Tips for a disabled solo VN dev?

Hi! I'm currently developing my first game solo. The problem is, I suffer from chronic fatigue, pain, brain fog, and tremors. Does anybody have any tips on managing game creation when you have limited energy to do things each day? I don't have a deadline for the game [ it'll be done when it's done ] and it's currently at a pre development/concepting stage, for context of how far I've gotten and what pace I'll be going at.

Any fellow disabled/chronically ill VN devs giving tips would be appreciated. Thank you!

Good accessibility plugins for coding in renpy?

Hi! For some context, I am very much disabled. Physically and also potentially mentally to an extent. I have brain fog and get lost in/overwhelmed by dense visual information incredibly easily, occasionally to the point of migraines. I am developing a game that may end up being quite large in terms of code, so I'm asking if there's any tools/plugins/etc etc for Ren'Py that can help section off the code into more manageable visual "chunks" so I can program easier without potentially harming myself in the process. Thank you!

Tips on using a wheelchair?

Hi! So. I [19NB] might be needing to use a wheelchair soon. My knees and ankles are fucked for no reason whatsoever and if I walk on them too long I am in Unending Agony until I sit down and rest them, usually for 20 or 30 minutes to several hours. We don't know exactly what's causing it but it's been an issue for a few months now

So, does anybody have any like, general tips for using wheelchairs? Mainly because I have never used a wheelchair independently before. I've always been pushed by another person and I haven't even used a wheelchair outside of a hospital context until very recently, so I barely know what I'm doing other than the basic "push the wheels to make the chair move".

I don't even know what kind of wheelchair I'll be using, if I'll be renting one or using the one we already have which I don't know what kind it is. It's frustrating. But yeah, any advice is appreciated.

Would streaming for only a few hours hurt my channel?

Hi!! July [ and by extension Artfight ] is starting soon so I thought I'd make this post more because I'm curious and less because I care much about statistics. For context, I'm planning on beginning to stream daily Artfight attacks starting either the 5th or 10th of July. Would the streams only being an hour long potentially hurt my channel or would consistency make up for it?

I'm asking because due to my chronic fatigue I can struggle to VC or stream beyond an hour or two, maybe a couple of hours if I'm on caffeine or something, so I'm wondering how that would affect things or if I shouldn't worry too much about it

something malicious is brewing....

Temporary reactive images for my streaming in July! Probably gonna start on the 5th-10th , I just gotta test and set up some things prior [ like streaming my iPad to my PC ]

It's been 1 year since my chronic fatigue started and I feel like I'm faking.

I'm bad at starting posts in a Serious Way so I'll get to the point, I'm having major imposter syndrome with my chronic illness. For context, around April or March of last year, I nearly died of the flu. I was vomiting 24/7, I couldn't keep liquids [ or anything ] down and I was so dehydrated that by the time I got to the hospital I was pissing orange. It wasn't great. After that, I felt excessively tired and hungry all of the time. I completely failed school when prior I was a straight A student because I couldn't stay awake. Even when I was awake, I couldn't pay attention because I was so, so hungry. After school, I would hole up in my room and fall asleep for hours even when I get a good night's rest and not interact with anybody.

That sounds bad, so why am I feeling imposter syndrome about it? It's because I've improved slightly the year since it happened. I've been able to stay awake a bit longer, I have a bit less brain fog than before [ I was able to make myself ramen a few weeks ago and I was very proud of myself ] and my hunger has improved significantly. I feel like I'm just appropriating the idea of being chronically ill from the Real chronically ill people just because I'm improving slightly. I know it's not rational, my "naps" are still several hours, my brain fog can get so bad that I can't feed or wash myself sometimes, and I'm still constantly hungry even if a little bit. But it still feels. Wrong? To call myself chronically ill. Ig it's a bit of denial about my situation or something.

I don't even know what exact condition I have either. I heavily suspect it's CFS but until every other possible option is ruled out, I can't know. I think that probably contributes too, having a 'mystery illness' that I internally hope can just be cured.

I don't know what the point of this post is, I just needed to let off some steam ig

People I can commission for environmental concept art?

Hi all! I'm currently doing. A lot of things [ future streaming, slowly making a game, participating in Artfight etc ] and I kinda realized that I can't do everything on my own. Most of the team on my game are volunteers and the game itself that I'm developing is going to be completely free, but I am struggling so bad with environmental design that I decided that I'll likely commission somebody or do a trade for some concept art.

I'll likely pay my other team members if I can, even if it's a one time "thank-you", but that's in the future because right now I'm Broke As Shit and I need to focus my time and potentially money on actually making the game a thing for now

To be clear, I'd be unable to drop hundreds of dollars on this, and I'd only need like, one or two sketch pieces, but I'll still save up as needed. I also wouldn't be able to commission immediately as I still need to get a bit more money, but I still like to have all of my ducks lined up in a row, so to speak

If you are interested, please DM me or comment! Preferably a vgen link and/or a link to your portfolio!

Artists to commission if your avatar is non-humanoid?

Hi all! This is kind of a followup to my previous post, which is here [ https://www.reddit.com/r/PngTuber/s/WuL6hnymIG ] . For some context, my pngtubing avatar is not a human and is only vaguely humanoid/anthro. It's basically a heavily simplified cardboard box rabbit with no arms. I was wondering if you guys had any recommendations for people to potentially commission for avatars if I need to [ additional context: I suffer from chronic fatigue and may not be able to go through the hassle of drawing and rigging/setting up an avatar myself, at least not at a snail's pace. ] or just channel art in general because I like supporting other artists whenever I'm able to!

Again, I love drawing and my channel would likely be an art channel, but I suffer from a chronic medical condition that makes it incredibly difficult to pour my energy into something of this caliber. It'd be much less stressful if I just had a usable avatar right out of the gate and being able to focus on my other things, rather than having to do literally everything myself.

Additionally, I don't have the most money in the world [ literally only have like. 28 dollars to my name rn ] but I can still save up if need be.

I might make myself a temporary reactive avatar for July, as I wanna stream/make videos of me drawing Artfight attacks this year, but I would still like a more permanent avatar in the future. Thank you for understanding!

Yapping about "fantasy"/"supernatural" intersex conditions(+disabilities)

OKAY SO. disclaimer that I'm gonna mention my own characters here but PLEASE know that this isn't asking for any writing advice and is just meant to start a discussion!

So, we all know that trope of the "intersex" person with both sets of fully functional junk, right? It's a tired and harmful trope and as an intersex person I really hate it. I'm not talking about that here. I'm talking about something that resembles an irl condition more than that symptom-wise , but has a magical or supernatural cause.

The reason that I'm posting this is because I realized that one of my own characters effectively has something in between pmos and pseudocyesis [ aka false pregnancy, which isn't an intersex condition afaik but still ] that's caused by something supernatural [ in his case, being born with an eldritch parasite in his uterus that's fucking up his hormones and also a lot of other stuff but we're just focusing on the sex-based symptoms here ] .

That makes me think, would you consider something like that intersex or at the very least intersex-adjacent? Does it even matter if it's not Technically Intersex if it conveys like, The Experience of being intersex? Same with something like [random example] , say, a person who's literally made up of the parts of different people who are both male and female and have symptoms of an actual hormonal disorder because of it. Would you count that as intersex? Does it matter? Because they would be effectively born with it and it would affect them like how a real person's condition would, it just would have a completely different cause that's not natural.

This topic fascinates me because as I am intersex, I am also disabled. And this really makes me think of the "fantasy disability" discussion. It brings up a lot of the same questions, if a character Counts as disabled because they have the Experience and Symptoms of disability without having a specific, named, or even real condition [ take the countless stories that treat not having magic in a magical world as a disability, for example...even if they have varying quality, lol ] or if they just Have to have some Real Diagnosable condition in order to be Really Disabled [ which doesn't apply to a lot of disabled people irl kinda like how having a Diagnosable Intersex Condition doesn't apply to a lot of intersex people irl ]

It gets to the core of a lot of things, mainly the fact that things like sex and disability are social constructs. Not in the way that they don't exist at all, but in the way where the line is so blurry you can't definitively say that there's a difference between perisex/intersex or disabled/ablebodied that's like 1000% concrete. It's just really interesting to me!!

Apologies for the yapfest I just had to basically write an essay about this because it's been on my mind so damn much. Feel free to chime in with your thoughts, corrections, or additions!

Tips on making the tone of a story unsettling/offputting?

Hi!! For context, I'm writing a short story where a man goes on a "date" with his best friend who's body is being puppeteered by an alien parasite. The man knows that he's infected by a parasite [ and is also infected himself, but the infection failed to kill him and now the "friend" is trying to convince him to keep quiet about the whole alien parasite invasion thing via a fuckton of manipulation/gaslighting ] but still believes that his friend is "in there somewhere" and is still alive.

What I'm asking for advice/tips on is making an unsettling/offputting tone for the story/in general. This is my second time writing proper prose horror, and I don't have the best grasp on writing tone properly yet. Like, I can kinda do it, but it's not as consistent as I would like it to be. You can be specific to my premise, but I'd prefer if you were also more general so that others can use the knowledge/I can use the knowledge for more stories than Just This One Story

More gender neutral/trans inclusive term for "feminine horror"?

Hi, this is something I've been thinking about a lot. For context, the deuteragonist in my story is a trans man. However, the story deals with a lot of things that fall under "feminine horror" eg. pregnancy, dehumanization, misogyny, s/a [ think: Bloodborne or Alien or something ] etc and I was wondering: is there a more gender neutral term that encompasses all of this?

I'm not comfortable using the term because again, the affected character is a trans guy and I don't wanna imply that his experiences are just. Inherently Feminine or whatever because he happens to have a uterus and be perceived as a woman but I don't know if there's a single term that would fit properly

Also, any recommendations for media/books that cover these topics that feature trans people would also be appreciated so I know how others handle this trope , thank you!

Thoughts on this v/pngtuber design? Would this be a good first model to start with?

Hi!! Kind of a follow up to my previous post here. Showing off this design I made for a potential v/pngtuber sona to ask if this would be simple enough for a first model. For context, the design is supposed to be relatively plain because I want it to be easy to redraw and reuse as much as I need to [ I suffer from chronic fatigue and migraines so I don't usually have the energy to draw Complex Designs ] and simple enough so that if I ever want to do something like 3d model it I won't go insane and burn myself out in the process.

Does this design look like it'd succeed at being plain and simple enough? I don't care as much about recognizability but if it is recognizable that's a bonus I guess lol

Ignore how shitty the photo of the bag is lol. But anyways I’m slowl working on an itabag for my OC Chris and I was wondering if you guys had any advice/ideas for what to include? The majority of the items would have to be custom ordered since yk. He’s not a media character or anything. I currently have one keychain [ 5-7 cm I think? I’m probably misremembering though ] and a 10cm plush coming in a few months !

His story is a horror story so any recommendations for spooky items/fillers/etc to add would be appreciated !

Advice for taking commissions with chronic fatigue?

Hi! I know that this is a chronic illness subreddit and not an art subreddit, but I still thought that I'd ask here to hear from other chronically ill people, specifically people with chronic fatigue like I have.

I've [18nby] been suffering from chronic fatigue for over a year now. Last April, I got sick with flu b and nearly died. Ever since, I've been dealing with severe chronic fatigue. We still don't know what the exact cause is [ recently it was discovered that I'm slightly anemic but that wouldn't explain the illness thing so I'm not sure if it's the sole cause ]

I want to begin to take things like art commissions in order to gain some sort of financial independence, regardless of how small it is. However, due to my aforementioned symptoms, I don't know exactly how I'd manage it, and I don't wanna accidentally scam people out of their money by taking a commission and just. Never finishing it.

So that's why I'm asking here, do any of you have tips for taking commissions while struggling with this? I would really appreciate it.

eldritch god? Parasite??? Thing?? infodump??

Content warnings for: pregnancy/tokophobia , parasites/illness, cults, abuse, misogyny, and brief mentions of transphobia and child murder/infanticide

Post marked as NSFW for these trigger warnings and not because this is sexual in nature [ I am an asexual uterus haver and just find the ideas in this very disturbing/interesting because this subgenre of horror that has used these themes has always been like. Fascinating to me ] .

Also, I will be using gender-neutral language throughout this [ e.g 'person with a uterus' , 'birthing parent', etc ] as not everybody with a uterus is a woman [ which is also literally true in the story that this is for lol ] Thank you!

So, what is it that I'm talking about? Basically, it's a parasite that attaches itself to the uterus of its host and passes down to the next when the current one gives birth to a suitable replacement. It makes the host near immortal and gives them godlike realitybending ability as long as it's with them, which caused a cult to form around it and revere it as a god. Not the hosts mind you, but the parasite itself.

This parasite obviously also causes a lot of other physical symptoms, as it leeches resources off of its host, making them quite physically weak and usually anemic and causing other symptoms similar to pregnancy [ eg. morning sickness, random cravings, cramps, etc ] , just without any visual signifiers. It can also mutate its host, but this is usually temporary.

How the realitybending specifically works is that it's based on the belief/perception of the host. E.g , if the host genuinely believes that there's a lake in the middle of town, there will be one. They can't influence the minds of other people beyond making them think that the new/altered things are completely normal, however.

So for example, even if the host genuinely believes that the government is out to get them, the government wouldn't be after them as that would involve directly influencing/changing people's actions. The realitybending also only works in a specific area, the small rural Maine town of Pierwul and its immediate surrounding area.

The parasite tends to make its hosts look as "attractive" as possible within its power [ perfect skin and hair, hourglass figure, etc ] as it's basically attempting to pass itself down as quickly as possible. However, the parasite has nearly no control over the mind of the host, which is where the cult comes in.

They basically brainwash the host and make them believe that having children is necessary for society and being a good person, pressuring them heavily and even straight up abusing them. They also typically fit them into the role of a woman and a mother, since the cult's beliefs derive somewhat from Abrahamic religions [ mainly Christianity and Catholicism ] and they tend to stamp out any rebellion from that mold, especially if the host ends up being not cisgender.

After the host gives birth, it's unclear what happens to them. Whether they simply die/are killed or just become regular cult members afterwards is unknown [ although the current host has never met his parents which isn't a good sign at all ] and the offspring are thereby groomed to eventually repeat the cycle and give birth to the next host, in the hopes of one day birthing a "pure" version of their god.

This doesn't mean that the children resulting from this are treated well. Children born without uteruses, who are inviable hosts where the parasite doesn't pass down, tend to straight up be killed soon after birth. They're seen as a waste of space. Even for the new hosts that do survive, they are frequently abused and brainwashed just like their birthing parents were.

They're never given independence or an education beyond maybe middle school if they're lucky, and they tend to struggle to regulate their emotions well due to the frequent emotional and physical neglect and abuse that they face on account of technically being unable to die and always being guaranteed to grow up just fine.

[ For example, the current host managed to escape the cult, but suffers from very persistent mental illness as a result of the abuse that he was subjected to and the resulting trauma. This causes the town of Pierwul to be quite unstable due to his influence. ]

I don't know how exactly to end this other than it generally being a Fucked situation. Any critiques to improve the concept are appreciated since I'm aiming for a commentary on misogyny/how people with wombs are seen as "birthing machines" and not yk. Actual People + the visceral body horror of pregnancy in of itself since that's always been something that terrified me lol

Have a nice day!

What injuries/disabilities would you expect from surviving falling from a high place?

Whether it be a building, cliff, or bridge, what injuries/disabilities afterwards would you expect? Story is set in a semi realistic setting, if that matters

Hi all! I'm planning on making a small [ digital ] zine that's a fake travel brochure for a fictional town that has some cult and cosmic horror-y stuff going on. I say digital because I don't have a printer nor the money to pay for it to actually be printed, so it'll probably live on the Internet indefinitely. Either way, it'll be a fun little project to hopefully keep my chronic fatigue having self busy. But regardless, do you have any advice for making my first zine? Any tips would be appreciated!
