What are some of the biggest mistakes new players make?

I'm going to be playing for my first time on Thursday with some buddies of mine and I'm looking out for any common mistakes new players tend to make so I can avoid them.

They can either be ones that actively break the game or ones that are just tips to keep the game fun for a new player!

Deck Building Day 3: Zagorka, Mother of Sanctum

Decklist: https://archidekt.com/decks/25326751/day_3_zagorka_mother_of_sanctum

Welcome back everyone to day three of the series where I make reddit's favorite decks.

Requested by u/trox085 on the last post, [[Zagorka, Mother of Sanctum]] comes from the brand new MBC set and I see them as a new style of temur group hug. Typically, I am not a huge fan of group hug as I usually see it as a way of fighting for second place but... theres enough sauce in here to still win.

The win condition is simple, use the land to make everyone else fight and build up enough lands to either burn your opponents out, or wipe them each with one massive spell!

Notable Cards / Win Conditions
[[Crackle with Power]] is a staple of high mana decks that are able to afford to make X more than 3. With the free lands Zagorka makes you, it will be way easier to cast this late game when everyone is around 20ish life to win

[[Ghyrson Starn, Kelermorph]] makes his way in from 40k and triples most of the burn damage that comes from the deck. Burning landfall triggers makes it so 1 damage quickly ramps to 3 damage against your opponents.

[[Spectrum Sentinel]] is a great card because if your opponents want to gain land free land from Zagorka, you're just going to be stockpiling health for the end game.

With all this paired together, i'm excited to bring a group "hug" commander to a table where I have a chance to win over fighting for second place!

Let me know what to build next! Top Upvoted Comment gets built!

Deck Building Day #1: Ghave, Guru of Spores

Deck List: https://archidekt.com/decks/25257297/day_1_ghave_guru_of_spores

Top comment of the first post wins and Ghave is the first commander built! Never heard of the commander before now but apparently there's a good amount of infinites which is not typically what I go for but... LETS SEE WHAT I COOKED UP.

Notable Cards:
Marketback Walker:
Brigone, Soldier of Meletis
Dyadrine, Synthesis Amalgam
Fertilid

These cards are ones which I realized nobody really added them to the deck but add such interesting ways to ramp/draw in colors that I think usually struggles.

Please let me know what to build tomorrow! Top upvoted gets made!

Deck Building Day #0: What to Build?

I'm going to be starting a series where the top comment decides what decks I should make to play with my friends over TTS. I just started a brand new archidekt and want a fresh start along with making as many unique commander decks as possible.

The question from here is simple, who is commander #1?

Looking for advice to improve my Throwing Through Walls ruling

I like using big creatures, and there's nothing cooler than getting thrown through a wall in my head. I wanted there to be actual rulings I could keep track of so I made these rules. I'm looking for ways to improve them or make them clearer! I hope to see some good advice from the sages here lmao.

Let me know if there is any questions!

Resident Evil 2 (Remake), From a Non-Resident Evil Fan

So I was browsing the steam summer sale and found the bundle for the resident evil games. I had no real experience playing them and barely knew much about it outside of crossovers into other games [DBD, Siege, Etc.] and I saw they were on sale, like 9 games all for 40 bucks so I grabbed it and was told by a friend to start with 2.

I picked Leon to start the story, seeming to be the favorite of the entire series. Got through the gas station, met claire, and immediately ran into a small pet peeve that I grew to love... leon needs to lock the fuck in. He jokes about half the stuff and at first I was thinking he either must have a mental block or he's in shock, but the more he did it the more I realized "Oh... he's just him".

Got to the precinct, met Marvin, and started doing puzzles. I was a little confused before I got the lore entry about how this used to be a museum, but honestly it was great. The only issue I had with map design is I disliked not having a full ring to run around on the upper floors to get from one side to another, it was all C shapes. Petty issues aside I enjoyed it.

Did some quests, got a scepter that I didn't know I would need, got the basement opened up, did some more loops and I WISH THEY EXPLAINED WHY THE BIG MAN IS ALWAYS ON MY ASS. My friend explained it later that I made a mistake throwing a grenade at him and knocking his hat off, not aware that was such a big no no but he put an end to a few of leons many, many lives.

The toughest part of this game to me was the blind zombies... those ones are nasty and an absolute horror for someone who wants to just run past zombies. I persisted and made my way to the underground and met Ada to which before the game, I was under the impression she was a full ally... she did nothing but confuse me a bit.

She saves leon, thats good, she saves leon again, thats even better, leon saves her, great.. but towards the end theres some actions she does that makes me sit there and think... why... didnt she just leave leon to die if this was the plan... also I think her in the dress is a great character design choice to make her stand out, yet it may be possibly the second worse outfit choice, only behind adding a shotgun collar like from saw.

Anyways, sewers time. I liked the alligator, i wish there was more mutated big creatures. The water zombies may be the scariest and most difficult part in this entire game because by the end of the sewers I had a total of 1 flash bang and some blue and red herbs to my name. Ada got injured, I saved her, we need to get the virus.

The lab was nothing of note truly but WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN THE BIG FUCKER IS STILL FOLLOWING ME? I learn his name is Mr. X from my friend after calling him Nemesis constantly on call. Apparently thats for next game.

The labs was fun, I feel the puzzles are dated but I get its a remake so thats probably what was necessary for the time. By the end, I felt no sympathy for the scientist lady (Forgot her name sorry) and when she said Ada was a bounty hunter this clicked to me. Skip forward, leon loses the sample and Ada falls to her death... EXCEPT SHE DOESNT??? HOW??? Whatever, final boss fight later and I escape, getting the achievement for escaping with more than 5 minutes left.

The train lets me leave and Claire is there with a kid. I imagine that the kid is from the orphanage on the pamphlet but I really dont wanna spend another 6 hours unless the story is majorly different.

Overall... resident evil 2 is a strong 8/10! I will definitely continue the series and probably will start 3 tonight!

Edit: Realized I should say im playing the remake, nothing against the old game, I just like modern look of games

Too many campaigns at once!

Before anything I want to say the situation I am in many would find as a "Steak too Juicy, Lobster too Buttery" scenario and I would agree but... It gets annoying.

I run a game for 3 of my friends, call them friend 1, friend 2, and friend 3, and we play every other weekend. Friend 1 runs a game on the weekends I dont, and friends 2 through 5 are a part of it. I feel like the games because of this are running slow and I want to more consistently run games but the issue comes down to current campaigns.

I like my story but I would rather just DM for all 5 friends so we can run weekly.

Is there a way to try and squeeze a third in, or should I just wait.

How should I end a tournament arc

My players are in a magical academy setting. They recently were their school's nominees to compete in the ascension trials, a tournament across all the schools for wealth and more importantly, notoriety.

I'm struggling to find what the best activity to end it would be. It's down to them and one other rival school and Im just looking for a fun team vs team encounter to do (It doesnt need to be combat).

We have done:

- Tests of Intelligence of magic and the world

- A custom sport named Arcball (Imagine a mix of rugby with combat in it)

- Kill the most monsters in the shortest amount of time (Imagine MHA enterance exam)

First Time in-person DMing, whats the best way to have a battlemap?

I have been running this game for my good friends for about 9 months now and we all live 2 hours away so its always been easier to run online with out schedules. Recently we all got new jobs and just so happens our weekends are free and they want to try and run a game IRL. That's great, but there's an issue... I've never ran a game irl before.

I'm so used to the convienence of premade maps and foundryVTT that I haven't needed to think too hard on this before but how do dm's do combat IRL. I know it sounds silly but I dont wanna roll up this Saturday with a dry erase marker and a dream. I want to be prepared

Give me some advice, thank you.

I'm completely new and need some advice on character selection.

I was recently invited to a PF2E game and eagerly accepted however... I don't know the system. I want to learn and play with some buddies who i've played D&D with for years so I drew up some character concepts and was wondering what the players of PF2e think would be the easiest to learn.

My options are:

A chameleon gnome wizard whose goal in life is to try and make the largest spell book ever (I main wizard in dnd so I figured wanting a large spell list is what I typically enjoy).

A gunslinger automaton who wants to be an old style western, using revolving pistols

A human inventor... the class sounded interesting.

So what out of those would be the easiest to learn as a newcomer to the system, but not TTRPGs.
