What album is this for you?

I’ve been a long time Muse hater and really
enjoyed their new album, so I was wondering other times this has happened for you? I also felt the same way about Halsey’s 2021 album which is probably my favourite pop album of all time at this point despite me hating the rest of her works.

Age of Capricorn is a great subversion of American Evangelism

Recently I’ve been diving a bit deeper into analysis of the album’s themes and I’ve been particularly fascinated by Age of Capricorn because I think it’s such a great subversion of American Evangelism. I’m a huge fan of artists like Lingua Ignota and Ethel Cain who heavily borrow from this aesthetic for their works, and while I think the gothic/dark Americana cult aesthetic is cool, it’s definitely a well trodden path when it comes to this kind of thing and is more of an exacerbation of the kind of darkness that already lurks underneath the surface of a culture that is so dominated by insincerity and a desire for control and prejudice rather than actual belief in their religion.

By using insane conspiracy theories about Obama and clips of televangelists to create Age of Capricorn, in a lot of ways I think that Boards of Canada creating a song that approximates genuine religious euphoria and sincerity using these concepts is more subversive and interesting than a lot of these artists that lean heavily into the gothic/cult side of this culture. Absolutely enamoured with this song overall.

For fans of BCNR and King Krule - my personal 2026 AOTY and an album I think this sub would adore

The album is titled A Mat In The Garden by Photokem and is like BCNR x King Krule with a classical music twist. This is one of the best albums I’ve heard in a long time and they are criminally underrated. They only have 780 monthly listeners and the album only has 38 ratings on RYM but deserves way, way, way more. I just wanted to recommend this album to this sub, because I think you will all love it. Cactus Flower is the best song I’ve heard this year.

How it feels to be a casual fan who hears everything for the first time on streaming so I’m not mad that it doesn’t sound like a leak I’ve been listening to for three months

Album 2: Folk/Kara Jackson/Sibylle Baier/Linda Perhacs
Album 3: Emo/Hardcore
Album 4: Noise rock
Album 5: skramz/screamo
Album 6: Japanese shoegaze
Album 7: Blackgaze/Deafheaven/Sadness
Album 8: Post rock/GYBE/Sigur Ros
Album 9: Emo/Parannoul
Album 10: Emo/Hardcore
Album 11: Jerk trap
Album 12: Electronic/SOPHIE/edIT
Album 13: Prog metal
Album 14: Emo/shoegaze
Album 15: Folk and literally produced by Sufjan Stevens with additional vocals and instrumentation from him, sounds exactly like a follow up to Michigan or Illinois
