Is TSMWEL a protest song?

I apologize if this has been discussed before. Also, I'd like to note that I'm not from the US so I am on the outside looking in when talking about certain things.

The song is addressed to a disgusting and shady man that, if we take things literally, had a brief affair with the poetic subject/narrator, which left her feeling used and manipulated with his lies.

However, the culminating bridge is deliberately uncommon for describing a fling that you had bigger expectations for:

Were you sent by someone
Who wanted me dead?
Did you sleep with a gun underneath our bed?
Were you writing a book?
Were you a sleeper cell spy?
In 50 years, will all this be declassified?
And you'll confess why you did it
And I'll say, "Good riddance"
'Cause it wasn't sexy once it wasn't forbidden

(..)
And you deserve prison, but you won't get time

In Miss Americana she wrote about American glory fading before her, and chose that song to open each performance of a tour she wanted to go into the history books.

But in TSMWEL she writes about genuine disgust about what she's seeing.

Could she have "obscured" her views on current US leadership by making it kind of a love song - it's just Tay being Tay? While under threats from that same leadership, this is really the best she can do.

Btw, I understand that most people listening to this song understood what it's really about and that I made no new discoveries. I just wanted to propose a discussion of the song in this light, as well as the form of a protest song and how TSMWEL fits into that term.

What are your thoughts?
