How bad is the butt joint to flat joint connection?

I did my butt joints first and then my flat joints and without a light they look fine after sanding but with a 2500 lumen shining straight down the wall I see unevenness from where the two joints meet. I’m wondering if this is because I did the butt and flat joints at separate times, but I did wait for the butts to dry before starting the flats. How bad is this?

Does the brand matter for PVA primer?

It seems like PVA primer is what this sub recommends but is there any brand that is better than the other? I’m looking at Home Depot, Lowe’s and Menards as they are all local. I also have sherwin Williams stores close by. It’s being used in a garage with new drywall if that matters

Difference between concrete and drywall trowel?

Is there a difference between a concrete and drywall trowel? I know some drywall trowels are curved but it seems like others are straight. Is there any actual difference between straight drywall trowels and straight concrete trowels? Home Depot also has general 12” trowels on their website and the reviews make it seem like people use them for both concrete and drywall

Mini-split advice

Does anyone have experience with either of these units? Both are on sale at Home Depot right now, less than $1k. The thinkair is about $80 less and has higher reviews, but far fewer reviews. Any thoughts would be appreciated

Window order confirmation

Can someone help me confirm that the window details in the quote are consistent with the window I currently have. I have tried to do my due diligence and believe they are the same, but would like to confirm before ordering

Are these actually good prices for the packout rack and rack kit?

I’ve seen that these are already very overpriced so wondering if these heavy discounts make them a good deal or not

How to handle damaged joint before mud? And overall thoughts on install

First time drywalling. I have a few joints that are damaged from the screw flaring out the corner. How should I handle this prior to mudding? Also welcome overall thoughts on the install as a first timer

Can I replace door without removing vinyl j channel?

The first and second picture is my current set up and I’m looking to replace the door with door due to a rotted jamb. Can I simply remove the metal around the existing door jamb and put the new door in with new metal trim over it without having to remove the vinyl j channel? Ultimately I think I’m trying to avoid having to replace the j channel

Need help with window jamb size

I’m ordering a new construction window. I reached out to a local company and the sales person told me it appears I have a drywall return so I would be looking at a window with a 3 ¼ jamb. I asked for a few options because the initial window was pricey and he told me if a 4 9/16 jamb would work I would have more options. I’m struggling to know which size jamb I should go with. I do plan on keeping the same drywall return with the new window. What exactly should I be looking at to know which size jamb to go with?

Do stealthsonic shop vacs actually last?

I had a Dewalt stealthsonic shop vac for a little under six months and it just randomly stopped working. It had seen relatively little use before dying on me. I researched the issue and it seems like motor issues are fairly common with these. I can get this covered under warranty but I’m wondering if this is going to last for an extended period of time. My previous shop vac lasted over 15 years in the family and I just upgraded because I liked how quiet the Dewalt was. A lot of people speak highly or RIDGID but they’re just so damn loud. Hoping at least some have had good luck with the stealthsonics

First time, how’d I do? Also, need to finally solve my vapor barrier dilemma (Southern Indiana)

First time installing mineral wool, how did I do? I plan on hanging drywall over this but I’m still stuck on the need to install a vapor barrier or not. This is a vinyl sided garage and there is no exterior house wrap. I contacted my local building commissioner and he recommended rockwool but said a vapor barrier over it was optional in our area. I don’t currently have heating/cooling but I haven’t ruled out a mini split in the future. Since I don’t have an exterior house wrap, I’m leaning towards no barrier so it can “breathe” both ways and I don’t want moisture getting trapped in the stud bays in the summer months if warm air is coming in and hitting the interior vapor barrier that could be cooler. Any thoughts?

Random dead spots? (Midwest zone 6)

I have random dead spots throughout my yard. I don’t have a dog and don’t think any neighborhood dogs get in my yard. Some of the spots are my widespread. Are these grubs or could it be something else?

Window with or without j channel for hardie board siding

I’m replacing the window and the siding in the picture. I plan on using hardie board siding and have received a quote for a new window, which is a new construction window since I’ll be removing the siding. In my quote, one window has a built in j channel while the other does not. With hardie board, do I need a window with a j channel? I was thinking I would just butt the hardie board up to the window with a small gap that is caulked but I can’t find a ton of info online. Ultimately, looking for guidance on a window with or without a j channel and any thoughts on the windows in the quote.
