We All Deserve aGood Start in Life
My first graft, my first summer being a Cactus Dad. At 75, a Granddad, I suppose. 👴
No longer just a consumer.
In fact, nursing the green and growing things is as instructive as our Spicy Patron.
Black widow dining on baby rattlesnake. West Texas oil rig.

Where to find tree-ripened peaches in town?
For peach jam
Coming down from Summerlin Peak, NV in the late afternoon light.
First ascent of the Summerlin Pk. Traverse, up to the first bench, sheep trail to the left to the saddle and summit. 2013.
Big Horn Sheep, Red Rock NCA, S. NV
Near Pine Creek. Let me get so close I could smell him. (OC)
Speaking of Bruce’s Dragon, I’m worried about this guy.
Tip is firm (just the tip!), body is more cardboardy. Ground planted it in the Mojave spring, mostly shade. Potted it when it started to shrivel. Now it’s indoors.
What would you do? 🙏

I had to use the money clip. In 1967, my first job was at Joe’s Oyster Bar in the T-Bird.
“What did you do during the war, daddy?”
Forgive my civilian ignorance, but I’m still trying to sort out my father’s USMC service. These are the docs & fotos Ive been able to gather, but I cant put it together.
Like a lot of vets he never talked much about other than him & his HS buddies were chomping at the bit to fight. The story goes he was on Entiwetok, Marshall Islands but I dont know if he landed or was there to defend that the air base after it was captured. Can “Heavy Artillery” be anti-aircraft? Over 3,000 enemy casualties and a 100-something captured.
Can anybody decipher these or connect the dots? Casual Co? V-12?
I know he got recalled during Korea, but stayed Stateside at MCRD cuz me. Born 1951.
Wish he was still around to ask. Passed at age 93 at home.
My father and oldest son were both Marines. Wish I’d a been.
Thank you, Sirs

Out wandering around on a coolish day in Vegas. Baby crinoids? Coral?
A Septuagenarian’s Long-Term Amanita Report
Septuagenarian here whose journey goes back to the days of LSD sugar cubes.
I’ve consumed a near-daily mug of hot black tea brewed with between 1 and 5 grams of dried, partially decarbed AM over three years now. I find it delicious with cream and agave.
And, lo and behold, I’m still capable of writing this without the aid of AI, seldom DNF the NYT Sat. crossword, and can still differentiate my ass from a hole in the ground. In my world, the Ibotenic acid boogie man is similar to the “you’ll stare at the sun and go blind” old wives tale about LSD back in the 60’s.
I’ve experienced only occasional mild nausea. Once used 5g of A. Pantherina instead of Muscaria by mistake. I went out like a light and shook like a junkie after I woke up, but none the worse for the mistake. Zero hangover ever.
Wonderful for deep refreshing sleep and have somehow obliterated any craving for alcohol I may have once had. Anecdotally, they have been as life changing in subtle ways as DMT has been in outrageous ways.
They are an often misunderstood gift. 🍄
From Tarkanian to the Knights: Vegas Against the World
Ahhh, I just came to bask in all the Vegas hate. We natives thrive on it!
We learned 35 years ago it’s “us against the world” with the Runnin’ Rebels take down by the NCAA. America’s fine with Vegas taking their money, but don’t touch our sacred trophies! 😂
The boys were completely unphased by the Canes home cooking…that Icing call tho!
VgK in 4.
Got the last prime beef ribeye steak yesterday. Don’t recognize the cut.
Never had a ribeye cut like this. It’s a ribeye, right?
