My new favorite OC to draw and a minor antagonist in my story, Prince Akihiko + character design breakdown
He is soo fascinating.
Cultural inspiration breakdown:
Kabuki makeup, also known as kumadori, only one side of his face to signify his "two-sided" persona. The dots are also reminiscent of Ainu tattoing. His entire face is painted white, yes, he has blood circulation under that, you can see it in his neck. The red-and-white contrast with circular shapes is like a koi fish, which fits with his story. No spoilers, though.
The crysytanium or whatever the fuck I refuse to know how to spell this word correctly on his shirt/bandage/thing? is the 16-petaled "mon" of the Japanese emperor. Since he is not the actual emperor and only the emperor in the Meiji period is allowed to wear it. I need to find a slight modification for it but I can't decide so far.
The headband has the fictional faction's version of the rising sun flag, which is just the rising sun flag with a snowflake on account of the nuclear winter. Wow, they're so creative. This is heavily inspired by the headband Yukio Mishima wore during his coup, with the same text. Akihiko is a Mishima fanboy. The text says: 七生報国, meaning "Seven Lives to Serve the Nation", the dying words of a samurai who wished to be reborn to defend his country. This was used a lot during ww2 Japan by soldiers and pilots.
The ponytail is just a generic samurai ponytail. I don't think actual samurai even wore ponytails, I think they went with buns, but whatever, Akihiko is unique.
