I dislike shower thoughts

I dislike shower thoughts

Basically the types of sayings you'd find on r/Showerthoughts (or if you're not familiar, things that would make you go "woahhhh duuuddeee" if you were high.) I dislike most of them but especially the ones that try to shrink the human experience down to its base material components. I remember seeing one a while ago that was basically like "music is just wiggly air, art is just dust on dead plant matter, and humans are the only species that cries over it" and it's like no, you're not dumb for having a physical reaction to art/music, and you shouldn't hold transcendent/irrational experiences at arm's length for the sake of sounding intellectual. Not sure if this makes sense to anyone else but these kinds of statements just annoy me in a way that's hard to put into words

Thoughts on this design concept?

I’m working on a pantheon of small gods for my worldbuilding project. In circadia, there’s a lot of jobs for small gods. There’s a lot of things that need getting done that people don’t really think about. Like making sure there’s a calm after a storm. For example. Uh yeah what do yall think of my little bird freak? I’m going for a simpler design, but is it too simple?

Heaven vs Hell according to my dream

Hell was like an anarchy Minecraft server where people were just constantly griefing each others' houses But tbf the only thing heaven had going for it was that dolly parton was there and she had a free cocktail bar

「Notos」

Stand:「Notos」

Reference: Song and album by the Oh Hellos, inspired by the Greek god of the Southern Wind, also named Notos

Localized: Auster (roman pantheon equivalent of Notos)

Appearance: Notos is a small humanoid stand, about three feet tall. It has no legs, instead its lower torso ends in a thundercloud. Its face is flat like a frog's, and is always grinning. An arc of large beads on a string passes over the head, and each end rests on the shoulders. The shoulders and elbows are spherical joints, and the arms are skinny. The hands look like heavy gloves. There are thunderbolt details on the chest.

Ability:「Lost in the Wind」Once activated, those who are targeted must watch their words carefully, for any words they say from the point of activation are lost in the Wind. (If in the manga, this would be visualized by a gust of wind blowing the words off the speech bubble) If the target attempts to say a lost word, they are struck by a bolt of lightning. Lost words will return if the ability is deactivated or the user is defeated.

This ability is obviously very conditional, so it is often used alongside other stands to disrupt communication among groups of enemies. I imagine a fight against this stand would involve the protagonist group having to become increasingly creative with their communication as their vocabulary becomes Lost in the Winds of Notos

If I win I want the theme to be stands with practical/everyday abilities

in「THE PINES」where the sun never shines

Stand name: 「The Pines」

Reference: In The Pines/Where did you Sleep Last Night (appalachain folk song)

Localized: Georgia Pines

Stand Type: Bound

Description/ability: Located in northern Georgia, The Pines looks identical to an acre of dense pine forest. User Editha Kossoy is able to control the position of the trees within that acre. She is also able to control the position of the acre, but she is bound to it and cannot leave the boundaries of the forest. She can use this ability to disorient travelers by changing the path, and offensively by crushing them between trees. She isn't much for fighting on her own, so if you ever have to face her, remember that if the trees start moving, she can't be more than an acre away.

User Lore: born in a small Appalachain town in the year 1853, twin sisters Editha and Ellen Kossoy were once normal girls, daughters to a tailor and set to take over the family business. Ellen enjoyed collecting and studying animal bones, and one day Editha stumbled on a human spinal bone in the woods and picked it up, thinking to show it to her sister. She didn't know it was a bone of the Holy Corpse, and when she touched it, it jumped to fuse with her own backbone. She found herself unable to locate the town afterwards, trapped in the lonely pines for days. When she met a hunting party, two of their members were crushed between falling trees. The remaining member thought her a witch and quickly spread the news to the town. Somebody mistook her sister Ellen for her and shot Ellen through the heart. News of this reached Editha, and she has since spent her days in the woods wreaking vengeance on all travelers who pass through.

If I win I want the category to be folk songs

I HATE LAWNMOWERS RAAAHG

For context I live outside of town near people who own multiple acres of land. For further context, I have misophonia and react irrationally to noises that don't always bother other people.

Anyways, in the summertime around where I live you can ALWAYS hear somebody mowing on one of those bigass riding lawnmowers that are louder than the screams of the damned. The droning shakes the walls and sometimes full-volume noise cancelling headphones aren't enough to block it out.

And like I said there is always always somebody mowing their lawn around here from dawn til dusk. I swear they stagger their mowing schedule for maximum noise pollution. And it doesn't help that I have a neighbor who mows for *at least* twice as long as he actually needs to. (I know this by comparing how long it takes my lawn to get mowed) I think it's his happy place or something.

I cannot wait for electric lawnmowers to become mainstream because I don't know how many more summers I can handle. And it doesn't end when summer's over either, cause as soon as the first leaf touches the ground, out come the blower brigade clearing out driveways. At least that doesn't take multiple hours. Winter is the only good season here cause it isn't hot and it's actually quiet.

And don't get me started on how I hate multi-acre lawns in general. That could be a whole other post.

Thoughts on this rough evil Wizard design?

This is Rameleck, a scheming royal wizard who plots the hero’s downfall. it’s not his fault, he lives in a fairy tale world. which means that looks determine everything about a person. The beautiful are heroes while those considered ugly are the villains. Rameleck was born without a left arm (which he eventually replaced with an enchanted ribbon), but worse than that, he was born with an unattractive face. Nevertheless, he clawed his way to the highest position he could: the scheming advisor. He now serves the Princess of the Pines as court wizard. He loathes her champion and husband, Leo the Hero, because he got a happily ever after but is dissatisfied with it. As Leo attempts to adjust to the life of a prince, Rameleck plots his destruction instead of bettering himself.

He's meant to be my story's main antagonist. I included the second drawing cause I like it better, but the first one shows the silhouette I’m going for as well as the ribbon arm

so what do y’all think of the design? what would you change for the better? Do you think it reflects the above lore? would You consider him unattractive or should I push it further? (He’s not meant to be hideous, just less than beautiful. His society’s standards are harsh.) Please let me know :)

Thoughts on this design?

This is a fantasy hero character I’m developing for a webcomic that will mostly be in black and white but I’m working on a color scheme for now. I’m worried that he looks too much like Thor right now, especially with the blond hair. He’s definitely meant to look like a superhero, but the setting is medieval fantasy, and i imagine him looking more like normal people of his setting as the story progresses and he becomes more down-to-earth. I’d love to hear your impressions of the design from a visual standpoint, and if you’re interested, here’s his lore:

Dragonslayer Leo was always meant to be a hero. It was clear from the day he was born. He was the youngest and most handsome of three brothers, he had a jealous, evil stepmother, and he killed his first dragon at just three years old. His hammers were made of the teeth of a great dragon, and were enchanted to become Stone-shaper, which can mold solid stone like clay, and Mountain-crusher, which can break through stone like chalk. He mostly uses the second one, as crushing always seems to get the job done. From the biggest and baddest dragon he ever killed, he rescued Princess Heather of the Pines, to whom he is now married, as is the custom for all great heroes. Thus began his happily-ever-after. But a few months went by and he still wasn’t happy. It turns out a lifelong hero struggles to adjust to the life of a prince. The comic will be about him finding that balance while sneaking out to do secret hero stuff. The headband he now wears bears the golden pine cones, a symbol of the kingdom he is now prince of.

So yeah, what do you think of this design? How can it be improved? Does it look too much like marvel’s Thor or am I overthinking it?

Arin and Sora

(art by me!!)

just started Dragons Rising s3 and I am enjoying the series a lot more than I thought. I love how sora’s power brings building back into the Lego show and I’m enjoying arin’s character a lot. I really like their dynamic of “ninja superfan who really tries but struggles to learn“ and “self doubting prodigy” and I’m excited to see where they take it. I almost wish there was more focus on the new characters instead of trying to fit all of the legacy characters in (and I’m saying this as a day one ninjago fan!!) but overall I’m liking it! Also really love how much they use spinjitzu and how cool it looks, esp since the later ninjago seasons didn’t seem to care for it as much

How do y'all feel about people who don't draw their own characters?

I'm talking about people who only use references of their characters made by other people. I've had a couple instances lately where I see a cool character design and then i look down and notice it was designed by someone other than the artist and i instantly lose interest.

I kind of get it cause you want your character to look really good so you get attacked a lot. But I also personally want to see your own style and your own designs and it almost feels like getting catfished when I see a really cool design I want to attack but it turns the owner has a completely different artstyle. Y'all feel me on this or am I crazy?

edit: I posted this last night when I was really tired and it came across as harsh to some people. I’m not trying to hate on those who feel like they’re unskilled or those who commission/adopt ocs. To me, artfight is about celebrating people’s unique styles and I really just want to see everyone thrive and grow in their personal ability.

Looking to draw 1-2 furry/anthro OCs in this style for my commission portfolio!

So I'm working on my portfolio for commissions and I need your 🫵 help. that's right you🫵rs. I'm almost done with it but I want to have another furry/anthro example in this collage-y style I'm experimenting with.

Comment below with a pic of your furry/anthro OC (must be your own drawing, I don't take Roblox/hero forge characters) include a bit of lore and their general vibe cause I like reading it, and if you want yours to have lyrics then include the song+lines you want. I'll be picking them based on how fun I think they'll be to draw.

Also I'll be keeping this open for a few hours before I decide, and I may come back to this post later to pick another, so don't be shy about commenting if there's already a lot of comments. If I pick yours to do I'll dm and we can talk about what you want it to look like. Include a green emoji in your comment so I can see you read this :)

Looking for one furry/anthro trade!! (read desc)

I'm trying to build my portfolio for commissions and I'm almost done but I want another furry example in this collage-y style I've been experimenting with. If you're interested, comment with a pic of a furry/anthro oc you want drawn, (and if you want yours to have lyrics then comment with a song and the specific lines you'd want me to use) and I'll dm if I want to trade. I'll be picking them on the basis of how fun I think they'll be to draw

I am only doing one trade but I'll be leaving this open for a few hours before I pick so don't be afraid to comment if there's already some others. Uhh yeah and please add a green emoji to your comment to show you've read all this please and thanks :D

(also I'm not necessarily looking for the same amount of effort to be put in on your end, any drawing you want to give in return is fine :))

Bored af(reak) and looking to do 1-2 trades

First pic is an example of a trade I've done and the rest are the characters I want drawn

Sorry for the weird pics, I have no Wi-Fi so I'm having to take pics of my iPad for the ones that aren't on my phone rn. That is how you know the situation is dire. Anyways I'm looking to trade fr fr since I am so bored. I will do humanoid characters. Comment examples of characters you want drawn as well as some lore and I'll dm if I'm interested

Since others are doing it, name an ability and I'll explain how it can be done in my magic system!

Saw some others doing this and I thought it was cool. My system has simple abilities that require a lot of creativity to use effectively so this will be a good exersize for me.

In the skies of Vallas, magic is cast by music. Music has inherent power because the Four Winds created the world through song. Echoes of that song ring out to this day. Some are able to harmonize with those echoes and wield the powers of the Winds.

There are traditionally four styles of magic, each named for one of the Four Winds, but each follows the same principles:

  • magic can't create, it can only move objects forward through space and time (time can never be rewinded)
  • Moving large things requires lower notes, and quick motion requires faster playing
  • All abilities can be amplified if performed by multiple people
  • Words/lyrics may be used to shape the action and make it more specific

With that out of the way, what are the abilities of musical magic?

West Wind/Spring music is used to accelerate growth, or can be focused into specific areas to heal injuries. Combined with the power of physical motion, this style is able to control the direction of growth, shaping it into whatever the player wills. The sound of this music is often pleasant, light, and inspirational.

South Wind/Summer music is a broad category which describes all motion through space. Nearly all spells use it to some extent. The sound of this music is strong, rallying, and percussive.

East Wind/Autumn music is used to accelerate rot and decay. While it is easy to use this ability on dead matter, it is much harder to rot something with a strong will to live. The sound of this music is dissonant, overwhelming, and disturbing.

North Wind/Winter music is able to freeze motion, preserving the exact location of something in space and time. The effect lasts for as long as a note is held. The sound of this music is slow, droning, and contemplative.

Another ability these all share is the power of words. An effect can be imbued into an object by way of a powerful musician telling a story about it that is so convincing that it actually becomes true. It can be as simple as "this arrow is loyal, and always returns to its owner for the sake of honor", or it can be a 12-verse ballad describing the functions of different parts of an automaton designed to haul lumber. Specific activation instructions can also be given, like saying a magic word or doing a specific hand motion.

That is all! Thanks for reading all that, Feel free to ask questions and comment with spells you'd like to see me give an explanation for.
