[October 2nd, 1954] Mark my words, Elvis Presley will never be successful

I'm coming home from one of the most disgraceful performances I've ever had the displeasure to witness.

Elvis Presley has no future as a singer.

This child (he's a year out of high school!) has been permitted to play in small shows throughout the nobel South. As such I was subjected to his foolish prancing so his manager, Sam Phillips (who readers will remember helps produce black music!), can embark on a quixotic quest for mainstream stardom. Speaking of Sam "I play black records" Phillips rumours are abound Elvis is comfortable playing at places that are not just desegregated, but in fact majority black!

Thankfully tonight they only had time for one song. In unpleasant news it was one song to many. The great country singer Hank Snow didn't even introduce Elvis by his name, a fitting sign of things to come.

I'm talking about a makeup wearing, black floppy hair, hip gyrating attempt at getting the crowd sexually aroused with a rhythm heavy playing of Blue Moon of Kentucky. He even sneered at the crowd as he gripped the microphone! Myself and the other elderly practitioners were able to disway the rebellious youth through stonewalling any reaction.

Even after the show I heard of a shouting match between the managers and Elvis over the future of his carrer. But Elvis wants to sing the songs he likes. And that includes fast music in a new style called rock and roll. Though given the rural upbringing of Elvis it's more fitting to call it rockabilly.

Elvis can’t sing, can’t play the guitar, and can’t dance. Yet they want two thousand idiots per show yelp every time he opens his mouth, plucks a guitar string, or shakes his pelvis like any striptease babe in town? I say hell no.

That's why this Elvis Presley will never be successful!

I know it was short but I'm still pissed about how I feel

It's stupid to even write this. We were only together for six months, and broke up two months ago. But it was good for me dammit. I need to just buck up and get over her.

I know I sound like a mopy sissy typing this out but I'm pissed whenever people patronise me about the relationship.

We broke up after our first big fight, which I regret to say was over text. I should have done one hell of a lot more to fight to keep her. Relationship wise this was my first long term successful one after a failed situationship beforehand.

My dad is pretty much out of the picture (if I want advice from the person who taught me how to shave, I'd look in the mirror) and never gave any advice, so all my romantic endeavours have been through my own grit. He's such a stubborn asshole that pushes down all his feelings, which is me. We look identical too, so that's a fun reminder whenever I look at my acne riddled face.

But my mum never hid the fact she didn't like her, because she felt that the girl I was dating was too stupid and unmotivated for me. I'm talking Reddit level "Just break up" advice along with eye rolling. Now she wants me to swear off dating while I put my head down and study.

But I could have made it work. I was too weak to fix the relationship and I should have done a far better job. There were problems but I should have been able to make solutions. Problems like -

My mum never hid the fact she didn't like her

We both had high pressure jobs

She had just bought a horse

Her parents didn't enjoy my company

It was her first proper relationship and my second one

Her family were significantly richer than mine

I'm not exactly the greatest guy to walk the earth, looks wise or anything like that

She lived in the city and I lived in the countryside

We lived an hour away from each other, but she couldn't drive and my mum refused to let me drive to her

The train travel took two hours, the taxi from station to hers in total cost £45

I was at uni, she wasn't

I was terrible at displaying my emotions

I listened way too much to people around me

I mean I solved a lot of these issues (I can drive to her area of the city now, I can talk a lot more, I can help out with the horse, I can ignore the naysayers, my uni course has just finished for the summer and I doubt I'll go back) and genuinely want us to start dating again, but she doesn't want too.

Well kinda, she claims she wants to sort some stuff herself first then think about it but doesn't know how long it will take. Clearly she's blowing me off but I'm too much of a poorly socialised dickhead to know so I've even burned the friendship bridge by being oblivious. So I doubt that will ever happen and I hate it so fucking much.

But want to know what I'm even more sick of? The fucking patronising bullshit I get off of the internet, family and friends.

"For God's sake, you're 20. That's so young!"

"6 months? Bah! I've been married for 10 years."

"I don't know what's so hard about deleting her contact."

"Come to me when you've got real relationship issues."

"She was always a bitch. I never approved. Why do you feel bad? She was terrible!"

"It's been a month, give it a break."

"Look, it wasn't a relationship. It was a stupid little dance around. Grow a pair of balls."

"She's definitely banging some other dude. Most likely when you were together."

What are your thoughts on the song Praise Him Up?

For me it's a total earworm, and a good critique of evangelism.

The Boys season 5 is where this clip is from by the way.

For those who go on Gap360 trips, what's the average age?

I'm wanting to do the Spain party trip later this year, and it's open to 35 year olds.

I'm 20, and want to just know if anyone has a rough average age for the company users?

If Nixon dies on the campaign trial in 1960, can Henry Cabot Lodge Jr win the election?

If Nixon dies after a staph infection from hitting his knee on the car door on August 17, 1960, while campaigning in Greensboro, North Carolina, can Lodge Jr win? I'm thinking with the sympathy vote, better debate performance and more time on the trail it could be deadlocked at least.

I think Lodge would have been competent in the debates, not Reagan in 1980 level good but more like Cheney in 2004. Respectable with a good barb every now and then. Nixon's terrible performance was because he was just out the hospital after being bed bound because of the infection.

I'm thinking the final result is Lodge Jr/Milton Young beating Kennedy/Johnson 269 - 268 while the popular vote goes to Kennedy. Afterwards it would go a little something like this -

1964 Lodge/Young beats Robert McNamara/ Happy Chandler

1968 Lyndon Johnson/Richard Daley beats William Miller/Everett Dirkson

1972 Johnson/Daley beats George Murphy/John Lindsay

1976 Spiro Agnew/Richard Schweiker beats Walter Mondale/George McGovern

1980 Ted Kennedy/Terry Stanford beats Richard Schweiker/James Rhodes

1984 Spiro Agnew/Phyllis Schlafly beats Ted Kennedy/Terry Stanford

1988 Dan Quayle/Al Haig beats Gary Hart/Dick Gephardt

1992 Ted Turner/Bruce Babbitt beats George W. Bush/Pete Du Point

How different is 2016 compared to WOA?

I've recently gotten back into the trilogy because I bought W0A on Xbox (buying the games is a total hassle for no reason, but I digress).

Originally I had hitman 1 and 2 as two separate discs during COVID but now I've got the trilogy. It might be my nostalgia talking but I can't see any real difference, which is spectacular considering it's 10 years on from the release.

If the Member of Scottish Parliament Q really is having visa issues, can they be deported or does their term have to finish first?

Specific scenario as I don't know the legislation behind it all lol, but apparently he's on a student visa as he wasn't born in Scotland yet serving as a MSP.

Like come on, it's not that hard to call voters of an opposing party "jobless jakies on benefits" or make fun of their accent. It's actually super easy, no inconvenience.

I live near Largs and had to break up with a lassie from Bearsden because the distance was too much for us to continue. Well more accurately she dumped me over text.

So how far is too far for dating in your opinion? Like half an hour, walking distance, something else?

Unless the partner is violent, known to be angry or whatever then there's no good reason why you should break up with someone over text when a phone call is more emotionally mature.

It just helps provide a better amount of closure and knowledge to the dumpee.

I'm 99% sure I'm joining police Scotland, so I'm curious if you have ever had your personal phone searched? And if so, we're you asked? Ordered? Given a period of grace?

I know, I know. If you've done nothing wrong you don't have anything to hide, but it feels like it's my personal freedom. Or maybe I'm a tech addicted Gen Z lol.

Just asking because I (20, M) was dumped by ex (F, 19) over text about two months ago after being together for six months and idk man.

My dad laughed when I told him two months ago, said it wasn't that serious because he didn't meet her, nor was I experienced enough to make the hour drive so it would have ended at some point and then said it was fine because there were plenty more fish in the sea and I feel like he could have handled that a whole lot better.

Then again I feel stupid for making a post about two months later, idk why I'm thinking about her so hard.
