Seeking Orthodox advice: struggling with bitterness, insecurity, and especially despair!!
Hello everyone.
I'm a 21 year old Orthodox Christian, and I'm going through a very difficult period spiritually.
For the past few weeks I've barely prayed. I've been struggling with anger, bitterness, lust, discouragement, and despair.
A lot of it comes from my insecurity about my height and a deep fear that I may never get married or have a family, even though that has been a desire in my heart for years.
I also carry a lot of pain from my teenage years. My family went through a difficult divorce, and I spent much of those years isolated, trying to rebuild my life in a new country. Looking back, I feel like I lost years that I can never get back, and I still carry resentment toward my mother for some of the things that happened during that time.
My mother made a comment on my height and q Christian girl I met in uni as well, since my father is tall my mother had this weird expectation that I would be tall like him, since I was a child not just me but I realized she would make comments about some other men's height as well ( weird obsession).
but genetics don't work like that especially when she is short herself, so I'm shorter than my father, and her comments on it weren't nice nor was the girl I met in uni and this has ruined my confidence and self esteem, I couldn't do the things I planned doing this summer such as get a job, write my 2 books, go out with some friends, start swimming, read books etc.... and this trapped me.
I feel a regret over the past, ungratefulness of the present and fear of the future.I remember reading St. John Chrysostom's words that discouragement is one of the devil's greatest traps..., but I can't seem to break free from it, I have this anger toward God and it's been weeks since I prayed, and it's just bootled up inside paralysing me, which drives me to lust and frustration, and despair.
I know Christ has been merciful to me. I have experienced His guidance in my life before, and because of that I know I shouldn't despair. Yet my heart has become hard, and I feel angry with God because my life hasn't turned out the way I hoped.
At the moment I'm in my hometown, and unfortunately I don't have an Orthodox priest I can talk to. In September I'll return to university, where there is an Orthodox parish, and I plan to start attending regularly and ask the priest for guidance.
Until then, I would really appreciate your prayers and any advice from those who have gone through similar struggles with discouragement, bitterness, or despair. And especially since there are some orthodox priests here, I would greatly appreciate your advice. I don't really have Christian friends so I don't have anyone to bring this up to but why not to orthodox Christian on orthodox reddit community haha.
Lord have mercy.
I regret not making friends during highschool and losing the ones I had.
I moved to a new country when I was 16 and many students liked me and wanted to befriend me but I was struggling with a nasty social anxiety so I didn't get close to them, plus my parents had a divorce which made us unstable and had to live in a motel for 8 months,. which ruined my self esteem and destroyed my confidence because of that I lost few friends that I had because my anxiety got so bad I isolated myself, if I try talking to people I sweat, I shake and my body removes me like a robat the next 3 years passed like that and by the end of highschool I didn't make friends nor a group friends no girlfriend nor an ex just pure loneliness.
I got the social anxiety before I moved to this new country, I was in another foreign country before and spend 2 years alone, and the 3 summers in this new country I spent alone and this summer as well, I go to uni and forced myself to socialize and I beat by social anxiety but the friend's I made are in another city where my uni is but in my hometown I'm completely alone and it's eating me up, I tried to reconnect with some friends which worked with few 2 or 3 I'm trying to befriend others but it's rough.
If you are in high school make friends whatever happens force yourself to make friends if you have social anxiety that's how you defeat it. I just wish I took the opportunities I had to date and make friends, I hate myself for it and I have no one to blame but myself.
For the men who never married nor had children who are in their 40s and older, what happened? And why? Any regrets?
reddit.comHow do you stop feeling like you're not enough because of your height?
Hello, I'm a 21-year-old guy uni student, around 173cm (5'8"), and I've never been in a relationship.
Over the past year, I've realized my biggest insecurity is my height, I never was insecure about it before I thought I was average until uni where I met a girl, whom became my friend and we flirted for a few days but then she started being distant and made fun of my height saying you are short, short men are for friends, I thought she was joking so I brushed it off tho she was serious, and my mother made a comment of my height as well unfortunately she is height obsessed woman she is (5'2 btw) while my father is 183cm (6'0 foot) she had this fantasy that I would be tall like him, Logically I know it's not extremely short, but emotionally it affects me a lot.
There is a girl at university I really liked. She's a bit taller than me by 2-3cm , very attractive, and does some modeling. I never got to know her, but the thought of approaching her makes me think, "Why would she ever want a guy shorter than her?" Unfortunately my mother's and that girl's comment tanked my confidence.
The strange part is that socially I actually do well. Once people get to know me, they usually like me, and I've made some great friends at university. I've even had a couple of girls seem interested after getting to know me, (I do have a decent face tho) I live in a country where the average height is 177cm or (5'10)
But when it comes to dating, this insecurity completely takes over. I'm afraid of rejection, but I'm even more afraid of reaching old age and realizing I never even tried because I believed I wasn't enough, this feeling makes me feel I don't deserve love.
I'm a practicing Christian, so hookups aren't what I'm looking for. I'd like a genuine relationship someday.
For anyone who's struggled with feeling "not enough" because of height or another insecurity, how did you overcome it? And for women, has a man's height ever mattered less once you actually got to know him?
I'd really appreciate honest advice.
Men who asked a woman out of their league, how did it turn out? Or if chickened out why?

In your opinion what makes a person a loser? Why?

I like a girl taller than me and I'm not sure whether to make a move or not.
Hi people, I was looking for advice on whether to approach and try to talk to a girl I find attractive the girl is around 175-176cm tall which is 5'9 for the Americans, I'm around 173-174cm which is 5'8-5'8.5, the height difference is 2-3cm difference, but I find myself anxious about it, her height doesn't bother me, I couldn't care less about height ( the sky is the limit) but not sure on her side, and was wondering if I can get some advice, How can I can handle this.
Thanks in advance.
I like someone out of my league not sure what to do, help!
I'm a 21-year-old guy at university and there's a girl in my major that I've had a crush on for a while.
The thing is, I barely know her. We've never really talked. I've just seen her around campus and in lectures. She's very attractive, taller than me, and recently I found out she's starting a modeling career. The more I learn about her, the more I feel like she's completely out of my league.
I also have a height insecurity that has been bothering me for the past few weeks (I'm around 174 cm / 5'8.5"), which has gotten much worse over the past year. ( She is 175-176 cm/ 5'9 and has a lethal face card) Logically I know attraction isn't just about height, but emotionally it's hard not to think that way.
The reason I'm posting is because I had a similar situation in high school. I had a huge crush on a girl for years, never really got to know her, and eventually found out she had been somewhat interested too. By the time I finally made a move, it was too late. That's still one of my biggest regrets.
So my question is:
if you were in my position, would you try to get to know her if you got the chance next year, or would you move on?
I had some flirting here and there with some girls and do have a decent face but not sure with this one.
And if I was to give it a shot it would be in mid September if we end up in the same class since uni is closed here.
Can I grow at the age of 21?
So short back story my father is 6'0 or 183cm and my mom is 5'2 or 157cm, and I'm 174cm or 5'8.5 and, when I was 15.5-16 years old I was 5'7 or 170cm and I only grew 4cm in 5 years which is disappointing but I was wondering if I can get extra 2-3cm if sleep well eat well and exercise well, and if the plates are open.
