So, like many, I was fairly unhappy with the Danone acquisition, AI customer service and subscriptions being sent without warning. Thinking myself an ethical consumer, I went elsewhere for a few months in a mild outrage at what I viewed as enshitification.
I won’t slate other companies by name, but I’ve tried (or in terms of nutrition, heavily researched) all the big meal replacement shake brands. Between macro and micro nutrient density, delivery times (or even ability to actually get a delivery into the UK), price and product range, every one of them failed in at least one area.
To my mind, their really isn’t a viable, full alternative. Huel (the stuff that gets delivered to your door and the process of delivery, not the company) really is an unrivaled product at the top of its game.
So here I am, tail between my legs, awaiting a delivery of Huel black powder which I’m sure will actually come, confident it’s a goldmine of nutrition and happy with the flavour.
Further to title, I’ve contacted support and am waiting for a reply. My question is, is it worth accepting a repair/replacement? I was really let down by not having it working today at a major event. Thankfully I had another camera on hand, but I’d have much preferred to use the camp snap. So is this a one off, or is this a symptom of what it ultimately is, a cheap, unreliable device that is perhaps best avoided/replaced with something similar but more reliable?
When I say total beginner, I mean I’ve not taken more than the odd photo since being given a disposable camera to take to summer camp some 20 years ago.
I saw the camp snaps advertised and they immediately scratched an itch for simple tech that I have at the moment. My wife is the sole photographer in our family and I know she would like me to take more photos, but I hate using my phone to do so. It feels lifeless somehow, as it does in so many other ways. I recently bought a pocket reader as opposed to reading on my phone and my reading has increased 10 fold. The device itself is really part of the experience for me and the more I learn about camp snap, the more I feel I won’t be able to stop taking photos if I had one. Which leads me to the 2 Vs Pro dilemma.
In favour of the 2, I have the centralised view finder, I generally like the photos it produces more (though can’t speak to what, if any filters have been used in said filters), and the price!
In favour of the pro is the word pro, and the higher pixels. From my days of browsing the catalog looking at my first digital camera, pixels were truly King back then. Is that still the case? I intend for my photos to go on my wife’s social media and be printed (I’ll buy a decent photo printer as well) to put in books/journals. For this use case, will I notice the lower pixels of the 2? Or is this an irrelevant spec to me?
Hoping you can help! Cheers.
I often buy the diecast Cars from a local chain toy shop and am shocked that after all these years they’re releasing new ones and still have a lot of shelf space. No Pixar movie (with the exception of Toy Story 5) has anywhere near as much shelf space consistently. I guess theirs just more money in merch than risking another movie, which is a shame.
Is this really what Huel has come to? They used to be so helpful. This has happened before and I got a human agent who was incredibly quick and helpful. This just feels like a total fobbing off.
So we have a George vacuum cleaner, but no room for it aside from down in the office at the bottom of the garden. So whisky it does get used, our stick vacuum is the daily. So I’m thinking about a Henry quick pet, but don’t know if it would actually be an upgrade vs the Shark stick vacuum (it’s the one that empties into the stand) that we currently have.
So my son has been out of school for months now. By no fault of his own, he can’t attend his school. The local authority have got him 1 hour of tuition a week, and put out to tender for 25 hours a week but that’s moving at a snails pace. I’m physically home but frankly, have no capability as a person or time around work to meaningfully do much more than provide a little help. I know this is a sub for home schooling, I assume by choice. But this isn’t by choice. I honestly am wholly incapable of teaching. I’m looking for a short term fix through some independent video learning just to get some structure back in his routine and do what we can regarding “ticking over” with his education. I know, that’s not ideal. I know it’s not how anyone learns best. But until he gets another school or a tutor is put in place for more hours, it’s the best I can do. Please help, I don’t know what to do. All I can find is resources to prop up a parent that can teach. As I say, I work full time, have calls all day and am not a teacher by any stretch of the imagination. Is there anywhere I can buy courses across even just the generic subjects?
His teacher gives him tiny bits of work to do over the week but he rarely does it and as expected, takes advantage of the situation to play games and the likes. I’m really trying to figure something out. I know this may say foreign to this community, but home schooling has never been on my radar. I’ve always known I can’t do it. And yet here I am. It doesn’t have to be a perfect solution, just better. Something he can sit downstairs with me and do largely independently throughout the day. I know that’s rubbish. But it’s all I can hope to do and it’s only short term.
He generally likes learning and is keen to, but without structure, he likes gaming more. Given an inch of freedom or lacking structure, and he’s gaming or watching gaming videos on YouTube. I simply can’t keep an eye on him all day and I don’t know how to put that structure in. I know he can’t be expected to track the curriculum with full solo learning, but I just want something better than nothing.
Been carrying my Victorinox Super Tinker on a pocket clip for a while now. Absolutely fantastic and I largely forget I have it on me.
With that said, I’m conscious that I’m missing a few things. As a Dad to young kids, I’d like to have some plasters and some stickers to help with tantrums and the likes. A few coins, a tiny power bank, a small pry like the niteize doohickey.
I’ve had my eye on a maxpedition Pico but not only are they out of stock everywhere, but I’m wondering if it would be a little too bulky to throw in a jeans front pocket daily. Ideally I’d rather something you open up and have sections like the Pico, rather than one single, zip pouch. Also considering the Viperade VE34 mini.
Thanks!

It suddenly feels so right to me that Vault Dwellers would have a small multi tool issued to them alongside their Pip Boy.
