I found a herring gull on a beach in Mersea. Panting and flapping but couldn’t move itself. I waited a while and called some rescues but was told to let it rest. Later in the day, with night closing in and the tide rising, I carried it back to our caravan and took home to an emergency vet. After a few minutes he perked right up but still couldn’t walk or fly. He’s now at a local rescue centre doing better.

I rescued Steven from east Mersea beach where he wasn’t moving and I was able to carry him very easily. He went from that to this feisty character!

Just over our garden tonight. I think about 20 in total. Unbelievable!
