Life changes in an instant, be grateful for the boring moments.

I’ve always had little events happen that made me think holy cow!

I’ve lost many pets and thought my world was ending. I’ve lost a lot of family members and didn’t know what to do.

Then something changed.

When I was 18, I was watching a movie with my now fiance. I got a sudden pounding headache, convinced myself it was a migraine. Then I started projectile vomiting, and my fiance carried me to the car to bring me to the ER. I had a brain bleed. 6 years later we still don’t know the cause.

I was just about to go to boot camp. I got medically discharged. I was going to take over my grandmas cafe. I now hate working there.

A few years later, my fiance comes into our room and just breaks down. He was finally able to muster the words. “My mom has cancer.”

She died 14 months after the diagnosis.

Life was starting to feel somewhat normal again. Then we found out his dad had cancer. He passed away 5 months later.

A month after his dad passed I found out I was pregnant!

We were over the moon excited!

Pregnancy and labor went well. My child is healthy and beautiful.

My fiance calls me everyday on his way home from work. I get so beyond excited for that phone call. I love talking to him, and it’s reassurance that he didn’t die.

He works a dangerous job, so I get very anxious when he’s working.

Today he calls me, earlier than usual. I figured he was on a break.

Nope.

“Meet me at the hospital.” Is all he said. So I rushed to area where he was working not knowing which hospital or what had happened.

His boss called me, told me which hospital, and what had happened.

One of the saws kicked back and cut his face.

We got home an hour ago, and I am so grateful he is alive. I am so grateful he didn’t lose his eye. I am so grateful my child didn’t lose their father. I am so grateful he got lucky with only stitches, and severe bruising.

He has to see a plastic surgeon for his eye. The hospital he went to isn’t equipped for his injuries. But he came home tonight, part of his face has stitches, the other is bandaged up until we see the surgeon.

Anyway my point of all of this, enjoy the boring moments of life. Enjoy the little things. Life is short, do what makes you happy!

Update: I have 3 dogs, one of them three up in the kitchen, not sure which one. They have worms of some sort.. yay! 🙄

Not sure if this has been posted on here before or not but what do y’all know about Johnnie Clark?

Recently read his book “guns up!” And recommended it to my grandfather who was drafted but the war ended by the time he was done with bootcamp. He read it then told me I should read his other books. Specially “the old corp” and “no better way to die”

Excellent books written by a Vietnam vet, just curious to know if anyone else has read them and their thoughts.

My little brother makes the dumbest choices

Okay so my (24f) little brother(21m) and his fiance (20f) make the dumbest choices.

They have a 3 year old and a 4 month old.

They decided to start trying for their second after I told them I was pregnant with my first.

They were both working at the time my little brother worked full time and she part time. Usually my niece got watched by her maternal grandparents if both parents were working.

After she got pregnant I was slightly annoyed and jealous. Annoyed because they only started trying after I told them I was pregnant, and wanted to have a kid the same age as mine. Jealous because it took 5 years to conceive my daughter and only 2 weeks for them.

Here’s why I’m so annoyed.

She’s now a Sahm and they can’t afford it. Barely scraping by and they are using WIC. I have no issues with them using WIC I think everyone who needs it should be on it, that’s not why I’m annoyed.

Their 3 year old had no boundaries and has unlimited screen time. She was always an amazing little girl, always wanted me to read to her, play outside, and was very talkative. Now since she has unlimited screen time to a very overstimulating kids show. It’s not educational, and she literally watches it all day. She doesn’t want to read with me anymore and hasn’t wanted to for a while. Her vocabulary has greatly stunted, and she acts out all the time.

I have stopped going over there because she hangs on me while I’m holding my child (5 months).I ask her to stop, she asks me “why” so I explain to her she can’t hang on people’s throats, especially when they are holding a baby.

She also has no boundaries with dogs, she had been bitten 3 times now. One resulting in an ER trip that luckily barely missed her eye and didn’t require stitches.

I told them they need to work with her on respecting animals space so she doesn’t get hurt. They instead adopted a dog. She jumps on the dog, stands on him, pulls his ears, etc.

If I’m over when she does any of those I correct her. She asks why and I explain it’s harmful to the dog and she could get hurt. She stops for a little bit then does it again. She’s a toddler so I know she’s going to push boundaries so I just remind her why she shouldn’t do that.

Her parents just laugh it off like no big deal.

Now to the 4 month old who has daily blowouts because they won’t size up diapers. They always buy the big boxes so when they should size up they want to use every last one. Understandable when you’re struggling but this is why you buy the smaller boxes when they start to get a little too small.

So she has been having daily blowouts. She gets almost no tummy time because mom claims she hates it. Which yeah a lot of babies do. Which is why you have to give them entertainment so it makes it a little enjoyable for them. I have given her multiple suggestions including a 10$ play mat.

She(brothers fiance) says well we really can’t afford it right now. Okay understandable but, if you can’t afford a 10$ item for your child WHY ON EARTH DID YOU GET A DOG a large dog mind you.

She’s convinced she can be a good homeschooler but doesn’t know the difference between “excited” and “exited”.

This whole situation drives me bonkers. Anyway thanks for listening to my Ted talk if you made it this far :)

In 2020 I had a spontaneous brain bleed, had to be medically induced. I was 18 at the time. Had to be life flighted for emergency brain surgery. I remember a lot of my coma dreams, and when I mention it in passing with new people I usually get asked a lot of questions.

I found my fiancés dead mom’s suicide note.

Okay so I (24f) was going through our house and found one of my fiancés moms journals. I got super excited, she passed away 3 years ago now to cancer.

I read the journal, it’s from 2001.

The year my fiance was born. Long story short, she had 3 kids one got a girl pregnant when they were like 16/17 and he never stepped up and she ended up adopting him(biological grandson)

She raised him as her own and that’s his mom.

The journal is very brief. A few entries from december 2000 for a few days she was consistently writing. Then the date skips to February 2001, then she writes for a few days then it jumps all the way to march 2002.

The last thing she wrote was a suicide note.

I already told my fiance I found one of her journals, but after reading her suicide note(she did not commit suicide) it’s obviously very depressing.

Do I tell him I accidentally spilled on the journal and had to toss it? Do I let him read it? Do I be vague and just tell him it gets super depressing and he shouldn’t read it? WHAT DO I DO??

UPDATE:

So as I mentioned before I already told him I found the journal, and that I read part of it.

When we were talking I told him that it’s very heavy so if he does want to read it to just be weary that it gets dark.

He asked me for more details and I told him there’s a note written like a suicide note.

He’s glad I read it before he did, in case she wrote about her sex life or something he definitely would not want to read.

He said he’s interested in reading it, no he doesn’t see a therapist, I suggest it, but therapy is a tool.

If you aren’t interested in therapy that tool is useless.

He works very long days (12/13 hour shifts Monday-Friday) so there’s not many options for good therapy near us.

He doesn’t think he needs therapy.

For those saying im not the main character .. yeah I know?

For those saying I should not have read it, well too late now, and honestly I’m really happy I did. I was very close with both of his parents.

It made me feel close to her after 3 years of her being gone. I miss her dearly. His dad passed away last year.

They told me secrets that they have kept for their entire lives. They trusted that I could tell their families if needed or when they were ready. So I feel like she would have no problems with me reading a journal from 20 years ago.

My fiance is on his way home. I will make sure he’s not alone when he reads through it. When/if he does decide to read it.

Bought my in-laws hoarder house

Okay so my fiance(both 24) and I bought his parent’s (60f and 71m) house before they passed. They were what I would call light hoarders.

It’s not obvious until you look around.

They moved to a smaller house, and just decided to keep everything from their old house. Paperwork, artwork, furniture, you name it. I’m slowly and surely chipping away at everything.

We have 3 levels.
The basement is the worst of it, just random clutter from the years. I have found some useful stuff I plan on keeping.

They had a catering business 10+ years ago and I found a shake/malt mixer. And some of the baking stuff I’m keeping. But the rest of it I’m just left staring at it wondering why in the world they kept it.

Today I found paperwork from 1995… 1995!! Nothing important just papers.

We have a big pole shed (40x80 feet) that was filled with random stuff. We found a file cabinet filled with his dad’s ex gf kids stuff from when they were in school. So 40ish years ago

Sir you don’t talk to any of those people why do you have that??

For those wondering why we bought the house, we got a good deal, and we didn’t want his dad living alone for his last couple years. It’s a beautiful property, only one bonehead neighbor.

But the days I’m chipping away at one of the big problem areas (like today) I just sit there wondering why.

So for those who are older or have kids or plan on having kids. Just know it’s not fun looking through all this junk, especially when you find a big tote of porno mags from the 70s 😂

White tail deer

I have this guy around my house. Pretty sure he was hit by a car and that’s why he’s so goofy lucking

I’m guessing he was taken by coyotes or just the elements because I haven’t seen him this year 🥲

Anxious about a possible premonydream

I’ve had premonition dreams in the past, always dumb things. Conversations with people usually. Sometimes things happening.

So a while ago I had a dream my fiance slept in the living room during a storm and a tree fell on the house and crushed him.

Now it’s storming and he usually sleeps in the living room when it storms to help soothe the dogs. It’s been storming the last few days and as I was getting ready for bed I had a flash of the dream. Now I’m anxious and debating on letting him and my dogs sleep in the room.

I don’t let them in our room because they jump on the bed and I’m autistic and very specific about my bed when I’m trying to sleep. And they will wake up my 4 month old daughter.

Anyway I don’t think it’ll actually happen meaning our trees are very healthy strong trees (around our house anyway) mainly just wanted to put this out there to help me get it off my chest so I can go to bed.

I hate the drilling noise.

So in 2020 I had a brain bleed and needed a shunt placed to save my life. They put me in a coma for that part but I could still hear the drill. I remember it so vividly.

I went to the dentist and they had a little electric brush thing to put on fluoride. I HATE that thing. It just brings me back to that damn drill.

In my coma I was dreaming that I was getting sliced by a Laser starting at my toes. Then up to my teeth.

I’ve been putting off the dentist since like 2023 or something near there. Now I have the guts to go after my pregnancy. I’m 4 months pp.

But I have no one I trust to watch my daughter (dad works 12 hour shifts).

So I’m waiting for his next lay off to go. Can I ask them to skip the fluoride? Or any advice I can do to make sure my teeth don’t fall out before then?

I have good dental hygiene I brush and floss, sometimes I miss a day here and there but overall I’m pretty good.

Thumbsucker advice?

Okay so obviously I won’t know how this pans out but I’m wondering what other parents have done.
My 4 month old sucks her thumb alot, I know it’s normal I’m just worried about when she starts getting teeth.
If she continues to suck her thumb when she’s a toddler what have you done to discourage the behavior?
I know it’s totally fine right now I just like having tips and tricks up my sleeve for when I need them.
What has helped your kiddos?

Sweatpants is exactly what I would wear to work .. you’re right.

One time I was at Walmart, wearing sweatpants and some random t shirt. This lady and some younger kid came up to me and she goes ummm excuse me? I wasn’t in her way I was just looking at candles. I look at her and she scoffs and goes where are your beans? Dude idk?? I told her probably on the other side of the store. Where the food is. And she rolled her eyes and said I was rude.

Any tips for starting?

My daughter is 3 almost 4 months and I want to start the EC method when she can sit up more independently. I was planning on getting a small toilet for her and letting her try using it after she wakes up and after she eats. Any other tips/advice I should know?
