barely made a difference in Witcher 2.

Why do many of the best fantasy novels have graphic rape in them?

Good lord, it's everywhere. Game of Thrones, A court of thorns and roses, Witcher, even the wheel of time has it.

I get that it's a way to make the world feel dark but does it have to be described in much detail?

At what point is a vivisection of a person considered complete while they're able to survive it?

Unit 731 and all the other war criminals would do vivisections on people to see how organs functioned under stress. They were then killed right after via lethal injection

But then that really begs the question could they have survived the vivisection completely?

Edit: I like to dream of stories. I don't know how to write good characters that people hate so I usually have them doing something evil with a twist. Case in point, there was a torturer who had that weird asymmetry problem where seeing things out of place would cause them to physically vomit but the actual vivisection wasn't a problem.

So he was assigned to figure something out, did a vivisection, got annoyed at seeing the main characters heart be on the other side and just closed it up after making the required observations before going to the bathroom to vomit.

How do I write mood whiplash well?

I've been told by my beta readers that this is a frequent problem in all of my stories where I change the tone at a moments notice.

One scene, I'll be talking about the horrors of war and the next some moron comes in who lives to kill and shows up to the battlefield in pajamas.

One scene will have a man make a necklace of teeth and ears and the next will have him describe how to bake an apple pie. I like juxtapositions in series where it's not clear if the story is always dark or right. There's always gonna be a bit of both somewhere in the world but I get the feeling that can ruin the momentum of a setting.

Should I buy Baldur's Gate 3 or Kingdom come deliverance 2 royal edition?

In this steam summer sale, I can only get one, I got 24 dollars and I don't want to spend more than that. I played the base game of Kingdom come deliverance 2 when it came out and my computer was struggling to handle it. Somehow, I beat two playthroughs on it but unlike KCD1, I was never tempted to do a new playthrough until the dlcs came along.

I'm told the dlcs are integrated well into the main game but I don't want to buy them individually and I like the feeling of getting achievements (didn't get the steam version of KCD2) so it's really for achievement hunting that I want it.

Baldurs Gate 3, I played to an extent before on tactician mode but there were fights that I found so difficult as someone generally new to crpgs that I had to lower the difficulty and that really killed the fun out of it. Lately though, I've been watching clips of OP builds and I'm very curious to try them out. Also achievement hunting.

I didn't like divinity original sin 2 but that might have just been personal bias at the lack of full frontal facial dialogue scenes.

Both have their pros and cons but I can only get on this summer sale.

Morality of Lex Luthor disassembling a sapient robot

Tornado wasn't even doing anything, he's basically getting tortured but he can't feel pain so it's more annoying to him than anything else? It's kind of hard for me to say

Alan Grant is such a beast in the first book

Survives getting hit by a Tyrannosaurus Rex.

Engages the local wildlife to uncover their habits.

Manages to outmaneuver the t rex on a boat while actively pursued by it.

Evades the flying dinosaurs.

Kills three raptors solo.

Voluntarily goes after the raptor nests despite more of those creatures being there.

I get that the big t rex was more cinematic in the movie but damn it, I now want to see Grant backstabbing a velociraptor with a syringe.

If I apply for a PhD with multiple professors, would they mind?

I'm going through the papers of Dr Katrin which looks like a good fit but her department is a pure wet lab when I want to work in a dry lab. So I was also gonna email a different professor when it occurred to me that these people probably know each other.

Would they get suspicious at "this student just applied to my friend, clearly he's indecisive and not worth our time and effort for allocation?"

I have reached the end of act 2 on honor mode and lost

This is really more of a vent than anything else. I was a level 10 paladin with 1 in cleric of Selune to romance Shadowheart, Shadowheart was a level 10 life cleric, Wyll was a level 10 hexblade and Gale was a level 10 evocation wizard.

I brought in four black powder barrels and talked down Ketheric, thinking I can breeze past the boss. Well, I didn't account for positioning. The mind flayers stunned me, the barrels hurt my party quite a bit and divine intervention was easily blocked.

And so my honor mode has ended.

Worst part is, I'm stuck on this save. Even on a custom honor mode, this fight is going to be hard as hell so I just feel like making a new playthrough and starting over. I feel a bit empty on this one now

[The Dark Knight] What if one of the boats had blown the other up?

The Joker traps two groups of citizens on separate boats—one full of civilians, the other full of prison inmates. Each boat is given the detonator to blow up the other boat; if neither acts by midnight, both explode.

In this scenario, if one of the boats had blown the other up, which group would have been more morally justified to do so?

Is applying elsewhere better with Nust email or normal email?

I applied to the Karwan e hunar paid internship at sines cause I thought they would understand an MS Nust student joining but it's been a week so I should be prepared for a rejection.

I intend on applying for PhDs abroad so would it matter to the professors I could email that my email has Nust it or it's not so well known globally that it matters?

(I hope this flair means that I want advice) Applying to a PhD but Masters Thesis hasn't started yet

When I finished my second semester, our next gen Sequencing teacher told us that we should apply for a PhD a year in advance. Right now, some applications are open for bioinformatics related funding so I figured that I could cold email the professors about my ideas.

But I hear every scholarship requires you to have a masters thesis first so where do I go from here? Unless the acceptance from the professor is enough?
