Help separating traced colours into layers for cross-hatching

Hi everyone! I’m hoping someone can help me with an Inkscape workflow.

I’m trying to separate the different colours in an image into individual layers, then replace the shapes on each layer with cross-hatching. My goal is to draw the image using an iDraw pen plotter, which can only draw paths. Cross-hatching is the only way I can think of to fill areas with colour, switching to a different pen for each layer. If anyone has experience with an iDraw and knows a better method, I’d be interested to hear it, although my main question is about Inkscape.

Here’s what I’ve tried:

For testing, I copied a random image of Pikachu from Google and pasted it into Inkscape. I selected Path > Trace Bitmap. Under Multicolour > Colours, I left the number of colours at 8, as that gave me a reasonably good-looking result. I enabled Stack and clicked Apply. In the Layers and Objects panel, I selected the new “g1” group, which contains eight paths. I pressed Ctrl+A, then Ctrl+Shift+G eight times because I thought I needed to ungroup each path. I clicked the image’s background and pressed Delete. However, instead of deleting only the background area, it seems to delete that entire colour everywhere in the image.

I’ve read that ungrouping should produce a larger list of individual paths, but nothing seems to change in the Layers and Objects panel when I do it.

Am I misunderstanding how the multicolour trace or ungrouping works? How can I separate each colour and remove only the unwanted background area while keeping the same colour elsewhere in the image?

Just Unsubbed from Privacy

I just can't deal with this subreddit anymore. It's just constant defeatism and complaining. Very rarely will you actually see people offering solutions. The majority of its users are clearly Americans who think they're the only ones pushing back against age verification and similar policies, while nobody else deserves privacy. And then you have moderators locking posts without any explanation, so you have no idea why you can't post.

Overall, I'm much happier when I don't go there. I'm not sticking my head in the sand, I just think it's the worst place to discuss privacy concerns, especially if you're not American.

I don't understand what he's doing in Dark Souls II

Is Phil just ruining Dark Souls II at this point? He clearly hates it. But not only that, I'm not even sure what he's doing at this point. He keeps talking about 'the original game' and how hackers have ruined it. I don't understand what's even going on, but maybe it would help if I had a bit more experience with Dark Souls games.

Whatever he's playing, he's made it look entirely shit.

Just Unsubbed from AntiAI, and I'm pleasantly surprised I'm not the only one here who has.

These kind of subreddits always end up grinding my gears. I originally subscribed to this place because I was interested in seeing updates on the AI bubble, what's going on with OpenAI, etc. Instead, like every subreddit, I just see people farming karma with stupid memes and refusing to have a proper conversation. Albeit a small frustration, the final straw was seeing someone get downvoted into oblivion simply for asking a genuine question.

I’m not suddenly supportive of AI because of this, but I can absolutely see why people might distance themselves from 'Anti AI' spaces when the community behaves like this.

What's the best way to avoid taking damage from gunmen?

This is probably a stupid question but is there some kind of common strategy for taking care of the first gunmen you fight in the game? They fire very fast with good accuracy. And yeah I only started a new game today.

I don't know if I made a mistake watching Ash Vs. Evil Dead before the 2013 reboot.

I'm not saying it sucked, but, after watching three seasons of Ash Williams kicking ass with his chainsaw, I was a little disappointed. In the back of my mind, I just wanted an Ash Williams moment and only got it in the last ten minutes. Heck, even the post-credit scene, I was expecting it to be Ash driving. What was the point in that? Just some random guy? I mean, sure, I'm not unhappy to see the random guy, but still.

Anyway, I'm going to watch Rise next, and then Burn. Does it sound like I'm going to be pretty disappointed here? I wasn't even that scared, I was just a little bored.

Does no-Fail Mode in Megamix+ always refuse to save your score regardless?

This song I'm on is one of those charts where I feel like the more I run through the entire song, the better I'll get with many of the combos. I like the song as well, so I'd rather listen to it in full than looping a few seconds in practice mode over and over again. The thing is, I like to record my scores, but the PlayRecord mod doesn't record it with No-Fail mode on and I'm assuming it's because the game itself doesn't register it.

But I wanted to double check that. Even if you don't deplete your entire HP during the chart, does it still class everything as a fail / refuse to save?

For context I'm going through "Close and Open. Demons and the Dead". All the doubles confuse the crap out of me, especially when they mix and match the symbols and have them flying around in a circle. But because those doubles are throughout the song, I feel like going through the song many times using no-fail mode will gradually get me used to them.

Why aren't my Macros hitting properly?

So I'm trying to pass the Secret Garden on Extreme, but there are three multi-press keys that come down that my keyboard won't register because it can only process two keys being pressed at the same time. So my solution was to set Numpad #1 to press Square and Circle at the same time, so if I'm asked to press Square, Circle and Triangle at the same time, I can press Numpad #1 and then W (as I have that also registered to triangle).

However, while this works for the first multi-press, it won't register on the second one that comes down even though they use the same shapes. I'm not sure what's going on here, or whether there are better macros to use in this case. My PS5 controller works perfectly, but the problem is is that my left thumb just can't coordinate properly so mashing on the faster charts is a nightmare because I can't physically move my left thumb fast enough. I know you don't have to mash on this stage, but I'd rather just stick with one method, and I do plan on buying a keyboard that can support multi-press in the future. Problem is, I'm not really sure where to look, looking for ones advertised as gaming keyboards leads to keyboards in the hundreds.

Edit: I've noticed that there quite a few settings for multi-press in the key config, with some combinations having the same set of three but in a different order. I don't what an intuitive strategy for setting up macros would be for all these.

I keep seeing 'video essay' channels exactly like this and they always sound so artificial.

https://www.youtube.com/@ryan_pictures/videos

  • They all use these 'shitty cartoon' thumbnails.
  • They always use the exact same "FBI investigation" music
  • It's always about a topic that's been spoken about to death.
  • They have time to churn these videos out twice a week.

Can someone confirm this is AI? It just seems incredibly lazy.

I feel more embarrassed than DSP during the fapcident right now

I forgot the microphone was on while talking to my friend and playing Golf, and I broke wind, and then apologised when I remembered it was on. I literally said in my head "Oh, the camera's on".

Phil wasn't embarrassed, why am I embarrassed?

Just Unsubbed from Man Carrying Thing on YouTube

I do think Jake comes off as a good person with interesting takes, and his video essays are great, but at this point I'm getting a little tired of his skits. They have the exact same formula and they're all pretty much the same thing. One thing I've noticed after watching his other channel where he reviews films with his wife, is that some of his skits - especially around media - are just him complaining about things he doesn't like.

I saw someone once talking about how overused and unfunny the "talking to yourself" formula was in making skits, and that Man Carrying Thing was the exception. And to be honest I kind of disagree, I personally love Ryan George and Cilvanis.

Again, I'm not hating on Jake, I love his video essays, and if he would separate his channels I would probably stay subscribed to that one. I watched his latest skit about Supergirl, and it wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be. He wasn't saying that it sucked because of some greedy corporate executive, or moan about the "woke agenda" which Jake doesn't do anyway. But he still decided to call it a flop when it's not even been out that long, because he personally hated it (he reviewed it with his wife). Can a film be called a flop this early? Genuine question, it just seems highly opinionated.

Anyway, I know it's not that deep. That's just my opinion on why I'd rather he just made a separate channel for his video essays.

Is there a subreddit that's like this but specific to the UK?

I do find this subreddit quite useful but I'm wondering if there's one that's focused on the UK so I can see what my dipshit government are trying to do.

I think I've reached the skill ceiling of Adventure Mode.

I can't help but feel like neither puzzles in this game were designed for competitive game modes. With Tetris, maybe, as it's designed around speed and garbage comes up from the bottom. But Puyo Puyo is ridiculous, roughly half way into the story the game punishes you with sensory overload if you can't perfectly and consistently cancel out your opponent's combo within seconds of the round starting. The AI can perfectly align combos with every drop, whereas a human has to suffer stress and nerves.

One of my least favourite design choices around this game is any time a character does anything significant in battle, they play the same small handful of lines. A good choice would be to stop at two or three, but it only makes it more stressful when all you can hear is your opponent constantly shouting "Well well! Ah! Well Well! Yes!" as your CPU spams you with perfectly chained combos. The mixed battles are particularly awful as you have to keep track of two charts while the game basically shouts "change places!" every thirty seconds. It's too chaotic.

I know the solution to this would be to grind out some practice until I can intuitively chain combos without thinking, but the game consistently forces you to use single lukewarm combos that do nothing to your opponent. The RNG is awful at this, sometimes it can take like ten seconds to get colours that don't pop automatically. By which time, you're already dead.

I have seen videos of people doing this successfully. I'm fairly sure I saw a speedrun of the first game, and the guy was getting multiple chain combos at the same time and I just couldn't get my head around how this was possible. I'm here meticulously ensuring there's one Puyo between a chain, yet people can just do it without thinking and managing to get a massive long combo.

So, asking for a friend, but is it bad to see her at concert?

Let's just say my friend (who I'm asking for), only learnt of all of her shit after buying tickets to see her in September. But now is a little concerned about looking like some kind of creeper by even being at a gig to see her. Is he going to look like he's just come straight from Epstein Island or something?

I like her actual songs, like she's clearly pretty talented, but her 'theme' is a little cringe. It's like that scene from the Simpsons where Bart sees an old video of himself wearing a diaper and going "I'm a baby", every song seems to be like this, from what I've seen. It just creeps me out a little bit. Is everyone going to be dressed like babies or some shit? Is someone going to push her onto the stage in a pram as her introduction song?

I mean, heck, my friend could use the money to spend elsehwere.

Edit: All the clips I'm seeing on this subreddit is making my friend feel even worse about this.
