[Loved Trope] Only Sane Man or Woman

Better known as Voice of Reason. A character who stood out as normal and sane in contrast to every weird characters or the outlandish settings in the work that they come from. Loved this trope because I love the contrast between the normal and the weird that made it stand out and easily to relate at the end of the day. Like other tropes, it can be done correctly or wrong.

Serious Question: Why Do People Dislike Overdesigned Characters?

Disclaimer: Hopefully the mods won't deleted this post. This post is mostly going to be a discussion of a certain aspects of character designs more than anything else. So it is related to the subreddit. Might as well overlap with Design Trope Sunday if its the case. In additon, I apologize if the meme of the first picture is very derogatory in nature.

So, I'm just going to go through the chase and wanted to discuss about something: So in this subreddit, I have noticed some interesting kind of pattern. It is regarding people having an aversion of overdesigned characters. This brings me to question for you all and the topic of the point of the discussion:

Why do most people dislike characters that are overly designed?

I am just curious as to why. A lot of people especially in this subreddit uses the term "overdesigned" as an inherently bad thing to do. Like it is the type of designs that has been stigmatized. This happens mostly when people tried to post Gacha Game stuffs. I mean sure, character designs are like tropes, they are tools and if you can pull your card rights, it will work wonders. Regardless, I am curious: What make people dislike character designs that are overdesigned? Let me know your thoughts on the comment section below.

Anyways, sauce for the picture from the 2nd one to the last one if you ignore the SpongeBob meme on the first picture:

  1. Omega Flowey from Undertale

  2. Apostles from Berserk (Truth to be told, I love Miura's art but there's an argument that Miura's attention to detail leaves the art to be overdesigned. This happened with the Apostles especially in that panels. And there's nothing wrong with that for me. It does make the art looks gorgeous)

  3. Mona from Genshin Impact

  4. Qin Shi Huang from Fate Grand Order

  5. Flashing Thief Fizz from Brave Frontier.

Drag Queens or People Dressed in Drags

Full disclosure: I have to admit that I respect these guys dedications! Despite my scathing remarks on a certain protagonist of Genshin, I find drag queens to be somewhat... Interesting to say the least. At least unlike that protagonist, drag queen at least has a flair with their design. (And even then, that Genshin protagonist designs had some other issues) When I see people dressed in drag, I see tons of the designs that they wore went all out about it and I see tons of efforts and care put in some of their outfit. The dresses are colorful, have flair and certainly surreal that it really adds more color in this world.

And yes, this is basically a response for the last week post I made here about girls in carnival outfit. Both them and drag queens are good. I originally wanted to post the genderbend version of girls in carnival outfits. However, drag queens or people dressed in drags are certainly more interesting to talk about. Mainly because of how much flair they have in terms of outfit and how surreal they can be... In a good way that is.

2. Ivankov from One Piece

3. Divine from Pink Flamingos

4. Feyd Rautha from Jodorowsky's Dune (Could also post the Baron Harkonnen as well)

5. RuPaul (irl)

(Couldn't find any good examples so these ones have to do)

Yes. I do really have some infatuations with women in carnival outfits or burlesque outfits. There's a lot to say from me on why I love women in carnival or burlesque outfits especially the Brazilian style type of carnival aside from me saying that their design are just enticing to me. Like clown girls, its because of how insanely creative some of their designs can be and how much flair they have due to how colorful the outfits are. It's why Brazilian carnival outfits and Burlesque outfits (or to a lesser extent, Haute Couture outfits) interests me so much. The outfit really also adds tons of colors and personality to this world due to how surreal it is.

Sauce:

1. Kazehana from Sekirei

2. Carnival from WIXOSS series

3. A Burlesque Dancer from Rokusan Angels Burlesque (Note: Didn't know if my sources are correct or not so feel free to rectify me in the comments)

4. Brazilian Artist Paolla Oliveira's Jaguar Outfit
