From Siyar Aʿlām al-Nubalāʾ by Imām al-Dhahabī

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAbbās, Scholar of the Ummah May Allah be pleased with him

The profound Scholar of the Ummah, Jurist of the era, and Imam of Tafsīr (Qur'anic Exegesis), Abū al-ʿAbbās ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAbbās ibn ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib ibn Hāshim ibn ʿAbd Manāf al-Qurashī al-Hāshimī al-Makkī. The cousin of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and his mother was Umm al-Faḍl Lubābah bint al-Ḥārith al-Hilāliyyah (the sister of the Mother of the Believers, Maymūnah).

He was born in the mountain pass of Banū Hāshim (Shiʿb Banī Hāshim) three years before the Hijrah. He accompanied the Prophet ﷺ closely for approximately thirty months. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away, Ibn ʿAbbās was thirteen years of age (and it was also said: fifteen years) and had already memorized the clear, decisive portions of the Qur'an (al-Muḥkam / al-Mufaṣṣal).

The Prophet's ﷺ Supplications for His Deep Understanding and Exegesis

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ drew him to his chest, stroked his head, and supplicated:

“O Allah, grant him a deep understanding of the religion, and teach him the interpretation of the Qur'an.”

And in another narration in Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī:

“O Allah, teach him the Book and Wisdom.”

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

His Ardent Pursuit of Knowledge and Humility

Ibn ʿAbbās رضي الله عنهما said: “When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away, I dedicated myself entirely to seeking knowledge from the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. If news of a single hadith reached me from a man, I would go to his door while he was resting at midday, spread my cloak across his doorstep as a pillow, and wait while the wind blew dust over me until he came out. When he saw me, he would say: ‘O cousin of the Messenger of Allah! Why did you not send for me so I could come to you?’ I would reply: ‘No, I am more obligated to come to you to ask you.’”

And he said: “I used to ask as many as thirty Companions of the Prophet ﷺ concerning a single matter.”

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

His High Regard in the Council of ʿUmar

ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb رضي الله عنه used to seat him close to himself among the senior veterans of Badr and consult him in major affairs of state, remarking:

“That is the mature man in his youth: he possesses an inquiring tongue and an astute, understanding heart.”

ʿUmar once tested the senior Companions regarding the meaning of Surah an-Naṣr:

They explained it as an order to praise Allah and seek forgiveness when victory arrives.

ʿUmar turned to Ibn ʿAbbās and asked: “What say you, O Ibn ʿAbbās?” He replied: “It signified the approaching death of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, which Allah was disclosing to him.” ʿUmar said: “I know nothing of it other than what you have said.”

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

The Testimony of the Senior Companions to His Mastery

ʿAbdullāh ibn Masʿūd رضي الله عنه said:

“What an excellent interpreter of the Qur'an Ibn ʿAbbās is! Had he attained our age, none of us would have come close to him.”

Saʿd ibn Abī Waqqāṣ رضي الله عنه said: “I have never seen anyone with quicker comprehension, deeper intellect, greater knowledge, or broader forbearance than Ibn ʿAbbās.”

Ubayy ibn Kaʿb رضي الله عنه said:

“This young man will be the grand scholar (Ḥabr) of this Ummah; he has been granted immense intellect and understanding, and the Prophet ﷺ supplicated for his deep comprehension in religion.”

And ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib رضي الله عنه said of him: “Indeed, he is a diver who extracts the finest, deepest gems of knowledge.”

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

His Expansive Knowledge and the Title "The Ocean"

Ibn ʿAbbās was titled "The Ocean" (Al-Baḥr) due to the vastness and overflowing nature of his knowledge.

Mujāhid said: “I have never seen anyone like Ibn ʿAbbās; on the day he died, he was truly the grand scholar of this Ummah.”

Masrūq said: “When you look at Ibn ʿAbbās, you say: ‘He is the most handsome of people’; when he speaks, you say: ‘He is the most eloquent of people’; and when he discusses knowledge, you say: ‘He is the most knowledgeable of people.’”

His learning assemblies accommodated endless seekers: dedicating sessions to Qur'anic Tafsīr, Fiqh, Prophetic expeditions, Arabic poetry, and history.

His Devotion in Worship and Weeping Out of Fear of Allah

Ibn Abī Mulaykah said: “I accompanied Ibn ʿAbbās from Makkah to Madīnah: whenever he stopped for the night, he would stand half the night in prayer, reciting the Qur'an letter by letter, weeping and sobbing profusely out of fear of Allah.”

Abū Rajāʾ al-ʿUṭāridī remarked: “I saw beneath the eyes of Ibn ʿAbbās marks resembling worn sandal straps from the sheer volume of his weeping.”

His Death and the Tribute of Ibn al-Ḥanafiyyah

The Scholar of the Ummah, ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAbbās, passed away in al-Ṭāʾif in the year 68 AH (and it was said: 67 AH) at the age of approximately seventy-one.

Upon his burial, Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥanafiyyah stood over his grave and proclaimed:

“Today, profound scholar (Rabbānī) of this Ummah has died.”

Made a doomscroll replacement minimalistic Quran reader! (:

Assalamalaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu!

I’ve been working on a project which I hope benefits you all InshaAllah!, a Quran app called QuranScroll.

The idea is simple: replace doomscrolling with something that is important and brings barakah to our lives. Instead of endlessly scrolling through distractions, you read the words of Allah!,

What makes it different:

  • Minimalistic and clean, NO clutter, NO bloat, a lot of apps overwhelm users with buttons everywhere distracting them from the Quran, i've designed the app to combat that
  • Scroll based reading experience (smooth, natural, immersive!)
  • Beautiful and minimal streak system to keep you consistent
  • Awesome and beautiful theme customization and verse sharing system!
  • 100% focused on the Quran! no distractions
  • Tafsirs
  • Word by word breakdown
  • and much more!

🚫 No ads!

A lot of Quran apps today feel heavy and distracting. This is the opposite, built to keep your heart connected to the Quran without anything pulling you away or distracting you, dont be fooled though! the app also offers IMMENSELY powerful features which you would need from a Quran app! Tafsir, ayah sharing, reciter selection, bookmarks and much more all integrated in a non bloated manner!

I’d really appreciate your feedback and support as i as a solo dev have built this over the span of many months. The goal is to grow this and benefit more people, bi idhnillah.

Download here!

May Allah make it beneficial for you and a source of reward for all of us.

The Greatest Matter Commanded by Allah is Tawheed!

The Greatest Matter Commanded by Allaah is Tawheed.

Imaam Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahhaab Rahimahullah said:

And the greatest of all that Allah has commanded is Tawheed, and it is to single out Allaah with all worship.

“The greatest of all that Allah has commanded is Tawheed”: All the commands that Allah has commanded, all of them, come AFTER tawheed, today we see a lot of "imams" speaking about how you shouldn't steal, rob, do zina, etc but you will see them NEVER speaking about tawheed and bidah, the sign of the person of Bidah is that he hides evidence from the Quran and Sunnah.

And the proof that the greatest thing that Allah has commanded is tawheed is His saying, He the Most High:

And worship Allah alone, and do not associate anything with Him [4:36]

To the end of the aayah.

This aayah contains ten rights, and therefore it is called the aayah of the ten rights. The first of these rights is the right of Allah the Perfect:

And worship Allaah alone, and do not associate anything with Him [4:36]

And treat the parents well [4:36]

This is the second right.

And the close relatives [4:36]

and it continues

What is important is that Allah began it with His right, He the Perfect and Most High.

His saying:

And do not associate anything along with Him [4:36]

He did not restrict Himself to saying:

And worship Allaah [4:36]

Because worship will not be correct along with shirk and it will not benefit, and it will not be called worship unless it is made purely and sincerely for Allaah the Mighty and Majestic. If it has shirk along with it, then it will not be worship, no matter how much the person exerts himself in its performance. So He joined the matter of worship with the prohibition of shirk, since worship will not be correct with the presence of shirk at all.

This is a proof for the saying of the Sheikh, “The greatest thing that Allah commanded is tawheed”, since Allaah began many aayahs with it, from them is this aayah, and from them is His saying He the Most High:

And your Lord has commanded that you should not worship except Him [17:23]

So He the Perfect and Most High began with tawheed, and this proves that it is the greatest thing that Allah has commanded.

Say: Come I will recite to you that which your Lord has truly forbidden for you: do not associate anything in worship with Him, and treat the parents well, and do not kill your children on account of poverty [6:151]

This is a proof for what will follow, that the greatest thing that Allah has forbidden is shirk. So since the greatest thing that Allah has commanded is tawheed, then it is obligatory that the person begins by learning ‘aqeedah (correct belief) before everything. Correct creed and belief is the foundation, so it is obligatory that the person begins with it in learning and teaching and that he is constant upon teaching it and explaining it to the people, because it is the greatest thing that Allah has commanded, so it is not befitting that you make it the last of all things or give no great attention to it, because now there are actually callers who renounce the teaching of tawheed and ‘aqeedah, there are people who are afflicted with this. And because any deficiencies with regard to it will be a deficiency in the whole of the religion so it is obligatory to give careful attention to it.

And what is tawheed ? Is it that you affirm that Allah is the Creator, the Provider, the Giver of life, the Giver of death? No. Tawheed is: to single out Allah with worship, because Allaah said:

And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me. [51:56]

And the people of tafseer said: Worship Me – meaning single Me out (with all worship). So they explained tawheed as ‘ibaadah (worship).

Therefore, tawheed is to single out Allaah with worship and it is not to affirm that Allah is the Creator, the Provider, the Giver of life, the Giver of death, the One in control of affairs because this is present in people’s fitrah (inborn nature). It is present in the intellects of those who possess intellect. There is not a person of intellect in the world who truly believes that anyone created the Heavens and the Earth besides Allah, the Perfect and Most High. There is not in the whole world anyone – and that includes the unbelievers and the atheists – who truly believes that there is anyone from mankind who created mankind.

And if you were to ask them (the people of shirk) who created them, they would certainly say, “Allah!” [43:87]

There is not a person with intellect in the whole world who believes truly that a human can create a human being who walks upon the Earth and speaks and eats and drinks. Is there a person with intellect who believes this?

Were they created without any Creator having brought them into existence? Or are they the creators? Or did they create the Heavens and the Earth? Rather they do not have certainty. [52:35-36]

Tawheed-ur-ruboobiyyah (tawheed of Allaah’s Lordship) is something found in the inborn natures and in their intellects; however it will not suffice without tawheed-ul-‘ibaadah (tawheed of worship) – and it is to single out Allaah with all worship.

And therefore the Shaykh said: Tawheed is to single out Allaah with worship and it is not to single out Allaah with respect to creating and providing and giving life and giving death because this is something which is known and tawheed-ur-ruboobiyyah (tawheed of Allaah’s Lordship) will not suffice with regard to the definition of tawheed.

And indeed it has been revealed to you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم), as it was to those (Allâh’s Messengers) before you: "If you join others in worship with Allâh, (then) surely (all) your deeds will be in vain, and you will certainly be among the losers."

What Islam Actually Says About Women, Evidence from the Quran and Sunnah

A lot of doubts have been spread by a lot of these “social media influencers” and Islamophobes, where they try to prove that women in Islam are not important or do not have rights. We see a lot of posts from sisters who have had doubts about Islam due to this. In this post, I have compiled evidence from the Quran and Sunnah to counter these claims. InshaAllah, it will be useful. I might have to continue the post in the comments, as the importance of women is immense in Islam.

I will begin by quoting verses from the Quran and ahadith that demonstrate the honour and status Islam gives women, before discussing some of their rights and responsibilities. Islam gave women the rights Allah prescribed for them, honoured them in the roles He legislated for them, and forbade injustice against them.

In marriage, a woman has the right to choose her husband and cannot be forced into marriage. The Prophet ﷺ said, “A widow should not be married until she is consulted, and a virgin should not be married until she gives her permission.” Her consent is required, and her marriage is contracted through her lawful wali in accordance with the Sunnah. She is also entitled to a dowry, financial support, and kind treatment. If her husband marries another wife, he must deal justly between them.

A woman may also seek separation if she cannot remain in the marriage. She may request khul’, normally by returning the dowry or agreed compensation in exchange for separation. This occurred with the wife of Thabit ibn Qays, whose request was accepted by the Prophet ﷺ, who instructed her to return the dowry. If a woman is being harmed or oppressed and her husband refuses to release her, the matter may be taken to a qualified Islamic judge.

Women’s testimony is accepted in many matters. The Quranic verse concerning financial transactions mentions two women alongside one man in a particular financial context. In other matters, such as childbirth and issues specifically known by women, the testimony of one woman may be sufficient.

Islam also guaranteed women a share of inheritance at a time when they were commonly denied it. The Quran says, “For men is a share of what parents and relatives leave, and for women is a share of what parents and relatives leave, whether little or much—a fixed share.” Although a son may receive twice the share of a daughter in certain cases, men are financially responsible for their families, whereas women are not required to spend their personal wealth on others.

Women may conduct business, own property, and undertake permissible work, and their earnings belong to them. Such work must itself be lawful and must observe Islamic requirements, including proper hijab, avoiding seclusion with opposite gender and free mixing, and fulfilling obligatory family responsibilities. They are not obligated to financially maintain the household, as that responsibility falls upon men.

Muslim women also participated in scholarship, trade, healthcare, advising others(not publicly). They taught knowledge, corrected mistakes, and gave valuable counsel. One of the clearest examples is Umm Salama رضي الله عنها advising the Prophet ﷺ during the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah.

The Sharia protects women’s dignity, safety, wealth, reputation, and right to justice. The Prophet ﷺ said, “The best of you are those who are best to their wives.” Harming, oppressing, or mistreating women is therefore contrary to Islamic teachings.

The following verses show some of the different ways Islam honours and protects women.

The first verse (31:14) commands gratitude towards parents, especially mothers, for the hardships they endure in pregnancy, childbirth, and nursing. The second verse (30:21) describes marriage as a relationship of tranquility, love, and mercy.

The third verse (2:187) compares spouses to clothing for one another, representing mutual support, protection, and closeness. The fourth verse (4:34) establishes the husband’s responsibility of leadership, protection, and financial maintenance within the family.

The fifth verse (4:19) forbids inheriting or coercing women against their will and commands husbands to live with them kindly. The final verse (24:23) warns of severe punishment for falsely accusing chaste women, thereby protecting their honour and reputation.

Together, these verses show that Islam honours women as mothers, wives, daughters, and individuals, granting them dignity, provision, care, and legal protection.

“And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination.” (Quran 31:14)

“And among His signs is this: that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that you may dwell in tranquility with them, and He has put love and mercy between your hearts. Verily in that are signs for those who reflect.” (Quran 30:21)

This verse describes marriage as a relationship based upon tranquility, love, and mercy.

“They are clothing for you, and you are clothing for them.” (Quran 2:187)

This verse describes the mutual support, protection, love, and respect that should exist between spouses.

“Men are the protectors and maintainers of women by [right of] what Allah has given one over the other and what they spend [in support] from their wealth.” (Quran 4:34)

“O you who have believed, it is not lawful for you to inherit women by compulsion. And do not make difficulties for them in order to take [back] part of what you gave them,

unless they commit a clear immorality [adultery].

And live with them in kindness. For if you dislike them—perhaps you dislike a thing and Allah makes therein much good.” (Quran 4:19)

“Indeed, those who [falsely] accuse chaste, unaware and believing women are cursed in this world and the Hereafter; and they will have a great punishment.” (Quran 24:23)

Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه reported: A person came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and asked, “Who among people is most deserving of my fine treatment?”

He ﷺ said, “Your mother.”

He again asked, “Who next?”

“Your mother,”

the Prophet ﷺ replied again.

He asked, “Who next?”

The Prophet ﷺ said again, “Your mother.”

He again asked, “Then who?”

Thereupon, he ﷺ said, “Then your father.”

(Bukhari 5971, Sahih Muslim 2548b, and Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 5)

Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “The believers who show the most perfect faith are those who have the best behaviour, and the best of you are those who are the best to their wives.”

(Sunan Ibn Majah 1977—Hasan; Tirmidhi 3895—Hasan Sahih Gharib; Mishkat al-Masabih 3264)

Daughters are a blessing in Islam, and caring for them with patience and kindness is a means of protection from the Fire.

Uqbah bin Amir said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, “Whoever has three daughters and is patient towards them, and feeds them, gives them to drink, and clothes them from his wealth, they will be a shield for him from the Fire on the Day of Resurrection.”

(Sunan Ibn Majah 3669—Sahih)

Malik reported Allah’s Messenger ﷺ as saying: “He who brought up two girls properly until they grew up, he and I would come together very closely on the Day of Resurrection,” and he interlaced his fingers to explain the point of nearness between him and that person.

(Sahih Muslim 2631)

It was narrated from Mu’awiyah bin Jahimah As-Sulami that Jahimah came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: “O Messenger of Allah! I want to go out and fight in jihad, and I have come to ask your advice.”

He said: “Do you have a mother?”

He said: “Yes.”

He ﷺ said: “Then stay with her, for Paradise is beneath her feet.”

(Sunan An-Nasa’i 3104—Sahih)

Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه reported Allah’s Messenger ﷺ as saying: “He who believes in Allah and the Hereafter, if he witnesses any matter, should speak in good terms about it or remain silent. Act kindly towards women, for woman was created from a rib, and the most crooked part of the rib is its top. If you attempt to straighten it, you will break it, and if you leave it, its crookedness will remain. So act kindly towards women.”

(Sahih Muslim 1468a)

It was narrated that Aishah رضي الله عنها said: “The Messenger of Allah never beat any of his servants or wives, and his hand never hit anything.”

(Sunan Ibn Majah 1984—Sahih)

Narrated Anas bin Malik: Allah’s Messenger ﷺ was on a journey, and he had a black slave called Anjasha who was driving the camels very fast while women were riding on them. Allah’s Messenger ﷺ said, “Waihaka—may Allah be merciful to you—O Anjasha! Drive slowly with the glass vessels!”

(Bukhari 6161)

Caring for widows and the poor is also given an immense reward.

Narrated Safwan bin Salim: The Prophet ﷺ said, “The one who looks after and works for a widow and for a poor person is like a warrior fighting for Allah’s cause, or like a person who fasts during the day and prays throughout the night.” Abu Hurairah also narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said the same.

(Bukhari 6006)

Narrated Abdullah bin Mas’ud: I asked Allah’s Messenger ﷺ, “O Allah’s Messenger! What is the best deed?”

He replied, “To offer the prayers at their early stated fixed times.”

I asked, “What is next in goodness?”

He replied, “To be good and dutiful to your parents.”

I further asked, “What is next in goodness?”

He replied, “To participate in jihad in Allah’s cause.”

I did not ask Allah’s Messenger ﷺ anymore, and if I had asked him more, he would have told me more.

(Bukhari 2782)

Women were also trusted for their wisdom and advice. During the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, Umm Salama رضي الله عنها gave the Prophet ﷺ advice that helped resolve a difficult situation.

Narrated Al-Miswar bin Makhrama and Marwan: Allah’s Messenger ﷺ said to his Companions, “Get up, slaughter your sacrifices, and shave your heads.” By Allah, none of them got up, and the Prophet ﷺ repeated his order three times.

When none of them got up, he left them and went to Umm Salama رضي الله عنها and told her of the people’s attitude towards him. Umm Salama said, “O Prophet of Allah! Do you want your order to be carried out?

Go out and do not say a word to anybody until you have slaughtered your sacrifice and called your barber to shave your head.”

(Bukhari 2731)

Ibn Hajar comments on this and says that it demonstrates the permissibility of consulting a virtuous woman and shows the virtue and great wisdom of Umm Salama

Translation: “And in it is the virtue of consultation, and that action, when combined with speech, is more impactful than speech alone. However, it does not imply that action is always more impactful than speech. It also indicates the permissibility of consulting a virtuous woman, and the virtue of Umm Salama, and her great wisdom.”

(Fath Al-Bari by Ibn Hajar, 6/648)

Ibn Umar رضي الله عنه narrated from the Prophet ﷺ that the women of Jannah will sing: “We are fine and beautiful women, wives of a noble people, looked upon with eyes of comfort! And among their singing is: We are women everlasting, never to die; we are women in safety, never to fear; we are women here to stay, never to leave!”

Translation: Ibn Umar رضي الله عنه reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Verily, the wives of Paradise will sing for their husbands with the most beautiful voices that no one has ever heard. Among their singing is: We are fine and beautiful women, wives of a noble people, looked upon with eyes of comfort! And among their singing is: We are women everlasting, never to die; we are women in safety, never to fear; we are women here to stay, never to leave!”

The Prophet ﷺ said that a woman who dies because of pregnancy or childbirth receives the reward of a martyr, by Allah’s permission.

(Sunan Abi Dawud 3111)

In a hasan hadith, the Prophet ﷺ said: “Women and perfume have been made dear to me, and the comfort of my eyes has been placed in prayer.”

(Sunan An-Nasa’i 3939)

Islam did not only grant women the right to seek knowledge but made necessary religious knowledge an obligation upon them and upon all Muslims. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim.” This includes both men and women, each of whom must learn the religious knowledge necessary to correctly fulfil their obligations.

Islam encourages women to increase in beneficial knowledge, as reflected in Allah’s words: “And say, ‘My Lord, increase me in knowledge’” (Taha: 114), and: “You have been given of knowledge only a little” (Al-Isra: 85).

Additionally, the Mothers of the Believers preserved and transmitted what was recited in their houses of the verses of Allah and wisdom. Allah says: “And remember what is recited in your houses of the verses of Allah and wisdom” (Al-Ahzab: 34). Men and women would come to them to ask about religious matters, and they played an essential role in spreading knowledge.

Aishah رضي الله عنها played a significant role in this regard, as Muslims would seek her guidance on legal and religious matters. She reminded them of the truth in matters of disagreement. She was known for her expertise in hadith, fiqh, genealogy, poetry, and other fields of beneficial knowledge. Similarly, her sister Asma رضي الله عنها and other knowledgeable women among the Companions and those who followed them were known for their transmission of hadith and beneficial knowledge.

Muslim women did not limit themselves to religious sciences, poetry, and language; they also contributed in areas such as medicine and nursing. Among the women who cared for the sick and wounded were Umm Atiyyah al-Ansariyyah, Umm Sinan al-Aslamiyyah, Nusaybah bint Ka’b, and other women among the Companions and early Muslims.

Women also taught beneficial knowledge, transmitted hadith, advised others, treated the sick, conducted permissible trade, and served the Muslim community within the limits established by the Sharia.

Allah honoured women and legislated rights and duties for them, just as He legislated rights and duties for men. Justice in Islam does not mean that the rights of the two sexes are equal, in Islam the rights are equitable(based upon justice)

Something very useful I thought to share with everyone!

Often times while writing posts, comments or replies etc on desktop we use islamic phrases and symbols like ﷺ ,etc, this can quickly become difficult as u have to go to google, search for it, copy the symbol then paste it, instead of doing all of this im doing this, install this lightweight software for text automation and after that simply run this file ive created which contains a lot of the phrases, symbols etc that ive created, u can also check what the file contains and instructions inside it by opening the file with notepad. press ctrl+alt+m to open the GUI picker and if u dont like the GUI picker u can alternatively do it by writing the semicolon shortcut phrases. Hopefully this is helpful! 💓

Learn to say "I dont know"

One of the most beneficial phrases we as Muslims can learn nowadays is "I don't know.".

Today, everyone feels like they NEED TO have an opinion on every issue. A verse is posted, a hadith is shared, a complex matter of fiqh or aqeedah is mentioned and u see people immediately begin speaking without knowledge and even issuing fatwas without knowledge and this is extremely dangerous

Allah says:

>And follow not (O man i.e., say not, or do not or witness not) that of which you have no knowledge.****^(1) Verily! The hearing, and the sight, and the heart, of each of those one will be questioned (by Allâh).
Quran

the Salaf feared speaking without knowledge. A beautiful example is Imam Malik رحمه الله when a man travelled a long distance to ask him around forty questions, IMAM MALIK answered only some of them, and for many others he simply said "I do not know.", the man was surprised and asked "What shall I tell the people when I return?" Imam Malik replied "Tell them that Malik does not know."

This did not diminish his status in any way in fact it increased it!

sadly, today, some people would rather invent an answer or speak beyond their level of knowledge than admit they dont know.

There is no shame in saying "I don't know.", "Let me check.", "Ask a person of knowledge.", "Allah knows best."

protect your tongue = protect your religion.

Abdullah ibn Amr reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Whoever is silent has been saved.”

Source: Sunan al-Tirmidhī 2501

May Allah make us from those who speak with knowledge and remain silent when they do not know.
